Cops blamed for thriving flesh trade
QUEZON CITY (ABS-CBN) - In the wake of the controversy stirred by the sexually explicit film Live Show, police are now being blamed for the burgeoning flesh trade in some areas in Metro Manila.
This developed as Central Police District (CPD) Station 10 commander Supt. Juan Adan on Friday ordered the relief of one of his men, Senior Police Officer 1 Joyful Fulgencio, allegedly for taking bribes from pimps and streetwalkers.
Adan said he recommended the immediate transfer of Fulgencio to Mindanao aside from the filing of administrative charges.
Adan stressed CPD has not given up on its campaign against prostitution, particularly along Quezon Avenue, where he learned Fulgencio was operating a protection racket for prostitutes.
Admitting that the police crackdown may not be enough, Adan called on public vigilance against the world's oldest profession.
Citing economic difficulties, most of the women claimed they were forced to turn to prostitution, charging customers P300 to P500 [What a deal! That's only $7-$11 US]. Half of their earnings go to their pimp.
This is aside from a portion some corrupt policemen take from the women periodically.
The same story goes for the "working women" in Cubao and Pasay City, where prostitutes resort to various gimmicks to carry on their illicit trade.
In Cubao, prostitutes disguise themselves as cigarette vendors while in Pasay, they go around in pedicabs with their pimps as drivers.

I've got a buddy who has been in Angeles City for about 2 months now. He said there are more and more GIs showing up everyday. He said that right now is not a very good time to go to AC. The GIs are barfining most of the nicest girls early in the evenings. It's become harder to get hotel reservations and rumor has it most bars may raise their barfines to 1500 Pesos. The Peso is at 49.5 to the USD so that will make an all-night session $30. Thailand is starting to look better every day.
Most of the GIs are in town for the joint US and PI exercises and will be gone by the end of the Month (May, 2002) but there's a rumor that many will be permanently stationed at Clark. It will be interesting to see how the addition of several permanent GIs to the town will effect the pricing structure and attitudes of the locals... (prog)

Right now there are no GIs in town, however, after the Secretary of State visited the PI there were some talks about more joint exercises to begin in October. A few of my friends in the military don't believe it's going to happen because the Philippine Defense Forces have been kicking the shit out of the Abu Sayeff since early June. If you have the luxury to decide when to go you might want to wait at least another month. By then the weather will be much better (about 15 degrees cooler and a lot less rain)... prog
