I usually stay at the Westin or JW when in BKK on short stays, but decided to try out the Aloft brand, which is ~1/2 the price.
Hotel is located on soi 11 just up from the President Palace on the opposite side of the road. True to the brand, it was pretty hip and the common areas were fantastic and good fun. The room was similar to aloft in the US - modern, comfortable, and very functional. No problem bringing guests back anytime. Vs my favorite hotel in BKK (JW), the rooms are nearly as posh and there's no concierge level of us plat members (so no free food all day). On the other hand as a plat starwood member, they gave me 2 free dinner coupons for the hotel rest. Can't comment on the food as they went unused (I eat a strict diet of street food).
I stayed 3 nights on points and cash. Cost me about 20bucks a night + not many starwood points (I've got enough to last me many trips).
