This was fun. I'm thinkin' that the next Monger game show needs to be one of the following:
"Queer Factor" (hosted by Milky)
"Rubble Jeapordy" (hosted by the Unabomber)
"What's my Lite?" (hosted by Westfargo)
"Win Ben Storkbroker's Money." (hosted by Ben)
"Towling for Dollars" (hosted by the AB Toallacheros)
By the way...
Bon Vvnt got ripped off on number 15.
Mr. Bill got ripped off on number 44.
Lots of ties (if you look at the actual time posted).

I would have one if Hombre didnt kick me off 3 different times.
I guess he wanted to be fair to the other losers.
This was realy a lot of fun we need to do this again.
Thanks

This reads funny. I wasn't there, and my name was still mentioned. Thanks, Porker (who has been bitter since I joked about his looks).

Excellent stuff! And the transcript was hilarious. I'm sorry I missed the actual event. It would have been so much fun to participate. I know I would have gotten at least one right (Dulce-CC).
Questions: Was there a limit on the number of players? Did the speed of a player's computer or his geographical location give him any advantage? Did the answers have to be given in the form of a question?
Will there be another contest? Can a non-player submit questions for future contests?
A Congratulations to YB and Superman kind of guy,

Just read the transcript and laughed my ass off. Great stuff! Just wish I could have been there.

"Did the speed of a player's computer or his geographical location give him any advantage?"
Oh, c'mon. How cynical. We need to give YB (first) and Milkman (third) credit for their mental acumen.
LOL

I'll join the chorus. Very amusing read - great job by all.

Interesting to note the top three finishers are three of the younger members of the board ... poor old geezers just can't get those brains/fingers working. LOL.

Dogster:
Asking if the speed of a player's computer or his geographical location had an effect on the outcome is NOT being cynical. If there was no such advantage, full kudos belongs to YB and Superman who have already proven to be very knowledgeable at other times. So I do NOT doubt their intellect. I raise the issue only in order to establish if the competition occurred on a level playing field, in which case I may decide to represent the "old geezers" contingent in the next competition.
One other point I missed: did any of the competitors have a computer with voice recognition?

OoTie:
Yes, the speed of a users Internet connection DOES have an effect.
I was on a very slow connection at the time, and often the question and 2 or 3 answers would scroll up non-stop at the same time.
As to YB, he got there late. He and Porker operate on Mexico time, so they showed up fashionably late. Initially they were told that disquallified them. An exception was made, and they were both allowed to play.
Personally I don't see why being late is a problem - it means you have missed chances to answer questions. It's not like it's going to hurt OTHER players.
As to your other questions, no limit on numbers that I know of, and yes, it had to be a question, but spelling and punctuation didn't count.
Amd yes, at least a few players pre-typed some of their answer ("What is ")
By Blazers on Wednesday, November 06, 2002 - 12:04 pm: Edit |
More important was how fast people typed. Some of the members type with blazing speed. I would hit the first key seconds after the question and the answer was already up most of the time. Some of the questions were tough but the questions were funny and creative.

Being the competitor that I am, such a non-level playing field would limit me to a "having fun" status.
A Wondering if there's any way to make it a level playing field kind of guy,

Good stuff! Thanks for the laugh. When's the next one? I'd like to participate, although I too have a slow dialup connection and might be at a disadvantage...
By Superman on Wednesday, November 06, 2002 - 06:05 pm: Edit |
I was on dialup, and I was downloading mp3's from WinMX while I was playing ... I did not notice any slowdown whatsoever. Digichat seems to go fast no matter what else I'm doing on the net.
Milky seems to have issues with his connection though, or he would have taken second place.
YB showed up at like question 25 and answered 10 or 11 correctly from that point, so he deserved to win no matter what time he got there.

It might also be the speed of the PC. All I know is that the java chat is REALLY slow, and seems to scroll in bursts - nothing then all of a sudden several messages.
The computer I was on for that chat is REALLY bad - my main PC crashed, and I was using an old PC. (Pentium 166, Win95, 16MB RAM).
By book_guy on Thursday, November 07, 2002 - 06:59 pm: Edit |
I had a laugh-riot. I did see that some internet connections benefited, particularly now that the time of posting is verified by the logs. I also noted that LOCATION of internet connection could be a benefit ... the closer you were to TJH's chat server the better.
But hey, that's part of the game, and anyway I had not a clue for most of the answers in the first place. In the true spirit of the competition, I suggest the winners ante some of their pots back into the next pot, or save it for beers for fellow CH mongers at Adelita's or elsewhere.
By sampson on Friday, November 08, 2002 - 04:14 pm: Edit |
i think the person with the right answer should have been able to choose the category from which the questin would come from ie. jeopardy. anyway i had lots of fun even though my fingers would not cooperate. thanks to all..
