There's no real danger going down there as long as you keep your wits about you. Speaking a little Spanish helps but is definitely not necessary. I have walked back and forth to these clubs but I don't recommend it on a first time. Spend the $5 each way for a cab.

I have found it fairly safe to walk around Revolucion and the Zona even at nights. Just stay in well lit areas with plenty of people. Be aware of your surroundings. I wouldn't walk back to the border at night though. The walk back is fairly deserted and would be easy for thieves to hide. $5 + $1 tip is well worth after a tiring night of booze and women.

I walk all the time at all hours. Back to the border a 3:00am is not a problem for me. In fact it is my usual MO. I have never been robbed. The cops scare me more than the criminals. It's not completely safe but I have lived in much more dangerous neighborhoods in the US when I was younger. It depends who you are too though. I am aware of my surroundings, who's behind me, if there is unusual tension, if I am walking into a situation where I would be an easy target. It comes natural to me because of places I have lived and places I have been. I have been down there though with people that where obviously oblivious to what was going on around them. Could have an entire gang of rateros walking two steps behind them and never notice a thing.

Then again I figure my ultimate fate will be to disappear into some jungle in some third world country somewhere never to be seen again. People have told me I take unnecessary risks.

I always walk going in (over the bridge)...usually before 10p. On the way back, cab always.

I cab it both ways out of complete laziness when I don't have a "pick me up at the sports book" arrangement.

Of course the doc says I should exercise more, OK, I'll walk to and from the whorebars.

It's a good exercise plan.

As I usually trolley it to the border, I walk in to the zona about 85% of the time...usually depends on the temperature as the walk CAN take the crease out of good clothes. The other 15% is usually if I'm staying overnight and then I'll cab it to the Pueblo Amigo and then cab it from there to the zona or Revo.

If I'm not staying overnight, I always cab it out of the zona more because of a time issue as I always stay later then I plan. I may cab it from the PA to the border but I have also walked it a few times for the exercise.

I am not trying to be argumentative, but just curious as to why you would take a cab to or from the border to Hotel Pueblo Amigo?

It is 2-3 blocks and a five-minute walk.

Here in Thailand you can get a ride on the back of a motorscooter from some dude that looks like he has been smoking yaba for 10 baht. It's way cool.

Not that I would partake in something as sinful as yaba, but is it easy to get and how risky if you got caught with it?
