3G Speeds in Philippines on Smart

If anyone is curious, here is a screenshot of my 3G speed test on Smart.

Have not tried tethering as the hotel has free internet.

You can get unlimited data on Smart for 7 days for 300 pisos by texting UNLI 300 to 211.

You could also do UNLI 1200 for one month of data for 1200 pisos.

Supposedly their HSDPA 3.5G network is 2 to 5 mbps maximum. Regular 3G is 384K max.

Xen,
Where are you in the Philippines? Those numbers look pretty good. I have heard that Smart works ok in Manila but not so well in AC.

How do you pay once you txt?

I would assume you have to have sufficient funds loaded when you text.

KM is correct. It just takes it from the available load on your SIM. If you don't have load, it won't register you. You also get a confirmation text after you register.

About 2 in the morning last night when the network was hardly in use, I did the test again and got 2 mbps down.

H1, these tests are from AC. SpeedTest.net has different servers to test from. The PLDT in Makati has been the best so far. There are others in Metro Manila that I barely get 300 or 400K on.

I continue to get good 3G and HSDPA speeds on Smart. During my last trip I actually dumped the hotel Wifi and just setup an access point on my Android phone and used that. It was very good.

Here are a couple of speed tests from a few weeks ago.

The unli 300 to 211 promotion is still valid for 7 days of unlimited data.

The one thing that does suck is anytime you go inside a building (especially a bar) you practically lose all signal. In the hotel, I can keep the phone by a window and get five bars.

But there are no good options inside the bar.
