WestFargo brought up "The Long Bar" in another thread. When did this bar go away? I'm 42, and have been going down there since 1975 - but I don't really remember this bar. I've got a theory where it used to be...
Down in the basement bar Zarozagopan(or whatever the fuck it is called) on Constitution&Calle 123, they've got an old photo of The Long Bar. I've looked and looked at that picture, and I'm now convinced from the shape of the building(and the Hotel alongside it) that it has now been converted into the Diamante bar and a bunch of other dive bars right next to it. Am I right?

It used to be on revolucion on the west side of the street. I don't remember where exactly, but I guess about 1 block south of the Hard Rock Cafe on the opposite side of the street.

Adelito,
I remember a long bar vaguely from the sixties in about the area you describe. I have been told by older timers than me that what I probably saw was the shortened long bar. These old timers tell me that the bar was first shortened then done away with.

The last time I went to the place was about 14 or 15 years ago and the bar was pretty long. I remember we used to go in there and get very large bottles of Corona Familiar for pretty cheap. I stopped going to Tijuana about 14 years ago and only started going again about 2 years ago, so I don't know when they closed the place.

Adelito;
One block south of Hard Rock Cafe, and on the West side of the street is exactly where I was describing.
I looked closer at that buiding, while it has the right shape, in general(and shows the right inclination of the street on the side), there are some art-deco support pillars missing from what is present in the photo - however, it is highly likely that these were decorative only, and probably were removed over time.
You know, when you say "it was in this general area, but I don't exactly remember" - these is the same story I've always heard from everyone.

The Long Bar is now called the "Aloha Bar" it had been around since the 20's. It sits right next to the Kentucky Fried Chicken. I think it closed down in 85. Lots of Bars went out of business or changed their names after Cardenas let the pesos crash in 83 and 84.
Nice long bar on the left hand side and dance floor in the middle. It could have been the "Peanuts and Beer" of TJ.
Does anybody remember the Boganvilla restarnant? It was were the Planet Hollywood is now. Lots of nice waitresses just waiting to get fucked.
The Diamonte Bar has been there since 1955, the same owner still "Rents" it.
In back of the Museum on 1st there was a little movie theature. Now there's dentists offices. Do you remember the "Cross Estrallia" bus station. It was across the street from the Museum. Right on the corner. There were 3 bars in back of it. One was the "Perla Blanca", Meti La Pata" and the other was a shit hole. They tore it down in 88 and built some slum houses. Also, on Choalilla and 5 de mayo there where a few nice bars too. They toor those down and put slums in there too.
All the way up tell the late 80's condoms were optional in the zona. I remember in 83 I fucked about 100 gals. The average price was 50 pesos or about $4, 12pesos for the room about $1 normaly 30 minutes. The girls would get in the room with me and ask if I had a condom. If I said yes. They would say, it I wanted to cum in her I would have to stop and put it on. Other wise I would have to pull it out and cum on her stumic. In 1987 all the gals made it manditory to use condoms. It was like it was overnight too. Even my regulars would say, "Are you a fag?" I would say "No!" then they would say "Good! Fags have AIDS!"
AIDS really fucked up the zona. Most of the gals would French kiss, fuck bear back. In the AB bar almost all the gals were Bare Back. You paid more you get more. Not any more! I come from the old school, you guys bragging about how good she was. They don't know what good it. Roger and I think the Romans had it good. Big orgies with young virgins. Now that what I call a party!!!!!!
Also, the zona is a lot safer now then it was years ago. In the early 90's it was so bad you couldn't walk on the sideswalks at all. And if you got mugged, you'd have to pay a bribe for the police to help you.

You know, come to think of it, I went down to TJ with another Riverside County friend about five years back. While he was getting the upholstery done on his vehicle, we went and bought Cuban cigars, went to AB, and then he stuck his head in Aloha bar and asked if that used to be The Long Bar. They said yes, but I always figured they were just saying that so we would buy a beer in there.

Diego,
WOW! They told you the truth, the Mexicans have memories longer then elephents. But they only remember what they choose to remember. They've stiffed Roger about 4 years ago for 200 pesos and Roger and I went back to the Aloha almost every day for 3 weeks and the manager just got so tired of us complaining, he gave Roger is change. 172 pesos. If that were in the US Roger would have gotten his change back in a second the waiter would have been fired and we would have come back again and again but instead I told everybody and their business shrank. Not by much but enough to equal a few thousand over the past 4 years. Beleive me, I play hard ball just like them. When in Rome do as the Romans do!

Say, TJHombre, could you be so kind as to move this thread under the newly created "TJ History" subsection(in parallel with the new "5y10" thread)?
This should help to reduce some clutter.
