I was thinking about 3 weeks - one week in Bangkok, one week in Pattaya and the last week I'd hit some of the rural parts of Thailand... Gotta say I saw more than just Thai pussy, right? ... (prog)

I've met Stickman and he's an ok guy, although a little (very?) militant on LT/ST fees. I pay the girls what I think their worth, good performers get a bonus and the lamers get their salary cut. You're bound for disappointment if you think you can get top-tier go-go girls to go with you LT for 1000/1500 Baht. Overall things are cheaper in Pattya especially if you concentrate on the beer-bars and freelancers.

My suggestion is this, don't overplan as flexibility is a good thing. Some time in Bkk then to Pattaya or Phuket without feeling like you have to move on seems to work for me. There are plenty of things to do outside mongering in all locations, the Grand Palace in Bkk for example.

Thanks for the information. I was curious about what Stickman writes since he's an expat, living in BKK. I am flying out there on someone else's dime... I have several interviews with a multinational corporation that is headquartered in BKK. I don't think I would seriously take a job there for a couple more years but I believe in testing the waters whenever possible! I was thinking about spending just a few days in BKK then the rest of my time would be spent seeing the country - with two BIG stops in Pattaya and Phuket.

I hear that Stickman is a Pakistani and is very anti-Chinese. His website says that chinese people are greedy assholes. He also makes quite a few anti-Thai remarks yet he lives there. What gives?

Stickman is not Pakistani. He's from New Zealand.

I have not personally read the anti-Chinese remarks that you mention. Can you provide a specific link to the exact page? Stickman also has a reader's submission page on his website and in his weekly column so you may be confusing something you read there as Stickman's own work.

As for his comments that you may consider anti-Thai. I've read Stickman for a while now and I think he provides pretty frank commentary about the way things are in Thailand. This is all based on first hand knowledge and observations. I have not read anything I would consider to be anti-Thai. However, just like I get frustrated about the way things sometimes are in America, I am sure as an expat living in Thailand, Stickman gets frustrated about certain things in Thailand. It he chooses to express those views and the reasons for his frustrations, that doesn't necessarily mean he's a racist or anti-Thai.

Being a Kiwi, Stickman tends to be quite blunt about some of his opinions about Thailand and especially about the Thai government.

One has to admit that from the farang point of view, much of what happens in Thailand makes little to no sense. I think that the first time I saw the phrase, "TIT-This is Thailand" was in something Stickman wrote.

IMHO Stickman has a great deal of respect for Thailand, her people and much of Thai culture. But, as with any non-Thai I suspect that much of Thai social custom still escapes the relm of understanding.

If nothing else, take his pages as a first hand account and observation of the goings on in BKK. As with any editorial, you can pick and choose what you take and believe.

I found it interesting that Stickman is now using ClubHombre merchandise for prizes in his contests ... we do get around.

You haven't heard any anti-Chinese sentiment until you've heard a Thai national talk about Chinese-Thais. A lot of deep-seeded hatred between Thais and Chinese-Thais. Chinese-Thais are notoriously Xenophobic towards other Thai people and treat Isaan people as sub-human. Don't believe me, go to any rich Chinese-Thai household and watch how they treat their Issan servants.....it's deplorable. Stickman has made statements that reflect the Thai nationals feelings towards Chinese-Thai.

Stick really does not like the farang surcharge or the Thai military. He is oftem complimentary on the police. As he often says/writes the whole place is full of contradictions.

Well I just heard from people who actually live in Bangkok that Stickman is racially East-Indian or Pakistani, who was born and raised in NZ, similar to the Indians who own Majestic Suites who are racially Indians but are "Thai Citizens" because they were born and raised in Thailand.


Here is the anti-Chinese passage that Stickman printed:

"Chinese Thais as wealthy and successful but consider many of them to be jai dum, literally meaning black heart. They say this because of the Chinese Thais love affair with money and their seeming reluctance to part with it. As employers and when in business, the Chinese Thais have the reputation of being real penny pinchers, negotiating every price down to the last satang (1/100 th of baht!). Ask any Thai person how they feel about Chinese-Thai and you will hear a lot worse. Ask an Isaan person how they feel about Chinese-Thai and how they treat their Isaan workers like sub-humans. Quit being super-sensitive. Their are general cultural differences among Asians and to deny them would be a lie.

Incorrect. Many Thai-Chinese treat Issan or any Thai workers like any other workers. You should hear how central Thai people talk about their Issan/Lao brethren. Quit being super-sensitive and making things up. True, Thai-Chinese may tend to be wealthier but that doesn't make them mean. Indians like Stickman are well hated by the Thais too.

As someone who sat at a table for over an hour at the Starbucks Coffee at Siam Square and secured a deal with Stickman for ClubHombre advertising on his website, I only have one thing to add to this conversation.

I always find Stickman a good read on Sundays and
amusing and informative. The fact that he is down at the "coalface" living in BKK and travels to Pattaya and beyond also means its all first hand, topical and fresh news.

Stickman is spot on about a couple of things. Long Gun is well overdue for renovation. It was pretty grungy four years ago and no improvements have been made in that time frame. It's just plain musty in there and the little walls in front of all the seats make it very hard to sit comfortably if you're even slightly taller than average.

Also, depending on where you drink, Cowboy is certainly now more expensive than either Patpong or Nana. At all the King's group bars in Patpong, a cocktail is 100 baht. Some of the all-nude places on Cowboy charge up to 135 baht, while the standard at NaNa is 125. Given that, in general, there are more attractive women in both NaNa and Patpong than Cowboy, this is a bit surprising. I guess you're paying for the exposed breasts, but quite often the exposed wobblies would be better off strapped firmly into a bikini.

Hey Manos, I'm glad you brought this up. A lot of guys think there are hotter go-go girls in a few of the go-go bars in Nana, than the whole of Soi Cowboy put together. Long Gun will probably never get renovated until it is sold to somebody who cares about his customers. It must half cripple tall guys who try to squat behind those church pews! As for drink and BF prices 800 baht is extortionate for a barfine in Soi Cowboy. Regarding available babes, Nana Plaza and the top bars in Patpong have much better options. There are some attractive BG's in Cowboy but you have to go early to get the hotties. There is such a limited number that you have to be first.

Redbus, Phil (former UK club DJ) is the new manager of NAUGHTY GIRLS (opposite Paris in Soi Diamond). He got offered a better deal, WINDMILL has already taken a nose dive as a result.

Hi Bedouin, generally most people are seeing the ousting of ole Toxin as a very positive thing. Some poor farmers in distant provinces are not too happy though, because Toxin was paying them off with Thai Government money! These farmers will just have to work for their money like the rest of Thailand. I think it's still too early to tell politically, but don't worry the atmosphere is relaxed in terms of policing the nightlife areas. It is now rumoured that HM King would like to lift the ban of alcohol for all Royal birthdays. IMO it is a case of "wait and see" for the political and economic future, but the nightlife did suffer (in BKK especially) under Toxin's draconian laws. Whilst the world fought a war on terrorism, Toxin declared a war on tourism! IMO Life can only be better without Toxin (Whacky Thaky), but give Thailand time to emerge as a better Nation.

Stick told me that he received 300 emails yesterday, which is a record even for him. He has an Army of followers most I suspect are infrequent visitors to Thailand. For newbies to Thailand Stickman is ideal in some ways.

I don't always agree with what Stick writes sometimes but this Stickman stalker is a complete lunatic. Nobody deserves to be stalked by some whacko loony. This is just sick.

If I want to know where to go for good happy hour drink specials or whether the atmosphere is "lively" at certain venues or whether the music is too loud or where to eat at some new pub...then I read Stickman.

If I want to know anything about the mongering scene at all, that's the last source I would go to. The guy doesn't barfine girls, has no clue what the girls charge, has no clue about what kind of service the girls provide, basically he is a married school teacher with a limited budget living in Thailand and just likes to sip on his happy hour drink and stare at the girls that he cant fuck. Of course he plays favorites to bar owners whom kick him back some free drinks or restaurants that might provide him some free food. I'm sure he doesn't admit to this but I'm sure it's done.

I do think that reading Stickman's page will give newbies a good reference to understand some of the pitfalls in meeting Thai bargirls and many of the stories written by members are great. No reason for anyone to try to make this guys life hell when he is providing information for free(as far as I know).

I tend to agree with your comments and those of Don Marco. But love or loathe Stickman he did replace Bernard Trink "Nite Owl" in a bigger and better way. Stick has the number one website of its genre and Stickman knows his market - mostly guys a million miles away from Thailand with little else to do but read his site.

Stickman is a lovely guy in person, he buys me dinner when we meet and goes out of his way to help his friends. Similar to the mongers I know on this board Stickman is a super guy in person.

Don't know what I would have done without reading the Reader's Digest version of how English teachers live in Thailand here in this fascinating thread.

Stickman does have the largest readership out of all Thailand related websites. Obviously Stickman is not for you guys (KM & DM), but his readership numbers are second to none. Stickman must have been doing something right, he's been going strong for over seven years. As I have stated I think his site appeals to newbies and certainly not veteran mongers.

I think it mostly appeals to lurkers who have no intention of going to LOS and just want to live vicariously through others, no matter how tame the story and to local expats(particularly the broke ones) who want to know how to get the most bang for your buck while going to the bars but not barfining. My problem with Sticks site isnt the information per se, but the source.

Yes, good observation and I tend to agree. Just look at "Reader's Submissions" some are written by downright losers and the rest are by those desperately seeking attention! It is remarkable how Stickman has marketed his site to become the number one. But in defence it makes a change from forum based sites where morons just shoot their mouths off. Whether Stickman returns to full strength or not, he knows his market and it is certainly not hardcore mongers.

He gets 5,000 hits a month just from the bus I believe. Kinda skews the numbers.

Say what you will about Stickman one way or the other, but his original "Naughty Nightlife in Bangkok" (long since removed) guide to Thailand/Bangkok/Pattaya was a great help to me while planning my first trip to Thailand back in 2001.

I've no doubt that his has a following. The guys that got their balls lopped off and are afraid to hop on a plane... I've also nothing against him or what he says. I just get tired of redbus feeling the need to report every time he takes a shit. Hell, if he knew anything about pussy and had some pics, I may even visit his site once in a while.

He was instrumental in the early days of Thai mongering and had a lot of helpful hints for newbies. Now his sight is basically just information on Thailand in general and some tidbits on drink prices and bar closures. He seems down on Bangkok over the past few years. If you read his updates on his site, I think his Bangkok days are numbered.

I think Stickman's a very good writer and his site is very interesting on things like being an expat in Thailand. Re: mongering, it's clearly not his thing. It's clearly not one of our most (recently) prolific poster's re: Bangkok mongering thing either, but that doesn't stop him from bleating on and on about it. How can you listen to a guy that hasn't barfined in YEARS about the quality of their prostitutes?

Redbus, regarding Thai boyfriends a Thai I know very well said that almost all of the BG's in Pattaya have a Thai boyfriend. In Pattaya there are no delusions about where a farang stands!

Bangkok is different because there is such a cross-section of Thai women. However, many BG's do have Thai boyfriends, I can confirm that because I know many of these Thai guys myself. Why the hell wouldn't a Thai girl have a Thai boyfriend? A farang girl has a farang boyfriend after all, what is the difference?

There's been raids in Pattaya from complaints by tourist that there's bars operating without a licence and employing underage staff, this was from monkey watch in Pattaya addicts.

What he ask is where are these complaints which the police can't produce and how would tourists know of this knowledge in the first place.
