If you stay at the Majestic Suites make sure to get a room toward the back of the hotel, away from Sukhumvit. My room was next to the street and was a bit noisy, but I did not fly to Bangkok to have a quiet night's sleep. The Majestic Suites is a very nice new hotel close to Nana Plaza. I like the Royal Asia Lodge since it's not directly on Sukhumvit, and I always enjoy the free 24 hour tuk-tuk to and from the hotel.

You brave the tuk-tuk's? Compared to a tuk-tuk, a room next to the street's nothing!

If you want to check'em out, go to:

I thought it was a helluva lot better than Nana hotel. The prices are very good too.
Just give us a trip report when you come back. I'm going in May-June... can't wait!

I stayed at the Majestic Suites (Superior) for 10 days on my last visit to Thailand. May-June of 2001.
Plusses:
1) Close to NEP, CEP the Skytrain and Foodland.
2) No hassle policy with your guests.
3) Well maintained.
4) Free AFB if you can get up early enough.
5) Friendly and helpful staff. Rooms usually made up very promptly (1-2 hrs).
6) In room safes with electronic key.
Minuses:
1) Very small rooms for the price.
2) Somewhat noisy, both room to room and in general. I stayed on the top (8th) floor on the Suk side of the building and the noise level from the street was minimal. Having the air-con running was usually enough to mask any noise. I felt bad on a couple of nights for whomever was next door when I had some extremely vocal girls.
3) No in-room coffee maker. (well it's important to me)
4) Not really a suite as there is no separate bedroom.

I can only add that yes, the walls are thin, but you can get great staff service (7.5) and a nice, big tub along with the standard king bed and HBO for 1400B. In downtown BKK, across the street but without audible evidence of Nana, this was my best option earlier this week. When you reserve, negotiate breakfast for two and be sure you get a double room. No problem with ladies. Probably a 3-star.

I've met Bob and Aman who are responsible for running the place. One I think is the General Manager, the other I'm not sure of. They are both Indian and are completely fluent in English. Most of the hotel staff at most hotels are only partially fluent, so I would consider them an asset if you need anything as they can converse with you much better than the general staff you'll find in most hotels.
Majestic Suites also has hair-dryers in the room, so if you make reservations here, you don't need to bring your own.
Majestic Suites is located on Sukhumvit near Soi 4 and Nana Plaza. If your taxi driver doesn't understand Majestic Suites, just tell him to take you to Nana Plaza and have him drop you off at the AM/PM on the corner of Soi 4 and Sukhumvit. The route you take to get there will most likely be heading south on Soi 3. You'll see a busy street ahead of you with AM/PM across the street on the right hand corner. Behind AM/PM will be a very tall white building with the words Nana Hotel near the top.
From AM/PM, simply head East (to your left if you're facing AM/PM and the Nana Hotel) and Majestic Suites will be about 4 storefronts down on your right.
By the way, there was a black and brown dog out front our entire trip. We should have got a picture of the hotel and the dog, I don't think we did.

I will tell you ONE MORE!
(inside joke, you might get it later on in my trip report, but it'll probably only be funny for Xen and I)
Majestic Suites is a SMALL hotel which fills up rather quickly. I highly recommend a reservation if you are planning to stay here.
By Scooter on Friday, December 07, 2001 - 05:22 am: Edit |
This hotel came highly recommended to me so on my last trip I stayed there 5 nights... (on business otherwise I would have been in Pattaya!) it exceeded all expectations and it will be my hotel of choice for now on when staying in BKK...

I concur with Scooter. This hotel is your best value for location, quality, and price. During my last stay in BKK I stayed at the Majestic Suites. I got one of the larger rooms that overlooked Nana Plaza. You just couldn't beat the view. The restaurant has a nice selection of Thai and Western dishes at a reasonable price. The free breakfast is a little small but who cares? ...(prog)

I agree about the breakfast at Majestic ... I could eat two. In general I found the food there at the bottom of the elevator to be well prepared with quality ingredients. First place you can find coffee in the morning. Also, the bartender during the morning shift is not only the coffee maker but a fountain of information about Bangkok.
Let's talk about food! Where are some other good places to eat with in a few blocks of the Majestic? (got to keep your strength up, you know)
By Billcink on Friday, December 07, 2001 - 06:08 pm: Edit |
Mcdijj, For Farang food right across the street is a Tony Roma's.Thai food right down the street.Good cheap eats at the Foodland lunch counter open 24 hours around the corner. Also the Starbucks across the steet has good coffee. There is also an expensive steak resturant in the J.W.Marriot going the other way up the street.I agree with everyone about the Majestic. All things considered you get the best value for your money. The Grand President on Soi 11 is a little bit better place, but too far down the Soi for me.

Have you ever ate any meals at the restaurant that has a the green canvas awnings next to the Landmark? Inside the atrium is a little coffee cart with several shops, but next to that is a terrific restaurant that I enjoyed many, many times. I can't for the life of me remember the name, but I remember it was in that same complex next to the highrise elevator that shoots you up to the fancy restaurant at the top of the building.
From the Majestic it was maybe 20-30 yards away and always great service and excellent food.

Guys,
If you think the Majestic is good, then you will think that The Omni is a Palace!
Majestic really sucks compared to Omni. The only thing with Omni is that it is a 8 minute walk to NEP.
Next time try the Omni...
By Blazers on Tuesday, June 18, 2002 - 06:27 pm: Edit |
I agree. Majestic Suites rooms are tiny.
By Progman on Tuesday, June 18, 2002 - 08:29 pm: Edit |
The suites may be timy but I have to say that when I checked into my suite, on my second trip, and looked out my window that overlooked Nana Plaza I realized this place was perfect (IMHO)... prog

I get a very cheap kick out of the term "Suite" used to describe the Majestic Suites. Now, unless the term "Suite" has been redefined to mean that only the bath is separate from the bedroom, I think there's quite a liberty taken with the term. The Nana was my choice for breakfast buffet since MS has only an abbreviated AFB (less the Full), but the Marriott will see me this next trip to empty their buffet. However, Nana doesn't have big tubs (I demand them) and the Omni is a bit too highly priced for me. So, for what it's worth, the MS will do just fine for me. Unless you guys can steer me away, I'll take the MS again on this trip.

Room rates vary from 900-1440 Baht per night, depending upon the negotiating skills of the guest and season of booking. The food in the smallish restaurant is adequate although better fare is available close by including FoodLand which is less than one block from your door and open 24hrs. The Majestic Tailor shop next door offers the best prices on quality clothing and the best service.

Rooms are very small, but also very clean. Prime location. King-size bed, TV, mini-bar, room-safe, bathroom with tub and shower. If location isn't an issue than try to get Grand President for the same amount or Grand President for a few bucks more.

LOL. Always liked the dog. It is funny they called it suites when they aren't suites. Small but nice rooms, nicer than Nana. Nana has some suites for 1900 bt that are nicer than their regular room.

I always stayed in the Nana suites. Not too bad but as others have intimated the aircon got two settings-- off and fuckin freezin. The thermostats work as well as the Thai PD without a bribe.
By Dick Johnson on Sunday, July 27, 2003 - 02:58 pm: Edit |
The suites are considerably bigger and nicer then the regular rooms.
If it's too cold just cuddle with your honey
On the other hand, KM, I'm a little surpised that an experienced hobbyist like yourself still stayed at Nana. I believe you will enjoy your stay at apts.

I actually like the Nana just for the people watching if nothing else. An endless parade of characters straight out of a Star Wars cantina. Never stayed there with a steady honey-- only when mongering. As you know it is tough enough to get some Thai poo ying out of their towels. If the room is cold they are gonna be totally wrapped up in blankets, towels ,and whatever else they can get on. Makes sexual acrobatics near impossible. Turn off Air con and they are fine, but you are sweating like Sadaam must be right about now.
Been to Omni several times-- Sommerset seems even better. I'll let ya know.

I like to stay at Nana. It's inexpensive, there's a 24 hr restaurant downstairs, there's a great freelancer bar downstairs, the rooms are nice enough for me, and I'm not concerned about impressing the girls.
Also, some of the hotels have auto-power shutoff(Majestic is one of them I believe), so you can't charge batteries while you are out of the room.
By Dick Johnson on Wednesday, July 30, 2003 - 02:21 am: Edit |
Actually Nana is a pretty good place and you can't beat the convenience. I stayed there one night when my hotel reservations were screwed up and the next morning at the free breakfast two waitresses came to talk to me and gave me their phone numbers. Did you guys experience that?

What would be the difference in accomodations between a single superior room and a double superior room at the Majestic Suites? Thanks!
By Mcdijj on Tuesday, December 14, 2004 - 10:38 pm: Edit |
Solid,
The double is just two regular rooms with a door in between.

Thanks Mcdijj...

I hear nothing but good things about the majestic. It's the only decently priced, nice hotel right next to NEP. Nana Hotel is a dump. Majestic is nice.

Kman, you've never heard of Dynasty Inn? I wish the rest of the world was like you.
By Whoretester on Thursday, December 16, 2004 - 10:36 pm: Edit |
The Majestic is nice but SMALL. If you don't need room to stretch, it is fine. The breakfast in the lobby was so light, I needed to go to the Nana for their buffet after eating the Majestic's breakfast. Agreed that the rooms are leaps and bounds ahead of Nana for decor and cleanliness. Also, the tub is much nicer than Nana's. But my best time in Thailand was spent inside the Nana (MS was sold out). The memory and tastes linger...
By Kmanrox420 on Friday, December 17, 2004 - 12:28 pm: Edit |
porker yes i've heard of the dynasty inn.. i've never stayed there though... i know the nana hotel is a dirthole... i've only stayed at president park, centerpointe, conrad, hyatt... now i've lived here in thailand for 2.25 years in an apartment in sukhumvit..
By Whoretester on Friday, December 17, 2004 - 10:05 pm: Edit |
Kmanrox420,
I briefly considered an expat move there, but could not make it happen financially. I figured out, with my habits and lifestyle, I would need $2k a month net to live and play. I could not launch an Internet business that would generate that much money reliably. So, I still pay my dues sitting on a plane for 24 hours.
By Javaj on Tuesday, November 15, 2005 - 12:48 am: Edit |
I was pleasantly suprised at this place. 1900B for a walk-in rate, wireless access and rooms were well maintained. The coffee shop is decent and the breakfast voucher gets you a decent, though light breakfast.
All in all, I liked the vibe in this place. They know the clientel and made the security check for the ladies quick and easy.
No balcolny or rooftop area for a cigar smoker nor is there a pool.
If you don't need any extra frills, then this is a great option. The location is tough to beat. I got a back deluxe room facing Nana plaza.
