Does anybody have recommendations for sending an old laptop computer from USA to Mindanoa.

The damn thing might fetch $180 on eBay, but the only shipping options I can find cost about that much and customs would make matters worse.

Perhaps the best bet is to take it on my next trip as carry on baggage.

That would be my ONLY recommendation. If you ship it, customs will charge the recipient an excise tax or some such.

Check out www.johnnyair.com . It has a ocean freight option which seems to be cheap since you can pack a standard-sized box as heavy as you can. But, it could take months to deliver.

Or, ask a Filipino living in your community.
