Why pay for sex..when you can get it for free !!!! This is my policy in life and I am usually successful. I am a 27 year old male(goodlooking !!) and I was in Kaohsiung recently. For anybody of you looking to make some easy money, teaching English at "bushibans" is a good alternative.
Don't worry if you do not speak a word of Chinese, because once the night sets in, Kaohsiung, all aglow in neon, is yours. Remember I mentioned "free sex". The numerous discotheques in the city are the best watering holes. For example try "Jurassic Park" in the heart of the city. On weekends the cover is NT$ 450(US$ 13) which includes a free drink. I guess Tuesday was ladies night, but the good part is that if you are a white male you stand a good chance of getting hooked up. Now I am not speaking about hookers, but very normal girls like the ones we see every day. Taiwanese girls are very shy when it comes to speaking English, but they want to, so desperately. They fantasize of having a "foreign" boyfriend.
I spotted a petite girl in a group(Taiwanese always dance in groups !!) who kept on glancing at me with an occasional smile. I discovered my chance and just joined in the dancing not very far from her. At some stage the "boys" of the group ( note. Taiwanese men go to the the WC in groups too !!!) had to answer the call of nature and left. I wasted no time and struck up a conversation, asking her her name and what she did. It worked !! We were dancing together for the rest of the evening, and she did not bother to go back to her "group" again. We did not have sex the very same night but the next two weeks (my entire stay in Kaohsiung) were spent in heaven with "Eden". (That was her name..most Taiwanese have a double English name). She was 20 and wanted to study at a US University. Her dream was to become a fashion designer.
Other places to check out are Rock 22 in the Hai Lai Hotel, DNA, (supposed to have an Irish/ Australian/Canadian ??? management), Sexy at the Grand Formosa, and Pig and Whistle on Wufu Road. Apart from this there are numerous bars on Wufu 4th Street where the barwoman herself is "willing" to go with you !!!(Montana Bar off Wufu Road)
If you believe in paying money..then try walking into the numerous Barber shops at "every" corner of this sprawling city...and be at a risk of being refused because you are a foreigner(AIDS !!!) and/or the doorman does not speak English. Try taking a Chinese speaking companion with you. It is difficult to recommend any good one because most of these places have absolutely no English name but there is one on Santou Road very close to the Linden Hotel where I was staying which charges a flat fee of NT$ 1500(US$ 45)for an all inclusive service. The girls are rarely under 25 but a good value for the money. Barber shops can be identified by the revolving neon signs, a symbolic butterfly like a man who hops from "flower" to "flower".
Patience is a virtue and if you have charm and are able to make both of these work for you, then you never ever have to pay a single dime for a "one-night-stand" Good luck !!!

Well, when you're 54 and butt ugly it's a different story. Aerqun, I enjoyed your post anyway. It's the first one I've ever seen about Taiwan.

Tight fit LOL.
Aerqun, are you white?
Also Kaoshiung is not Taipei, where most visitors go. Chicks in Taipei are a bit more jaded. Taiwan is an expensive country in Asia to visit overall. I like it very much and the people are genuinely nice. It is also quite spectacular with the new malls and hotels.

There are legal prostitutes in SNAKE ALLEY, but just about 3 houses left. The girls there are expensive $60-$100 USD and do not look good at all. You can go take a look for fun... They are displaying themselves very openly under a pink light.

Any updates for the short term visitor? I like the idea of ladies night at one of the bars. What about Karaoke? I should be headed over there in about 60 days and should be there for three days or so. I noticed no postings here for long time, just wondering if I can get up to date info here. Thanks

If you are a foreigner, decent looking and under 45, you have a good chance of hooking up when visiting Taiwan. Almost all the girls I met were very eager to learn English and it is fun for them to learn and be with those that are not from Taiwan.

I was in Taipei 2 years ago and walked for hours checking out places and peeking into bars, KTV's, massage places, etc. When I finally found a beerhouse to have a drink I was told they were closed. A girl came up to me and she spoke English and Chinese so she ordered a beer for me. That was strange. As we drank I explained to her that I wanted to find a "disco bar." So we picked up 3 of her girlfriends in our taxi and found this Huuuuuuuuuge club, with 1000's of people, girls dancing in bikinis, dj's, whiskey bottles, people throwing up on the floor--a perfect party! I found my disco bar, but I can't remember what it was called. After making out with the girl I got distracted and got lost ordering drinks. Next thing it's 3am and I have to wake up at 4--time to leave. I found lots of KTV's, massage places with the barber pole thing on the door, got a couple of hand jobs, and got to make out with an everyday gal. Going back there next week and hope to get me some! Anyone know how long it takes to go from Taipei to Kaoshiung? Rail? Bus? Anyone with surfing info there? You guys rock!

Can anyone deny or confirm this?
News report: Taiwan planning special sex zones
From AFP wire (April 7, 2011)
Taiwan's government said Thursday it is planning to create legal red-light districts so that it can police the sex trade more easily and protect sex workers' rights.
Under the proposal, sex workers would be able to apply for licences to operate in authorised zones and would be punished for plying their trade elsewhere, along with their clients.
Prostitutes currently face three days in jail or a fine of up to Tw$30, 000 ($1, 000) if they are caught providing sexual services while their clients go unpunished.
"The government intends to open up the sex industry to a moderate degree to better regulate it in accordance with the majority of public opinions," said Liu Wen-shih, of the interior ministry, which is due to submit the proposal to the cabinet next month.
A poll commissioned by the ministry late last year found that 76. 5 percent were in favour of conditionally opening up the sex trade while 14. 5 percent wanted a ban and 7. 6 percent supported unconditional opening.
The ministry dropped an earlier plan to allow small-scale brothels without zoning because it would be too difficult to keep a tab on them, Liu said.
While there is no official figure for the scale of Taiwan's sex industry, observers estimate it involves hundreds of thousands of people and generates billions of US dollars a year.

This was supposed to have started in 2010 but seems to be a bit behind schedule if my memory serves correct. I can vouch for the scene in 2010 being almost non existent except for some covered BJS off "snake alley" and 10 fillipinas in a couple of bars in the "combat zone". Pretty lame trip except for the hot springs in Tapai. Not scheduled to go back anytime soon.
