It is the newest hotel in the ZN. It opened at the beginning of Sep. It is on Revolucion across from La Tropa. It has the same ownership as the Leyva.

I took my favorita there. My favorita says that it is named after the owner of the Leyva. I recognized the desk clerk from the Leyva. A single bed is 330 pesos. Also, the bell boy insisted on carrying up my bag to the room. I tipped him a buck. The desk clerk recognized my favorita and sent her up to my room.

The room was very nicely furnished and large. It even had a kitchenette (sink, range, refrig. but no microwave). It had a ceiling fan, but no AC. All the room switches were next to the bed. There were two bottles of Sparklettes water in the room. I assume they were free.

The only cons were the noise from La Tropa across the street; no carpeting; and some of the furniture was used and chipped.

I had tried checking in on Labor Day weekend, but it was sold out. Single beds were 380 pesos.

I will be definately be going back!

Great information, thanks. Does it have parking?

By Poppabear on Saturday, September 17, 2005 - 04:28 pm:  Edit

Yes. It is under the hotel.

They have eliminated the 330 peso week day rate for single bed. Rate is 385 pesos all days of the week.
There is a special rate of 5 nights for the cost of three.

Two Thumbz Up on this hotel! Thought I was getting ripped off when we checked in room 505 (double) for 3 days. Then I see a fellow monger, and say "hey am I getting ripped off here, it's $135 or so for 3 days," he politly looked at the posted sign and read off the prices . Man I suck! I did not see that their prices are clearly written on the check-in counter along with Peso/USD rates. Hahaha. I am a parranoid Cornhusker... Anyway, nice room, excellent staff service, TV okay beds okay - only problems were:

1) I brushed my teeth with sink water and got immediatly sick (Pepto & Gatorade got me ok in 1.5 hrs).

2) There was a CRACK PIPE in the sink's cabinate! Damn

Other than that, for the $$ it was kewl. Kinda noisy, but that's not the hotels problem.

This Place does look nice. It has caught my eye when I took a taxi down to the zona a while back. Nice new building, well dressed staff but I don't like the area its in. Whenever I walk from the border I stay on the more populated streets and tend to stay away from that corner. A cab driver once told me a yr or two back it was going to be a puta bar on the first level and hotel upstairs. I guess they changed their minds. Thanks for the great reporting.

stayed here Friday night and the bed was GOOD, the room was clean, and with the new 3am curfew I was able to get right to sleep.

The room was $44 and $3 for the key deposit.

I know these have been comfortable nights, but any sign of HEAT in the rooms for the cold nights ahead?

TV?

Last winter I stayed in HDS for a week around Thanksgiving, and a cold snap hit. I had a few space heaters and brought two in because the double rooms at the end of the North wing are pretty large. I used one heater in the main room and the other in the roomy (for LZ) bathroom. At one point with the TV and lights on I ran both heaters at the same time and threw the circuit to my room.

Maintenance came up and reset the breaker switch, which was in an unlocked fuse box in the exterior hallway very close to the entrance to my room.

That week I wound up tripping the switch two more times, but reset the breaker switch myself less than a minute into each ocurrance.

Yes TV, no heat.

Still the best hotel in the Zona.

How much are room rates per night these days?
Also do they still have the 5 night-pay only 3 night special still?
Also, is it possible to get a room here w/o RSVP and is it easy to deal with the employees if you dont speak english?

I believe they offer a pay 5 nights, get two free. I stayed recnetly but I had a big double room(the only one left that night) and I think I paid about $50. Someone else can give current prices for the regular rooms.

I spent one night at the Hacienda de Santiago on Tuesday. Very big rooms compared to other Zona hotels, very clean, full kitchen, and great water pressure. My only bitches were the noise from la Tropa and the relatively small beds.

I went in on Tuesday and the place was practically empty. I got a room for $41 plus a $3 key deposit. I thought the $41 was for just one person, and I asked the attendant how much it was if I brought in a "guest", which he promptly replied, "$41 is for two people, if you want to bring a girl in, no problem." Wonderful I thought. In retrospect, I should have checked the room out before I paid. Fortunately, I wasn't truly disappointed. In comparison, I think its about as good as a Red Roof Inn, but the kitchen really impressed me. Here's a few shots:
bathroom

I brought a chica in from Adelitas, the front desk guy barely gave me a nod. All in all a very fun night. We were pretty beat after a couple of hours, and started watching Saw III on HBO in the room's 19" TV. Walked my chica back to AB for a cab, and had a bacon wrapped hot dog. Didn't really get to sleep because of the noise outside, I think next time I'm there, I'll try to get a room that isn't facing Art. 123, if they have them.

As I said, a pretty good hotel, at a very convenient location. There was a couple of weirdos in the alley next to the hotel late at night, but this is the Zona after all. The bed I would say is a double, and I was hoping for more of a Queen sized bed. No air-conditioning doesn't really bother me, especially at night, but it would have been a plus. The fridge is great if you're going to stay a few days. I must add too that the view of TJ from out the window adds some ambiance.

The alley next door is famous for drug sales...the police are in and out of their often during the day. This hotel has been a preferred spot for mongers for a few years now.

Never heard anyone mention the noise from La Tropa before, but the emegency vehicles and morning vendors can be annoying.
