This is the one on E Street. How does this place compare in quality and value to the Motel 6 and Best Western down the street?

Farsider:

The rooms here have two things I really like: a microwave and a safe...I am pretty sure that the Motel 6 does not have either of these items, but don't quote me...The Best Western looks nicer, IMHO, but I never stayed there...

Fairly decent continental breakfast, with cold cereal and milk being one of the options...

I haven't stayed there, tho, since like November 2000...In those days the cost was $45 for a single...

They have remodeled the rooms.. I stay there now and then.. Rooms Sun-Thurs are $52, more on weekends.. Have found coupons in those freebie motel magazines to save a few bucks..

One plus is Black Angus is next door and El Torito just across the freeway..

Down side is there is very poor exterior lighting and it just kind of feels like the kind of atmoshere where rateros lurk, lol..

Thanks YB and AG for the info. I've stayed at the Motel 6 (okay for the money, but spartan in a typical 6 fashion) and the Best Western (I don't recommend it, the room was dirty and the bathroom was infested with moths). I think this time I'll try the Days Inn, and will report back.

I like having a safe, especially since the Zona lifestyle requires having a lot of cash on hand.

I'll be there on a Sunday-Tuesday, so $52 really isn't much more than the Motel 6.

hey marco. Thats San Diego in the summertime guy. I think thats actually pretty cheap. Winter time that will be cut in 1/2. A little advice if I may. Theres a budget inn and a motel six one exit up from the border off I 5. wkends are usually more then during the wk anywhere from 50-60dls. Ive stayed at both during the wk between 35 and 40dls.

You can still get a room Sun-Thurs at Travelodge San Ysidro, walking distance to the border for around $40. They now have an honest staff, no more rip off card scans like several years ago.

They fill up on weekends but no problem Sun-Thurs.

The big plus to Days Inn Chula Vista is that it is only a block and half to the E Street Trolley Station. I left my car at the DI, walked over to the station, immediately caught a trolley (twice), and was in Adelitas within 45 minutes (with a cab ride from border). I especially appreciated that on Friday evening when traffic was a madhouse in San Ysidro.

In addition to the Black Angus next door, there's a very good place for breakfast or lunch, Aunt Emma's, across the street. Very busy place with mostly locals eating there.

A Taco Bell and a Denny's are also across the street. And McDonald's is on the other side of the Black Angus.

The San Diego seafood chain Anthony's has a restaurant to the west on Bayfront about three-four blocks from the Days Inn. I had a late lunch there Thursday -- good clam chowder, clams and pasta -- for $16.00 total with tip.

Don't get me wrong. This is NOT the nicest Days Inn I've ever stayed in. It is serviceable but in a very good location. I will stay there again because of the location.

"Anthony's has a restaurant to the west on Bayfront about three-four blocks from the Days Inn"

Just 2 blocks South of Anthony's the other side of the Goodnight Inn is El Torito. Great Tecate Amber draughts and food.

La Quinta Grill is a nice Mexican restaurant about two blocks east of the Days Inn, just before Broadway. It's on the same side of the street as DI ... and across the street from Wendy's.

They serve food until 11pm Sunday through Wednesday, and until midnite Thurs., Fri., and Sat. I had the two chicken enchiladas, rice and beans plate. It was very good. With a Tecate in the bottle and a tip, it cost me about $16.00.

They have live music Weds. thru Sat. nights. I was there on a Weds. at about 10pm, and it was fairly busy. Didn't stick my head in the bar, but did see a couple good looking gals heading to the restroom.

I will go back again. Wish I had as nice and as good a Mexican restaurant where I live!
