On one of my trips to northern thailand, the beautiful city of chiangmai, I did make friends and acquaintances from all over the world, who have decided to settle in that city, hence that is my favorite city which i visit for a month at a time at least three to four times a year.

Sure, there are many go go bars and beer bars which are fun but these establishments in my mind are more of a late night outing. Personally, i prefer to visit a place called "Sayuri Complex" which is located close to well known bars such as "The Riverside", "The Goodview" and "The Brassierie'. These are more for music and excellent food, but "Sayuri Complex" for my money is one place that should be visited early on before starting the evening.

Sayuri is a free standing building, with plenty of parking, excellent valets and the building is modern and more than up to western standards. As you enter, you have a choice of going up via two separate staircases, one leading to a restaurant/bar area with a big stage, where absolutely beautiful girls perform, not a sex show, but more of a song/music show which is excellent, and certainly should whet your appetite for what Sayuri offers on the other side. I must say that the girls on stage here are exceptionally beautiful.

On the other side, there is a very large and long room with plate glass floor to ceiling, and there are at any time between 25 to 75 women in nice revealing dresses and sitting around, listening to music, perhaps talking and watching tv. Each one of them has a number attached to their dress. There are settees out in front where a guest can relax, (nice comfortable leather couches, order drinks and peruse the women. Usually the managers are very very gracious and will answer any questions such as what specialty each girl may perform.

When you do choose one, he will do whats needed over an intercom and the girl comes out from the side door of this room, at which point you go over to the cashier, pay for the services and she takes you downstairs where they have many many small rooms, but done really nice, very very clean, done up with mirrors, a separate attached bathroom with a tub, etc. What you are paying for is an hour and a half of her time and the room (all inclusive) of course you tip whatever you wish, I usually tip 500 Thai Baht (which is only around U.S. 12/ if i am more than satisfied otherwise a couple of hundred will suffice.

i must have enjoyed at least 50 to 60 women in all my trips, and I will say that more than 90 percent of the time, i came out more than satisfied. The girls give you a lovely bath first (Thais are the cleanest people i have met) and then take care of your needs. Should you choose a girl with a "B" next to her number, (it signifies body massage), she will take you to the tub and soap you up and down with her body, it is out of this world).

A pointer as to costs, if you walk in with a taxi driver, its gonna cost you more, they get a commission. Go alone, make sure the taxi driver does not come in with you. Ask for the VIP room, I was taken there by a brit friend of mine the first time, and I pay only Thai Baht 900 for the whole hour and a half. If you go alone, they will try to charge you Bht 1800, but you should always say you have been there with a friend before, and you paid Bht 900 only. The management is more than gracious, lowkey and there is absolutely no pressure, one can just go in, have a few beers, check out the ladies and leave if you wish.

I would rate it a triple A place to go if you should be in Chiangmai. My third trip this year is in October, looking forward to it. I am living in bangladesh so you can imagine the difference in the sex scene, though bangladesh has and can have its own charm if you know your way around and set things up the way you like it, but nothing absolutely nothing like what Sayuri offers.

I visited Chiang Mai in the north of Thailand and went to a place called the Sayuri. This is the typical Thai Massage with the "black brush", not the traditional Thai Massage (where you keep your clothes on). The entrance had the fishbowl outfit, where the girls are behind a window and cannot see you. They all carry a number by which you can select them.

These were real beautifull girls, real models. Much better than in the barscene where you mostly find very average women.

Thanks for the report. I experienced Sayuri last year but was charged 1800 baht which may have been due to a taxi bringing me there. I read another report by I believe someone who lives in Chiang Mai who stated that you should claim you have been there before and paid 900 baht and they will accommodate you for that price. Anyone else have experience with Sayuri or can confirm how to get the 900 baht rate? I also remember it being difficult to get to and would probably have to take a taxi. How do you make sure a commission doesn't go to the taxi driver?

I have been there a couple of times and it is definately 900 baht. I speak Thai and life in BKK so I might have some advantages there. As for the location .... . I rent a motor cycle and drive there myself. I do not have any stret names. Basically the way to do it is:
Ask a tuktuk to bring you to Sayuri. Keep your eyes open. If you come from city center you will cross a bridge. Now depending on which of the 2 bridges you have taken the tuktuk will either make a left or right turn and then will go into a side street.
Once you get there tell him there is no girl that pleases and to bring you back. Get out of the tuktuk early and walk back.

OR rent a motorcycle and drive tehre yourself. Chiang Mai Muang and the surrounding countryside is excellent to drive in. For 150 baht a day you can already rent one!

Is Sayuri considered downtown Chiang Mai.. I am looking for a hotel and would like to be somewhat close

If I remember correctly which joint Sayuri is, it is not downtown. It is across the river. However, Chiang Mai is not that big, so we're not talking great distances. It's probably 5-10 minutes from downtown by cab or on your rented scooter.

I think you are right Murasaki. I vaguely remember taking a taxi there and I'm quite certain it was on the other side of the river. It wouldn't be worth it at all to get a hotel away from the night market (I guess you would call that area downtown) just to be slightly closer.

I will be in Chiang Mai in December.. I wanted to know when Sayuri opened up and how many girls are usually working there... thanks..
