Help, I've been trying to call mi amiga on her cell phone and I'm not sure if its going through. I'm getting a message that sort of sounds like the phone is not on or out of the service range.
The way she wrote it down was
(0166) xxx-xxx
Ive been dialing 011-52-66-xxx-xxx

is this right?
Thanks

Yes, that is right. Right now a lot of customers have their service shut, because the telephone company collects money, if you lack payment, your service gets cut. Also some chicas avoid switching their cell phones on, ion mx the receiving party pays for the incomming call! And it is more expensive than in the US. Just keep, trying, and trying...

By POWERSLAVE on Tuesday, April 24, 2001 - 07:32 pm:  Edit

Actually, in Mexico the receiving party does NOT pay for the incoming call, UNLESS the call is from out of the country. All the new cell phones have caller ID, and a lot of the chicas decline to answer calls they know they will have to pay for. To call a cell phone while you are in Tijuana, dial 044-6-xxx-xxxx. You will be billed 4 pesos or 50 cents a minute from a public phone. (Your chica will be billed nothing)

Additionally, your chica probably has a phone that uses a TELCEL card. Find out if this is true. If it is you can buy her a card for her phone. Nice gift. You can get get them in increments of 100 pesoes. If you know her well you can get a 400 peso one and it values as a 500 peso one.

It a brand new phone, looked like a sprint flip phone. Dont know what service she has. I've been tryin gfor the last two weeks. So either she ran out of time, or she never has it on. She also gave me another number (018) xxx-xxxx. Where the hell does that one go to?

By Gitano on Wednesday, April 25, 2001 - 06:43 pm:  Edit

Assuming that the phone is off, batteries have run down, or the card does not have sufficient value you should get the "el número de circuito marco no está disponible .... llamar más tarde ..." message. That other number you listed is a mystery to me.

What I have done, with only one chica that I trusted a lot, is buy her about 200 pesos of public phone calling cards and give her my cell phone number. It's less frustrating. And if she doesn't call, great, you have a shopping expedition in ZN ahead of you.

It's nice having a special friend or two, but it ain't worth driving yourself nuts with it. Put some of the responsibility on her to make arrangements. If she doesn't do it, fine. You are better off finding out quickly.

Gitano...you hit it right on the head..."Put some responsibility on her..." If you don't speak Spanish well, calling to MX is a pain in the behind even when the call went through. One needs to realize that MOST of these girls typical routine in the day are: going upstairs avg 3-4 times/weekday (6+ times/weekend), standing around when they aren't up, drinking craps that made their stomach sick, listening to the same fricking songs every night, eating the same food at Monte Carlo restaurant, going home at 4-6am in the morning, loading up with either mortar or kiki, sleeping until 2pm, getting up, showering and eating, hitting the beauty salon to get their hair and nails done, and the routine starts over. So with that, her time is pretty much occupied unless she knows you well or likes you a lot.

Governor, if that the case, ask her for her home phone if she lives off AB/CC, or call the hotel and ask them to transfer your call to her room. I didn't mean to rain on your parade, but what I said are from personal experience after seriously dating 3 HC cutie and spending the night at 10+ other chicks houses. Gov, just keep trying and good luck, but like Gitano have said..."it ain't worth driving yourself nuts with it".

Hey Git...do you ever get "all circuit are busy, please try your call later"? Frick man...we can communicate with a spaceship from Mars, but can't even get connected to TJ. I'm glad the world hasn't changed that much because the oldest profession is still around....Bitching!!!

Gitano.. Ya thats the message I'm getting, it also something like or the phone is out of the service range. Well atleast I'm getting through. Found out she did go home on vacation, and I do have her number at home but its that other number that goes like this (018) xxx-xxxx how the hell do I dial that one.

thanks

8 is the city code from Monterey. If you're calling from TJ, dial it like that, if you're calling from up here, dial 011-52-8-xxx-xxxx.

Also, Telcel offers Voicemail on there prepaid phones now, it costs 10 pesos + IVA to setup, I just set mine up the other day. Get her to set that up and you won't have to deal with the "not available or out of service area" messages.

What3ver,

Thanks a lot. I had been wondeing what it would take to get her v-mail.

Yeah Sakebomb,

I have gotten the all circuits busy message. I believe that means that the US lines are tied up. That sometimes happens on Sunday afternoon.

Now if I could only learn to follow my own advice.

SV, the way that this one Chica's cell works is that when she recieves a call she pays 1 Peso a minute and when she makes an out-going call the price varies as to where she is calling, (ie, long distance, cell, or local). On her service she does not get any free air-time, but pays for every minute that she uses.

SV, everyone who I have known with a TJ-area cell phone (all prepaid) were charged 4 or 4.5 pesos per minute to receive calls from the U.S. This includes Telcel, Baja Cellular, and I think also Pegaso. You pay only your carrier's long distance rate.

By POWERSLAVE on Monday, June 25, 2001 - 08:52 pm:  Edit

Pegaso charges HALF the going rate (which varies from 3 to 5 pesos a minute, depending on plan) to receive calls from outside of the calling area.

Powerslave, is this only on their contract plans? I know that those are always a better deal than the prepaid ones.

By POWERSLAVE on Monday, June 25, 2001 - 09:06 pm:  Edit

If you use a prepaid plan without an agreement, it costs 5 pesos a minute. If you commit to spend at least 200 a month, it drops to 4 a minute. If you commit to 300 a month, it drops to 3 a minute. If, in any month you do not input enough credit, your price reverts to 5 a minute. Also, if you have a 4 or 3 plan, you get free voice mail.

I recently gave a cell phone to my novia in TJ. My own plan is with Cingular Wireless(pretty poor coverage in TJ, but not bad at her house, and OK outside on Coahuila). I had an extra phone laying around without a SIM chip. I bought a new one at a PCS store for $25 which incl. activation and $50 credit for prepaid(20 cents per minute for mobile to mobile). This was sort of a test and it has worked well, but we have already used up most of the airtime. Now what I intend to do is add her phone to my plan with unlimited mobile to mobile and it will only cost $16.99 per month and we can call each other as much as we want for free. If anybody intends on only calling one person down there, this is the way to go...Verizon has the same plan.
