This is one of the more expensive hotels. It has its plusses and minuses, with more negatives than I would expect for the price. I stayed there for almost two weeks, having left Pacific Breeze because they couldn't get me a decent Wi-Fi connection.
The front desk staff is great. Very responsive, generally excellent. Housecleaning was less so—they left empty glasses and plates, toothbrush wrappers, cloth napkin from room service. But there were always fresh towels when requested. Security was spotty; I had several girls come to my room unannounced, and several leave without the desk calling me for permission.
There are only two elevators in this 14-story building, and one was out of service for weeks—weeks! There is no service elevator, so the one elevator was often in use for ferrying linens from the basement, etc., which increased the wait. They eventually got it fixed just before I left.
There was no desk in the room—and I had one level up from the minimum room. This was not a big room or a particularly comfortable one. In the rooftop restaurant, there were no tables for dining—only coffee tables with couches. But the bed was really comfortable, with a nice comforter as a blanket.
The bathroom was nice, with some countertop area for my toilet kit. The shower enclosure had a rainfall (overhead) head as well as a showerhead on a hose, with a high-end swinging glass door (improperly installed so it didn’t keep the water in). It included a steam generator, but mine did not work properly, despite repeated repair requests. I think they just don’t know that it should produce a LOT of steam). Although a sign said you might have to wait up to 10 minutes for hot water, I didn’t have to wait more than a minute. And the water was really hot, not just warm.
I had trouble with the air conditioning. Most of this may have been with the thermostat, an incredibly poor choice of model. It was way too complicated and hard to read, and it wasn’t obvious how to use it or even adjust the temperature. The air was always too cold.
The Wi-Fi was reasonably strong, but every time I left the building and returned, I had to log my phone into the network. Same with my computer every time it went to sleep and woke up. The network wasn’t protected, either.
The doorman was on duty part of the time, and opened the door for you just some of the time.
The pool was situated on the rooftop, surrounded by high walls which pretty much blocked out the sun for most of the day from the entire pool area. And the pool was colder than it could have been as a result.
All in all, the place was less than OK for the price. I’ll find another hotel next time

I agree with most of the comments above.
I stayed there at 80/day...would not pay higher price.
Front desk, housecleaning: great and attentive
Elevators working during my stay
Room: Not tiny but not huge either. I like the set up. Did not try the steamer. LOVE the bed and pillows
AC: no issues
Wifi: worked fine for me.
Doorman: as above
Pool: smallish, ok. Was there only night time.
Food: did not sample
I am staying there again in an upcoming trip...mostly because of the bed. and I am getting it for 80/day again..too much...but I will test it one more time

Thanks, Hunterman, for the review. As I mentioned on the Central Park thread, CP seemed nicer, mentioned about the Penthouse elevator snafu, and the unique CR layout -- IMO CP's bathrooms kick ass and worth every bit of the premium over budget rooms.

Having watched both Penthouse and Central Park being built, I would nominate Penthouse most likely to collapse into a pile of rubble during a minor earthquake or gusty wind storm.

Unfortunately it would fall over onto the Central Park Tower

There was a minor earthquake while I stayed there--we all survived. Funny, I hadn't felt one in Los Angeles in quite a while, then I come to AC and find my bed shaking (while I'm alone).
