Guadalajara, Mexican restaurant in Zona Rio, next to Baby Rock, opposite corner of El Zaguan restaurant. Big location, nice mexican decor, clean bathroom. Good mexican food not as classy as mentioned El Zaguan. More crowded by locals, nice to see pretty latinas who are not hookers. Affordable price, appetizer and entree should run you about $15. Tried the tortilla soup and red snapper, good meal. Thumbs up.

They also feature Huitlacoche quesadillas (corn smut - an ethnic food) which I enjoyed but you probably wouldn't.

I have seen the corn fungus sold at that neat market almost on 1st and Ninos Heroes. The big pieces look sort of like my balls when they are really "blue". Blue black, kind of lumpy, and almost bursting.

Mix them together with a fresh piece of grilled elote covered with mayo and .........

OK, I'll shut up.

Senor Athos...thanks for the bringing up the location. Great place with GREAT food!!! Had enough mariscos for the week so tried the "consome" (rice & strips of white-meat chicken soup), filet mignon, fruit salad, and sizzling fajita plate of "....Argentina". Lunch for three w/ 2 margaritas, 2 sprites, and giant ice cream in sweet/cinamon tostada shell dessert came out to be 42 bones. For those who drives, free valet parking.

Senor Pauncho...what other ethnic food do you recom? I love authentic ethnic food!!! The best exquisite order I had was "Camarones Aguachile" (raw peeled & cleaned giant shrimp in spicy lemon/vinegar juice with chopped peper, cucumber, and red onion)...yum..yum...thanks in advance.

Sakebomb; I just love good "lengua ranchera" (beef tongue - ranch style), but it's hard to find. Sometimes I go to "Loncheria Amigo" in the mercado on Ave Ninos Heroes between 1st & 2nd on the west side. This mercado is mostly restaurants (many) and flower shops. The waitresses must be on commission because they chase you down like a pack of wolves. 20 pesos (10 for the waitress, and 5 each for the cook and the tortilla maker) is big enough tip to have the waitresses fighting over you (much cheaper than the admission price to mud wrestling) the next time you come in. Also at Casa del Mole Poblano (which see) they serve lengua in crema de cilantro (not the slightest bit hot).

I am looking for places that serve reasonably priced lengua ranchera..... anyone..?

Sr.Pauncho...thanks for the recom of "lengua ranchera", I'll try it when I see it on the menu - (and extra picoso as you recom). But I don't think I'll try it at Loncheria Amigo. Isn't that location pretty spooky? I'm a brave man, but I usually go eating w/ chicks. I passed by that area and it was filled w/ banditos and TVs. I hope "lengua ranchera" would give me the "energy" like the cocktail combo of 1/2 patademula (sp?) and 1/2 al meja...yum yum... Man, this stuff is more powerful than any vitamins!!!

The "Mercado Municipal (antigua)" - which includes many reataurantes is just filled with mexicans. No gringos - almost no chicanos (they are foreigners there, too) I wasn't looking for TVs - but I saw business men, families, ......
Of course this was usually around 11 am weekends.

GDL is now reopened under a different name (forgot). I tried it last week, but the food wasn't as good as Senior Frogs or Molcajetes and they served watered down Tequilla (the kiss of death for and place outside ZN or Revo, IMHO).
