Jarocho was kind enough to post the link to the trolley website on the threaded board.I transferred it to this board for easy access.I'll also post some schedules and pertinent info to save some people a little time.
http://www.tmisnet.com/~strads/trolley/index.html
When arriving to Lindbergh field(San Diego airport)go out to the curb and look for the city bus stop benches. The bus will say "Airport flyer" Route 992.Take this to the America Plaza Trolley Station. Fare is $2.00 and get a transfer because it works for your ticket on the trolley. Service every 15 minutes, 7 days a week from 5 AM (SMTWTFS) to 1:30 AM (MTWTF) / 1:15 AM (SS)on route 992.
At the American plaza get off the bus and cross the street.Look for the trolley tracks between the buildings and find the sign for the Blue line trolley to San Yisidro. When a trolley pulls up labeled the Blue line to San Yisidro get on it and relax.Take it all the way to the end of the line which is near the border.
When you come back from Mexico heading to the airport after you clear customs the door you leave is near the entrance to the trolley area.To be in this area you must buy a ticket from the several machines available there. These machines can be confusing the first time but you want to buy the Quick tripper fare for the amount of two dollars.Save this ticket because it will also get you back on the airport flyer bus to continue to the airport which Provides curbside service to Terminal 1, Terminal 2, and the Commuter Terminal.

Here is the official link for the SD Trolley.

And there are links to Greyhound, the Coaster and all local public transit bus lines.
The first linked seemed bad here is a good one:

How long does it take to get from the start of the trolley down to the boarder?

If you are talking from downtown by the train station, I would guess maybe 30 minutes.
Takes approximately 45 minutes from Civic Center:

I took it a couple of years ago. I did it on a Saturday afternoon. I found a parking spot 3rd Ave a couple blocks north of C Street. Came back about midnight.
Overall, I think it took about the same time as finding a place in one of the parking lots at the border. However, I think my car was safer on 3rd Ave than the parking lots.
Ride down was nice, and the ride back was ok.
I have done this a few times.
If you are spending the night in TJ, I would not recommend leaving your car on 3rd Ave over night.
MM
Hope this helps.
Since Google is on course for total world domination, Google Maps of course is awesome for trolley schedules as well. Especially if you have an Android phone. Just do from: to: directions and then click the train button.
I imagine you do not really mean the "start of the trolley down to the border" http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=from:+Santee+CA+to:+San+Ysidro+border+San+Diego+CA&sll=32.750034,-117.210388&sspn=0.154769,0.32238&dirflg=r&ttype=dep&date=09%2F08%2F10&time=8:54am&noexp=0&noal=0&sort=&ie=UTF8&z=11&start=0

Is Shorts still alive? That guy was a Zona fixture if there ever was one!

Porker, Shorts is still planted in the Leyva. Time stands still.
Any of you saavy trolley guys know of an "In N Out" burger location within a block or two of ANY San Diego trolley station, preferably the blue line heading south? Thanks...
Right next to E Street Trolley in Chula Vista. Thanks...
"In N Out" hamburgers are delicious, and their fries are some of the best. BTY, they also sell some pretty cool T -shirts, depending on whats offered at the time as they change annually. Check out their website: http://www.in-n-out.com/

CK, I've never had an In N Out burger in my life. I've been wanting to try them for years. I think I first heard about them on this board.
I have had plenty of Whataburgers and I want to see how they stack up against each other.
In N Out recently opened up a restaurant in Frisco, TX (Dallas suburb). He's a link to a good writeup.
