What is happening at 3 AM in Angeles City? In late February 2003 during my short visit to the Philippines, I was up late making the rounds of clubs and bars. I could have selected a girl much earlier in the evening. However, one night I was with a visiting American that I met in one of the clubs on Burgos Street in Manila and again walking along Fields Avenue in Angeles City. He wanted company and together we visited various clubs. We exchanged tips and stories about Angeles City and other destinations, such as Cambodia, Vietnam, Bangkok, Pattaya, Seoul, Batam, Singapore, etc, while we enjoyed the night life. Eventually about 3 am, we split up and I got to concentrate seriously.
There are big, slick clubs in Angeles City that are opened to 5 am, which are operated by the Champagne group. However, I was not in the mood for one of them. At 3 am, most of the clubs and bars in the central area are closed. So, it was fairly easy to spot which ones were opened. Since I was not in the mood for a big, slick club, I looked for a smaller one.

I went into the Kitten Club. Inside was a small crowd of about ten customers, twenty girls, and staff. What I enjoyed there were the music and rock video on the high definition screen. The deejay selected good tracks of classic rock which could not only be heard but also be seen on the screen of a shoulder-high monitor. The sound system had next-to-no distortion and was not overly loud. Some tracks were so good that many in the crowd had their arms up and were waving to the music. A waitress came around and passed out free shots of tequila. A few minutes later, the club manager named Stewart came over to my table and introduced himself. He was a friendly fellow, who said that he had been recently hired and was making a lot of changes to the club. I hung out there for about an hour, enjoying the sounds and crowd vibes. Definitely a good, mid-sized club with excellent music.

Then I went a few doors away to the Brown Sugar. The club was packed with people. Every seat was occupied and there were more than ten of us standing. I joined two Filipinas sitting alone at an end table. One was a little older than the average girls and had the biggest set of ta-ta's on a Filipina I had ever seen. Since these girls were likely prospects, I bought a round of drinks for us. The crowd noise was loud and the music was even louder. Every now and then, the deejay selected a really good song and the crowd was on its feet singing and dancing. By this time, I too was dancing in the aisle with those ta-ta's pressed against my chest. Peter, the manager, was circulating among the crowd and came over to say hello. I had introduced myself to him the day before and he told me that he was from Germany and had lived in Rio for several years. He was an older gentleman with a handlebar mustache, who spoke fluent English with a German accent and was very amiable. He brought me a shot of a refreshing concoction of grape juice and alcohol. Sorry, I cannot remember the name of the drink, but it made a flavorful contrast to my San Miguel beer. Peter claimed that his club's best hours were from 3 am to 5 am. I believe it.

By the way, I drank too much that night. How do I know? Because I took the big ta-ta's back to my hotel room and found out the reason they were big was because she was too beefy, which I would have reasoned out for myself beforehand had I been sober. But, I did not let that beef stop my choo-choo train.

Life was good in Angeles City.
