I will probably stay at one of these three hotels when I go to BKK in November.

They can be reached at http://www.presidentpark.com

Seems like very nice luxury living and the package deal seems reasonable priced. I am probably going to go with the 50 SQM suites. That will run me about $50-75 USD per night, which I don't have a problem with. Compare that to the Motel 6 in Chula Vista where I usually stay for my trips to TJ. That is just a room. Very small. On the weekends, they want $50 a night. So $50 for a suite, furnished with all the amenities is not bad.

Here is a room layout.

I will probably go with the Tulip Suite or something similar.

They just raised their prices 15% over previous rates. Are you booking a double with AFB included?

I stayed at the Grand President in the pavilion suite for 3,850B per night. This was a two room suite with a bathroom in each bedroom. The place kicks ass. Absolutely no problems with taking the ladies back. I saw a white dude with what appeared to be a 10 year old thai gal (I almost blew chow at the thought of what was going on there. The poor girl wasn't even allowed to walk next to him - followed behind him. I felt like calling the police on the fucker).

Anyway, back to to pros on this place. There is a 7-eleven type store on the bottom floor of tower two and an actual 7-eleven just down the street towards Sukhumvit. Q-Bar is very close and a good spot for decent food. Also, Big Boy is pretty close to where Soi 11 hits Sukhumvit (hotel is on soi 11). Big Boy is another good spot to spend time between 6 and 9. There is a "sidewalk cafe and/or food cart" right across the street - I wouldn't touch the shit but my buddy and I saw our gals eat there in the a.m. after we tossed them out (we actually saw this twice so this place must have a real good rep !!!!).

Considering my physical/mental condition at about 8 p.m. or so (obviously bad in each case), I'm not totally certain but I believe we were able to walk to NEP in very little time. Sky Train stop is fairly close also. Very, very convenient location as far as I can tell.

At this point, I will not stay at any other place in BKK other than the GP. Maybe Majestic but my god, isn't that right next to NEP ??? Not sure I want to be that close !!!!

p.s. 24 hour room service and a full menu at any time of the day. that is huge also.

I am in Bangkok right now.

After arriving late on November 11th, I was able to get in two really good sessions. Details on those later. However, so far, I want to give a ringing endorsement for the Grand President Hotel, where I am currently staying.

The service is excellent. The best example I can give is the towel situation. Each time I call down to get some more towels, they are always at my door in just a few minutes and with a smile on their face. The hotel was clean and nice. I like it.

More details coming when I get back to the states late next week. Just wanted to check in and say I liked the Grand President a lot.

Are they OK about bringing "guests" back?

By Buick on Tuesday, November 13, 2001 - 06:52 am:  Edit

I stayed at the Grand President back in August of 2001. It is fantastic. I got a two bedroom suite for my buddy and I for $85US per night. It was on a lower floor and didn't have much of a view but it was very spacious - just perfect for bringing the gals back to party, etc...

they had no problem at all with guests.

I paid 2300 baht per night for the Royal Suite. They are totaly friendly towards guests. No problems at all.

Have stayed at Grand President in a deluxe mini suite last year for about ten days. Rate was about 2.100 per day. Book through a (local) travel agent to get better rate. They just have raised the prices, but still good value for money.
Room was very clean and big (42 sqm). King-size bed, TV, VCR, radio-tape-cd-player, phone, internet connection, room-safe, working area and rest area. Bathroom was quite big as well. Tub, separate shower with glass doors, very clean.
Breakfast is included and the best breakfast buffet I have seen so far. Gym is quite basic but good enough, sauna, pool, sunroof is on roof of entrance hall, no sun at late afternoon.
Girl-friendly.

Correction :

was at Royal President Soi 15 just 100m into the soi directly behind the Manhattan Hotel.

Grand President is at soi 11 and President Park at soi 23.

President Park is the best of these three but to far away from the action. But if you like to walk or don't mind the few extra baht for a taxi (only at night) or the BTS it might be an opportunity. I would only recommend it for families. They have everything you can think of, 4 or 5 pools, huge gym, sauna, massage etc.
BTW, it's not that far to Barons !

Has anyone stayed at the President Solitaire?

http://www.presidentsolitaire.com/hotels/presidentsolitaire/default.asp

and if so is it guest friendly? The other two President locations nearby are, so I am guessing that this one is...

I would check out this thread...

Blue Jobe,

The PS. is defimately guest friendly as are all the President hotels in BKK. It is a fine serviced apartments with some of the best accomodation you will find here. There are cheaper places per sq metre, but the PS is new and the rooms fantastic. Plasma TV's and DVD are just part of the draw. The Platignum suite has a Jacuzzi and the decor in all rooms is first class.

The only slight downside is it is a longer walk than the GP from Sukhumvit, but their tuk tuk was always on hand for me to the action and usually I get a taxi back at night, even the walk is only a few mins more than GP. The Q-bar is really close to. WW recommended.

Paid 2400 bhat per night (week stay) in the Royal Suite at Grand President. No problems. Nice maid, friendly and fast room service, plenty of space, high speed internet in the room. I might look at another place if I return to Bangkok but I would have to see it before switching from the GP.

Rm 1427..View faces rest of city..Sukumvhit..and the Sky Train. Not bad at all.

Blue jobe-- Check out my review of President Solitaire in this group under Bangkok Hotels . I just spent 3 weeks there and will definitely return. Best Air con I have ever experienced in LOS-- very quiet. The room was very comfortable and quiet. Kitchen well equiped also.Pics of room included. Hotel VERY guest friendly.
Walk to Sukhumvit not bad but not sure I would want to walk it in April during HOT season.

Stayed at the President Park on Soi 24 Maple towers. Big room, nice decor, nice big bathroom.
Long walk to Phrom Plom Skyway stop. Lots of motos nearby, never took one. The girls liked the room but it was too far from action IMHO. Kind of swanky expat hotel, no problem bringing girls in and out.

Got stuck while finding a room for the weekend and wound up here. (President Park) Here for 3 nights so got it at 2100B a night. Nice room, though I got stuck in smokers room but that may be cool depending on who I bring back.

Doorman in Mayflower wing seems cool, already offering to send someone right up...

Kitchenette is nice as I like to get up early and have coffee. Coffee should pose no problem as I counted no less than 6 shops in area on way to local Tops market.

Bath is large with big glass shower.

Lan port in room and seems pretty quick.

Large Safe is a bonus for those with large notebooks.

Seems a little far from nearest station, but I'll time it and add info later.

i was able to negotiate a monthly rate at the president park even though my stay is not 30 days straight. i'm doing two wks in bkk, 10 days in hk, and two weeks in bkk. i recently paid 50,000thb for one month and requested the same rate for my four weeks, even though i had the hk run in the middle.

the going rate for the maple tower was 2,499/nt. they countered with 2,299/nt. i made the request again and offered to stay in the mayflower wing instead of the maple tower. they came back with 2,100 "best rate avaiable" for mayflower wing "sorry but stay not 30 consecutive days so no discount".

my response was "this is the last request i will make, 50,000thb paid upfront upon check in for the mayflower or maple tower. if not approved, i will stay across the street at the davis".

i had no intention of staying at the davis. my request was approved and they put me in the maple tower. so i'm at under 1,700thb versus almost 2,500thb. savings = bar fine and one beer each night of my stay.

i should note that i did this a month ago as i'm about to arrive in bkk. i just checked the current rates and they've all dropped about 200/nt. i have a feeling they are not getting many guests due to the political situation. i doubt that is keeping mongers away but i guess general tourism is off.
