Yeah, that's the related discussion. I've only ever sent money (usually gambling winnings) out of gratitude for times past, not that that makes it "right."

A lonely guy sending money to cling to a "relationship" is just setting himself up for disappointment, especially if planning to return during high season when Thailand is crawling with men.

it is actually much easier than anything mentioned here. you simply put your money in the shredder then flush it down the toilet. that will acheive the same reward ultimately.

Redbus, it's not going to hold your place in line. Lots of Euro-dudes have sent money only to find the girl unreachable upon returning to LOS. (I bet Esarn girls actually brag amongst themselves about burning guys like that.) Expecting something in return is sad.

some of the posters might be a little harsh with the wording but the advice is sound. i've spent alot of time in thailand over the last few years, bangkok, phuket, and pattaya. in general, the girls are all the same. they think we are ATM's and will take advantage of us. it might not seem so in the beginning but eventually the truth comes out.

if you feel like you have to send money, keep in mind how much it costs for a thai girl to live. if they have a bar job (no sex $), they probably make around 10,000thb/mo (salary and drink money). many ladies live on this, usually sharing a room that costs 3,000 to 6,000thb depending on location (bkk, phuket, pattaya). if they are making money from sex, then they don't need any more money to live. they'll talk about all the money they have to send home to take care the family. that is most likely where your money goes - not to her but to the family.

i've met girls with real jobs (nurses, computer techs) and they pull in less than 20,000thb. but they are likely married or have a boyfriend that has a job (isn't worthless). two thais making 20,000thb/mo each is pretty good but they are probably making a car payment of 10,000thb or more a month. plus they might have a kid or two. but they feel good. they have money.

so it isn't a good idea to send 30,000thb/mo to a bar girl when she can live okay on her salary and drink money. if you want to help her improve her standard of living, 10,000thb/mo would be more than sufficient. i don't know how much you are sending or planning to send. but i hope this helps in the event that you aren't well versed on the cost of living for the thai ladies and the sources and uses of the cash they collect.

The whole concept of gratitude is lost on you guys. I just gave some $$ to my alma mater and I feel good about it --not because I expect anything from them in the future. Just for letting me in. Ditto for the girls.

you mentioned gambling winnings so i figured the amount might be something more than a few hundred usd. sending money every month is not uncommon for those who send it. so that is where i came up with the wording on the topic. i did say i had no idea how much you were sending. just putting those numbers out there as they are not uncommon amounts for those who send.

i'm fairly generous with $$ so we may be on the same page in that department. as an example, a few years ago i spent some time in phuket and two of the girls i hung out with alot got in a car accident. my friend's thai girl was driving. fortunately i left the night spot (safari) earlier via tuk tuk. they drove off the road into the jungle on their way home. the two girls in the back w/o seat belts got the worst of it. i gave my preferred girl 10,000thb to assist with lost wages while she was recovering. i also spent about 2,000thb on a used phone for the other girl (hers was lost in the accident). i was leaving phuket just a few days after the accident so there was no way to get any type of 'repayment' (via cash or services). so i knew it was money down the drain as i was handing it out. could have just left town.
