I dont know about some of your posters on this board, Shakedowns, stings, holdups, muggings, beatings...jeez, do you posters go to the same place in TJ as i do?? i am 32, short, normal looking, walk alone, day and night in zona roja, never had a problem..... I walk in dark alleyways, by cops, take wrong turns, never had any cop shake me down , or attempted mugging... I walk with confidence, speak to everyone politely, wave and say hi to everybody, beggars, sgs waiters, etc... never had a problem...
By POWERSLAVE on Monday, September 03, 2001 - 11:11 am: Edit
Superdick, a significant percentage of the people here seem to go to TIJ with the assumption that they will have problems. And so they do. I have been EVERYWHERE in Tijuana, and have NEVER been mugged or shaken down by the cops.
By Indyseattle on Monday, September 03, 2001 - 02:35 pm: Edit
Speaking just for me, I stick to the AB & CC area, and have for the last seven years, and have never had an issue. Well, one hombre thought I was too ugly for a chica once (which I was... am... err...). Just look like you know what you're doing and you'll be fine. Try and LOOK like a tourist and, well, I'll be watching this board for another victim...

I also have never been mugged or shaken down by the cops when walking, but I know people who have and they are no different than anyone else. Some people who look really vulnerable may have more problems, but for the most part I think it is just random chance, not some aura you project. If you drive in TJ and don't look Mexican and have a decent vehicle, it is just a matter of time before a cop pulls you over looking for a bribe.

i have recently witnessed a mugging across the street from bar taurnio on wednesday night around 4 am
i was real nervous becuase this is the first time seeing something like this right in front of me they didnt even think twice when they saw me
the weird thing about this was he looked like one of them wasnt dressed nice looked like a bum almost.
why not kill whitey ? why go after one of thier own ?
one guy chocked him from behind and 2 other guys went through his pants.
the place was empty and nobody was aorund the taco stand that is normally here with that big fat guy was already gone - i rushed up one block where the taxis were and hoped these guys didnt follow me - they didnt and i walked back to the border. i also had a hassle when corssing the bridge some baldheaded vatos from san deigo asked me for some money and was talking shit " lets follow him and gank this fool " but i just walked away with my car key in the middle of my fist- how can 2 things happen to me at the same time when it has never happened to me ever ?
the scariest time i have had it tj
milkman
p.s. i will still walk all over tj like i do now

That's one of the most sickening things I've ever read. Nice job tucking your tail and running away from a guy getting mugged. You are a fucking pussy to me. I'm sure the guy who got mugged appreciated your help.
I have never seen a mugging in TJ, but it has always been my policy to intervene if I do see one. Hopefully I'll be out of town on the day you need the help.

Superman;
In water rescue you never let the victim drown the rescuer.
With that said, do you think it would be worth getting injured or murdered helping someone out that's only being robbed? You sound like a big strong guy, but would it really be worth it?
Maybe he could have stuck around to assit him after the fact, but leaving was the smart thing if he couldn't defend himself.
Mexico is another country with napoleonic law. If I, being big and American, were to injurer the muggers while assisting the victim, what keeps the policia from hauling me off to jail?
I understand your point and your frustration with milkman, but every situation is different. If I get the chance to meet you, you'll know I got your back and you've got mine.

Milkman-I don't blame you for not intervening but you were only a block from the police substation on Constitution at the alley. Didn't it occur to you to go there to report what you saw?
By Milkman on Monday, September 03, 2001 - 08:32 pm: Edit
i did
i had no idea if anyone was behind me
plus the taxis were just up the road
everything happened so quickly yet in slow motion too , if you understand what i am saying
when i came to the taxis i told them
they said they would call the police
i have gotten a few good emails from other fellow mongers
thanks

Even if you don't intervene physically, you could have at least yelled out for help. The area you were in has more cops per square inch than any place I've ever been in the world!
Do I think you are a pussy? Absolutely. You were more concerned about getting the hell out of there than helping a fellow monger out of danger. To me that does not say much about you as a man.
Not only did you leave a guy to get beaten and who knows what else, by not yelling out or notifying the cops, you have left three muggers on the streets! That's three muggers that may have been apprehended if you had been a man and taken some sort of action. That's three muggers that may go after you or me in the future.
Do I care in the least that you are "disappointed" in my post? Nope. Just know that people like me have your back. Too bad we can't count on you for the same.
I'm not going to get into a pissing contest on this subject, and I've said all I'm going to say on the matter. Feel free to have the last word.

Superman, if anyone is full of shit, it is you. I do not know milkman, nor do I know his size or fighting ability. He may be in the low end on both. If so, and if he had intervened, all he would have accomplished is getting HIS ass kicked and robbed, and maybe getting the original victim even more hurt. Had it been me, I would have intervened, but I am somewhat bigger, VERY cognizant of Mexican laws, VERY capable of handling any police who show up, and VERY fluent in Spanish. If milkman were all of these, then YES I would expect him to involve himself.
REYTJ, I agree Milkman should of gone to the police substation, but, in reality, what would that have accomplished? If by some miracle the cops caught the thugs AND located the victim AND convinced milkman to take a day off work in a week or so to come back and testify, the maggots might have gotten 30 days.

C'mon guys......don't ya know by now that Supergirl and Kenny saved the civilized world from Commies and fag's and the DUI checkpoint that has no purpose? Supergirl is the typical fatguy on the internet that has to act tough to have any self-worth. I'm sure he has the same problem Clippers does where he thinks the girls are their friend and are actually in love with a wife cheating, child humiliating loser. Keep up with that pigeon spanish guys, it really does wonders to speak like a retard in two languages. Rise up Supergirl!....the hall of champions has an opening!!!
BTW, Milkman, if you had tried to do something, the police would have showed up and arrested you instead of the scum that commited the crime. Never help out in TJ, you will never win.

Superman, talk about a PUSSY, it's REAL easy to judge people regarding their reactions to a situation they have never been in before that is something out of bizarro world. While you obviously fancy yourself a bad ass, leaping into the fray against three guys with who knows HOW MANY watching or whether or not they are carrying weapons on a dark street at 4 AM is the act of having waaay more balls than brains. THAT shit can get you hurt, and if you wanna do it for someone you barely know it sounds like more of an ego thing than compassion. And your beloved policia that were crawling through the area were apparently busy looking for a guy like Milkman to roll instead of covering that inch of the Zona. Or resting up to prepare for the next day's shakedowns.
I witnessed a mugging walking up 1st street with a friend once. I did yell out and it apparently distracted the muggers enough that the guy struggled free. I wasn't about to get involved physically however. That was MY CHOICE. My friend watched for a second and ran toward the Zona when it looked like the dudes were coming our way. That was HIS choice. Milkman tried to get help. HIS CHOICE. Superman would have played Steven Seagal. But we're all pussies...
By Jarocho on Tuesday, September 04, 2001 - 11:36 am: Edit
Superwhatever,
If you ever witness a mugging done by SIX guys I'll be real surprise to see your report about it.
Maybe the rateros would run, but if they DON'T you're fuck! They want to make sure that you're not physically able to run to the policia before they're able to get away. Why do you think many victims end up unconscious on the ground? Good luck!
By Farsider on Tuesday, September 04, 2001 - 12:35 pm: Edit
This is an excellent topic for a poll. Therefore, I've created one in the Polls section.
By Redongdo on Tuesday, September 04, 2001 - 01:01 pm: Edit
Farsider,
I just saw your poll and need a little clarification. Your question states "another monger".
In Milkmans case the victim was another local, dressed and appeared just like his attackers. For all he or we knew it could have been some kind of internal dispute. In that case, no I would not have intervened outside of maybe trying to get the attention of the cops.
If it was another guy I knew from the boards of course I'd do my best to get him out of that situation.
If it was just another American who I didn't know I'd probably still help, but with a little caution as we don't really know all the circumstances.
What exactly did you have in mind when you stated "another monger"?
By Farsider on Tuesday, September 04, 2001 - 01:18 pm: Edit
Redongdo... I picked up on that point right after I posted the poll. It didn't take long for someone to call me on it.
Substitute "another individual" for "another monger" and you'll get the drift of what I was asking. I was trying to focus on the actions that one would pursue rather than on the guy being mugged. But obviously, one's actions might depend on who they were in a position to help. My bad.
The proper answer, in your case, would probably be "evaluate all the variables, and act accordingly", since the nature of the individual being mugged is one of the variables.
Sometimes, the hardest part of creating a good poll is covering all the possible scenarios.
By Erip on Tuesday, September 04, 2001 - 05:46 pm: Edit
Bottom line is as milkman said, nobody knows how they would react if they haven't already had such an experience previously. These situations lead to instant reactions, not considered analysis...no matter what you think you would do going in.
I was raised in then very dangerous NYC and was schooled to give up property to muggers in return for physical safety (NY muggers use guns instead of chokeholds, so you got a chance to surrender your property without a hand being laid on you...and that's the way it usually goes down). I bought into that program thinking I'd never put up a defense and risk my life to protect property unless I had a good idea that my safety was in question.
Turns out I was mugged once in NYC, and I was burglarized and robbed in L.A. by a guy who turned out to be none other than the serial killer Richard Ramirez..."The Night Stalker" (no joke). Completely contrary to how I had prepared myself for such situations, I fought the NYC mugger and he ran away...Ramirez I chased out of my apartment and he jumped off my balcony and gimped away...unfortunately with my wallet (which the police recovered after Ramirez was captured). Analytically, I don't believe in keeping guns for self-defense in the home, but if I had one in my night table drawer, or in actuality had I been a slight bit quicker on my feet when I went for the leg tackle from behind, the Night Stalker saga would have ended a couple of weeks sooner...damn what was the reward on THAT one?!
My response to Farsider's poll will be completely different than if I had never been victimized. But I understand these polls are pure fun, even when the subject is pure hell.
By book_guy on Tuesday, September 04, 2001 - 06:21 pm: Edit
Holy hell, you were a Ramirez victim? Wow, brushes with celebrity ...
Like you, I've been schooled to always just comply with the mugger, too ... but there are good ways to comply, and self-endangering ways to comply. Trying to be TOO docile can just be an invitation to someone else that they victimize you. All the subtle tricks of the interaction can't really adequately be described briefly on the internet. And thank goodness, I've never been in that sort of situation. I think Superman just assumed some things were one way, merely because they weren't specifically described as being the opposite, and then went off the rails from there.
Having lived in some marginally tough areas, and travelled through some real pits, I'd have to say that I have no idea how I would respond in the given situations. Basically, it depends ... it just depends ...

Bottom line is your in a foreign country dealing with a whole different set of rules. It's up to you whether you want to help or not...it's just the consequences you face by helping out. What you expect to happen by being a good samaritan, whether he be a fellow monger or not, may not end with the same results you're looking for. Your in Mexico my friends so aide with the side of caution. Have a good time but keep your guard up. You were obviously outnumbered and in a no win situation MM. You did the right thing by trying to get help.
By Daytimer on Tuesday, September 04, 2001 - 07:39 pm: Edit
I was mugged several months ago. I would never expect a bystander to take on a gang of rateros. That would be suicide.
My disppointment was when I woke up after being choked out and there were Mexicans, Americans, and cops stepping over me as if I was one of those hopeless drunks you always see lying on the sidewalks.
I needed money for the trolley and asked several Americans for help before someone helped me.
So the lesson learned is, don't count on anyone in TJ, you are own your own.
By POWERSLAVE on Tuesday, September 04, 2001 - 08:19 pm: Edit
daytimer, oldtimers on this board are TOO familiar with the "Ive been mugged and need money" or the "Ive just been let out of the TJ jail and need money" scams perpetrated by several Americans in Tijuana. No one gave you any money because no believed you. Sad, in a way...
By Superman on Tuesday, September 04, 2001 - 11:16 pm: Edit
Perhaps I was too hard on Milkman. I now realize I am the pussy because I would help out a mugging victim instead of running away! Milk did the right thing.
Upon further review ...
... I see it was not a monger getting mugged, but a local. I'm sure that's a fact. I mean, it's not dark at 4 a.m. or anything, and all mongers are middle aged white guys, not Mexican locals.
... I see the revised edition of this story conveniently has the police being notified via cab drivers so the protagonist is not so much of a pussy after all.
... I see there are now six muggers instead of just three, because we all know every Mexican sitting on a car is a mugger.
After thinking it over, why would I help any of you? I don't know you, and it's doubtful I'll ever need your help. It's unlikely I'll ever get mugged when there are an abundance of smaller, older guys to rob.
I'm actually starting to think what easy marks some of you guys would be. How hard would it be for me to hang out by the pedestrian bridge and take cash off you guys? There are lots of good hiding places. Hell, I could probably finance my evening of frivolity by robbing just one or two of you. None of you are armed, you all have at least $300 on you in various pockets and shoes and money belts, most of you are apparently frightened by confrontation ... I know Lakers walks in and out by himself ... Milkman too ... hmmm ... I'm kidding of course. Unless I'm particularly broke one night ...
All kidding aside, the bottom line is I would help anyone I saw getting mugged. This does not necessarily mean I would physically jump into a battle. I am not stupid and I don't like getting my ass kicked. I would, of course, evaluate the situation, but I would always take some sort of action, be it yelling, calling for the police, fighting, or what have you. I realize all men are not created equal, but men don't tuck tail and run away.
I'm curious where you pacifists who wouldn't get involved draw the line. Obviously we see there is a distinction between a local Mexican and a "fellow monger." Would you act differently if it were a woman getting mugged? How about a child? How about a friend of yours?

It really pains me to admit this, but he raised a good point.
By 694me on Wednesday, September 05, 2001 - 10:23 am: Edit
I was mugged on 123 once at about 4.30 pm. Three guys grabbed me, one at the neck one at the ankles and the third at my hip pocket. I got some warning so the choke hold was not effective. The point of this story was an elderly lady with a walking stick came over and started hitting the rateros who then let me go. They got $4 and the old lady refused $10.
If I see anybody being attacked and I have a walking stick I will help.
By Erip on Wednesday, September 05, 2001 - 10:43 am: Edit
Great story...you had a frail old lady watching your back! How about official TJHombre walking sticks?

Hippie and Superman,
Re: "Obviously we see there is a distinction between a local Mexican and a "fellow monger."
While Superman's intentions are admirable I don't share Hippies pain. We have to put this in perspective. The distinction doesn't come from some kind of class dicrimination, the point isn't that a "fellow monger" is somehow better or more deserving of help than a local. The point is they are much different situations.
In the case of a local, keep in mind a lot of disputes are internal...meaning maybe they knew each other and had a money issue. Bad dope deal or something. You jump in to rescue the poor guy and as you're messing up one of the attackers the victim attacks you! Unusual? Not at all, this way the victim get's to redeem himself as being a "righteous" guy for helping his attacker from you. So he's ok again and your lying on the sidewalk...hopefully not with a knife wound or something from the person you "rescued".
As one of the girls told me one time, "You (meaning all Americans, not just me)don't live here, you don't know". It might be fun to chest thump and John Wayne yourself into a situation but you accomplish next to nothing. You succeed in helping the guy and he gets the shit beat out of him worse next time when you're not around. You fail and there are two of you fubar.
What you do is up to you, but yes, there is a distinction between a local and a "fellow monger". We don't live there, we don't know.
By Hippie on Wednesday, September 05, 2001 - 11:52 am: Edit
A very good point Redongdo, but I do not believe that most people who had the "monger vs. local" reaction stopped to reason it out like that. It was just a gut reaction. I don't really mean to criticize anyone, and I could be way off base. I am just saying it is a good point for thought.
By Sakebomb on Wednesday, September 05, 2001 - 02:09 pm: Edit

hi sakebomb
thanks for you post but me and superman go to TJ for different reasons.
i go mostly to the clubs such as Pulgas , Fiesta , levayas , and i am always on the hunt to find new clubs where chicas are available. ( non puta)
i go to the zona to meet up with the person or persons i am going to these clubs with , then after the night is over i might go back for some fun .
from reading his posts hit hits the strip clubs and street girls - which there is nothing wrong with that.
i always have said everyone has there reason to to to TJ and there own fetishes.
wether it is going to adelita bar or CC club or the other zona bars .
doing up street girls
doing up tv 's or stereos
or partying on rev
going to massage parlors ect...
i will never knock anyone for their likes or dislikes becuase everyone is different.
as long as you are having fun - thats the key !!
for me - hang out with the milkman if you want to meet hot chicas that want to party and have a good time.
do i meet a hot chica every night to have sex with me --- no -
but that doesnt mean its a bad night-
i do meet lots of nice people mostly locals that i have fun with .
and make new friends all the time - so next time
i see them - they invite me to sit with them or go to a new club with them or introduce me to their chica friends ect...
if you have read any of my old posts this is what i have been doing for a while now.
you can consider me like a Latina search party.
I spend the night searching for hot latina chics for me and my friends and have a great time doing so.
i do hang out with 3 different new friends i have met on this and another site and thats what we do
feel free to email me if you have any questions about these clubs
take care and thanks for reading my post

Damn who was the little old lady? I want to make sure she's around me all the time. Is she available for body guard duties?
I've met Milkman, he sure as hell did the right thing by getting out of there.
Not to sound callous or any thing but unless I know you and like you, I'm probably not going to go out of my way to help you in any situation, in Mexico, the U.S. or any other country in the world. I am NOT superman and the world is not mine to save.
Not because I'm worried about saving my own ass, but when do you draw the line? When does it stop? If you help one person getting mugged, do you then have to help everyone getting mugged? Why don't you take it a step further and help the bums on the street by giving them money? Aren't they getting mugged by the system? Why don't you save your buddies/coworkers/neighbors/etc. wife from him beating her? Why don't you stop and help everyone you see stranded on the side of the road? Why not help out every cancer victim? Do you stop and help every accident victim you see? Do you go to live on the beaches of the South East U.S. and save all the shark attack victims? Who do you decide to help and not to help? What is your level of involvement?
The world has victims, that's one thing I've learned no matter what I do or what I say that won't change. It maybe harsh, it maybe cruel but tell that to the shark, he's just feeding.
I'll lay my life down for my friends and family. And if I've met you and like you, maybe you're an aquaintance of mine and we get along, I'd help you out. But if I see some stranger who I don't know and don't give a shit about being victimized, the world is not mine to save.
As far as it being a local Mexican or as Milkman puts it "one of them" (geeeze) I don't give rats ass if we share citzenship or not, the color of your skin or your country of origin doesn't play any signifcant role in my participation at all. It has to do with my level of involvement with you.
And for all of you people who are going to say, well I hope you never find your self getting mugged or in a time of need and blah blah blah, I haven't been a victim yet and my friends and family as well as people who have taken oaths to do so have always come to my rescue when I needed it. For my ass IS my own to save.

Superman: 2 things. You were not there, so how the hell can you criticize? Milkman had maybe 10 seconds to visualize what was happening, assimilate it, and (possibly) react. Maybe he IS a pussy. Maybe he SHOULD have done something. Who knows. We were not there. I know that I am not a pussy, yet several years back some fucker on Blvd Agua Caliente got carjacked right under my nose, and by the time I realized what was happening and began to react (to help the guy), he was laying on the street and his car was speeding away. Am I a pussy because I did not prevent the carjacking. I certainly felt like shit afterward as I reviewed the "would of/should ofs" in my head. Yet this stuff often just happens to fast for anyone to react.
Second, I live in Tijuana, so I do not walk the bridge at night, as it is out of my way. And I privately complained to Striking Viking once for (what i perceived to be) threats (he was rightly fed up with some asshole). So maybe I am a hippocrite. But, if you want to "hang out by the bridge and take cash off mongers" you are welcome to try. I will happily alter my routine to suit you.

i call it mickey mouse spanish or happy meal spanish.
to be honest it should be better
but i get away with it.
the girls think it is cute when i try to talk spanish.
if i knew 100 percent spanish , i would hook all of my monger buddies up with no problem
i love the thrill of trying to hook up with some of these girls with the little spanish i know.
and to all that have emailed me and posted supporting my mugging post i thank you.
again i hope nobody has to go through what i did.
some of my friends that live it tj told me that i did the right thing and if i tried to help i most likely would have been fucked up and since i do not speak fluent spanish - the cops might have arrested me too.
they have told me many things that they have witnessed where fights have broken out in clubs , streets and even the fair in tj and the cops would see it all and arrest everyone invloved even the inocent party.
again play it safe guys and have fun

Milkman, I also believe you did the right thing for the situation. Not to change the subject, but I have a post to insert in here somewhere....
The other day, I was detained while walking in the Zone well after Midnight.
I was walking down the alley at around 4AM heading towards Ninos Heros and I turned left to walk up the hill on the East side of Ninos Heros. There were three cops about 30 ft. up the sidewalk who seemed to be harassing a local and I mistakenly didn't give it a second thought. In hindsight, maybe they were waiting for me since I have regularly walked that path late at night and have found those street girls on that stretch, at that time, to be the most dishonest. Again, this was around 4AM and I had already walked around this block once about 30 minutes earlier with one failed negotiation at this same spot where I had told the girl I might return "in a minute" (she wouldn't agree to "un mamada")
First I was asked where I was from and then for my ID. I was searched, the first time immediately and then again a few minutes later which included thoroughly checking my socks and my baseball cap. I had money in three different pants pockets and with my hands up on the wall, I was rubber-necking to keep a very careful watch on everything taken out of my pockets and made sure my cash and my car key were going into my right hand, as conveyed by body language (I was basically reaching for it as "politely" as possible and received no resistance in doing so). They were checking everything very carefully and from my previous experience, I was watching THEM very carefully.
Exactly like in my previous experience about two years ago, a plain clothed "translator" suddenly appeared on cue. (How efficient!!)
In one of my pockets was a tiny piece of cellophane that earlier had a quarter piece of Viagra tablet in it. I should have disarded it. They asked me about it. I told them the truth because there was a powdery film on it, and what do you know; now I had a real problem; admitted Viagra usage.
According to the "plain clothed translator", who was now claiming to be the officer in charge, I was in big trouble if I didn't have a prescription with me. I did not. I was now told I was going to jail and bad things would probably happen to me in that jail. But, I could pay a fine...two Jacksons, the two they had clearly noted when my first money pocket was emptied; the bigger denomination pocket.
I protested that there was not a crime in admitting to having consumed Viagra and was told by the translator/officer that the cellophane would be analyzed in the laboratory and I had one last chance to pay the $40 which should easily
be $100 he said. Otherwise, translator chief was going to turn me over to the other officers.
I have been through this once. But you know, I was actually some degree of scared anyways. When your on a dark, somewhat isolated stretch of sidewalk at 4AM with no one around but three cops, plus the plain clothed scum, it's a little different than sitting in your own living room with a keyboard in your lap.
I don't really know exactly how bad these guys can be, or how far they may be willing to go, and I may not be seeing my living room for this night, who knows. I'm not a total chingon in these situations.
So I did have some concern, FOR SURE!
In a moment of wimpness or caution, I don't know which, I decided to offer a firm $20 for my immediate freedom with no intention of increasing that offer. I was again reminded by the spokesperson of how bad is the situation of a gringo in the TJ jail, and that I would be there for six months. (I really do look stupid.)
I looked at him without a word and he said "OK, don't say I didn't give you a chance, I'm placing you under arrest." He then proceeded to read me my rights US style (hahahahaha) and the cuffs were put on me.
I showed no reaction to this, and was ready to play it out. Being faced up against the wall, I'm waiting for what's next. But it was only about 10 seconds before the cuffs were now being clicked off.
I'm told a car is being called and in a minute a police car pulls up with one officer in it. Seems like a higher rank officer. "Hiram" was embroidered on his uniform. He did not seem to be a hard core crook and I spoke with him in English. He listened, and he told me that it was a very small matter and maybe a small fine to have Viagra without the paperwork (I didn't even have V). He then asked me to turn around and return to dealing with whichever officer who was asking for the earlier fine.
When I turned around, the "translator", who was the only negotiater, was nowhere to be found. He disappeared as quickly as he appeared. Only two of the original three uniformed officers were still hanging. At this point, "Hiram" seemed vague about what was next. He seemed to be saying "OK!", while nodding his head positively.
Getting impatient, I asked, "so can I go now?". I got a vague nod. I asked again to be sure. Got a "yes", and turned to leave. After two steps, he asked, "where are you going?". I said, "I'm going home". He asked, "do you have a car?".
"Yes".
"Where is it?"
"It's not in Mexico."
And apparently that was it. I was told to have that prescription next time. End of incident. I walked back into the alley, disappeared into Hong Kong and then down to the other end of the alley for a streetgirl near the substation before heading out.
This was completely my fault. I walked right into it.
Both of my "shake downs" thus far have occured late night-early morning just outside the Alley-Coahilla block in darker areas like the stretch of sidewalk mentioned and also up on First St. in that dark street girl area.
Not the areas to be when the cops are cruisin' around at 4AM; too far from better lighting, traffic and the sub-station.
Common sense more or less.

I suspect you are similar to me. If somebody messes with one of your friends, they are messing with you as well. With my friends, if one of us fights, all of us fight.

Of course if you don't have time to react and intervene it's a different situation. There are still things that can be done such as help the victim or notify the police or whatever.
Even though you must have missed the part of my post where I said I was kidding, if you think you can't be taken down, it's time to wake up. One of the rules I personally live by: "there is always someone bigger, faster, and stronger than me." Same for you and everyone else. You don't know me and I don't know you, so it's pointless for you to challenge me and act like an internet tough guy.

You handled that perfect. It sounds like you stayed calm and stuck to your guns.
I can't(apparently) stress this enough for some people. If you've done nothing wrong, don't pay a bribe.
Remember, the higher up in Mexico are taking this very seriously. If any cop in caught trying to take bribes, they WILL be fired. The last thing they want is some gringo in the station complaining to the judge that the arresting officer wanted $40 to let them go.
Just say "NO" to bribes.

Eunich: Being stubborn with crooked cops works. Eventually they will just get sick of you and look elsewhere for fools. Incidently, having a V tab on you is no big shit. If a cop wants to take you to the Juez Calificador (they can NOT take you straigt to jail, you MUST see a magistrate first) by all means go. The most you will get is a warning to have the prescription next time.
Superman: I would wonder how long you have been mongering in Mexico. You do not sound like you have a clue...

Eunuch, well done. If it happens again, I bet you will not even break down and offer the $20.

In regards to helping people or not helping people:
Sveral years ago, in the downtown area of a large city in the USA, I saw a girl running across a parking lot screaming for help. It was about midnight. I pulled into the parking lot and asked her what was wrong. She pointed at a couple of cars and people in the middle of the lot. She said that the guy over there was going to kill her friend. I told her to wait there, and drove at high speed towards them. As I got close, the guy pushed the girl away, directly in front of my car. I told her to get in. Instead she just stood there looking at me, incidently blocking me from moving forward. The man moved toward my window, which I rolled up. He turned and yelled "Kill the bastard" toward another guy in his vehicle. Since the girl was obviously not going to get in, I threw the car in reverse. Before I could back up my driver's side window was shot out. Since the other window was rolled down, the bullet went right through, but my face got pretty cut up by the shower of glass. I then got the hell out of there, and was relieved not to hear any more shots as I took off. I found a cop, who called for backup before going over there with me following. We arrived about 10 minutes later, to find everyone gone, except for a homeless guy who was bleeding and unconscious on the ground, and another homeless man watching over him. It seems that as they were leaving, the guy who had been beating the girl stopped and pistol whipped this guy for no reason other than wanting someone to take his anger out on. The homeless guys, whom I had not even spotted earlier, had seen everything that happened. Since the guy had been yelling at the top of his lungs, he had heard most of it as well. It turns out that the men were mid-level drug dealers who had fronted coke to the girls (spoiled little rich kid types, from the look of them and their BMW) who were lower level dealers, and the girls had snorted up all the profits. They wanted to fuck the guys in return for more drugs, but the dealers wanted their money. The EMT's arrived, cleaned about a dozen pieces of glass out of my face, and took the homeless guy to the hospital.
I am only relating this story to point out that looks can be deceiving, and an apparent victim may be just as guilty as their attacker. I would still help out a woman in distress, but would be much more hesitant to get involved to stop a man getting mugged unless I was really sure that was exactly what was going down. Is it worth risking your health/life to help an innocent stranger, especially if you think more than just his money is at risk? IMO, yes. Is it still worth it if it is just one scumbag attacking another one? IMO, no.

"Three years. I'm completely clued in."
HA! HA! HA! Thanks for the laugh!
Anybody who thinks they're completely "clued in" about La Zona, is obviously clueless.
Those that think they're clued in, aren't.
Those that know they're not, are.

Let me join Rickfeliz......Hahahahahahahahahahaha!!!
3 friggin years???....you have NO IDEA what your doing. God, that explains so much of your bad attitude and seriously bad information about what to do and how to act in one of the most dangerous areas in the world (as far as walking around at night goes)!.....This part of TJ changes so much: new girls, new waiters, new managers, new clubs, new bad guys = new rules!!......there is just no way to get a SOP for this area in 3 years! The rules are always changing and then you throw into the mix the police/military having to deal with arragant Americans like Supergirl and it's a new experience every time this dummy crosses the border.

Superman: "and act like an internet tough guy"
Are you that naive or ignorant (or wanna-be tough) to realize that this is exactly how you act? Posts about violence, grudge-fucking chicas, and (jokingly) mugging mongers aren't tempered by your one post where you seemingly give away a wealth of dollar bills to the TJ street urchins. For someone who lurks in the shadows and brags as much as you do...you try too hard to "act" tough.

Senor Feliz sez...
"Those that think they're clued in, aren't.
Those that know they're not, are."
At last, one quote we can agree on...
The hard part to live and believe it, not just say it.

"It ain't so much the things you don't know that get you in trouble. It's the things you know that just ain't so."
-- Artimus Ward
I'm not referring to anyone in particular, it just seemed like an approprite quote.
