Five years ago, I visited Angeles City and appraised it as a top Asian destination, but not for me. One reason was the clubs. They ranged from small to large, one-or-two girls to many girls, no dancing to dancing, primitive to smoke-and-mirrors, quiet to loud-and-noisy, and so on. Based on my visit in late February 2003, I can say that the clubs in Angeles City have changed. Angeles City now has a few high-end clubs. They are Blue Nile and Camelot. Also, The Pick-Up is very interesting, although it is a discotheque where the girls may be
free-lancers. A few doors away is Amore, which was scheduled to open February 1, but was still undergoing some renovation. It might be a high-end club too. I do not know who or what started these clubs; it could have been an enterprise called the Champagne Group,
which owns some of these and other clubs.

These high-end clubs make a good contrast during an evening of sampling one club/bar after another. Their interiors are visually interesting, high ceiling, second-story balcony seating. Surprisingly, the price of a San Miguel beer is the same or a little lower price than other clubs, specifically, 55 pesos, which was equivalent to a few pennies over a dollar.

Other clubs that are among the classy clubs but are not really high-end are Blue Nile Executive, Nero's Forum, and Volcano. I heard that Blue Nile Executive may become membership-exclusive. As of late February 2003, it will need a lot of improvements to be worth a membership fee (such as a 1000 pesos or $20 for one week), such as a much better show, better groomed girls, better furnishings, and distinctive staff service.

I believe that the high-end clubs in Angeles City are a whole lot better than the clubs in Bangkok's Pat Pong, NEP, and Soi Cowboy and the go-go clubs in Pattaya of two years ago (except possibly for the transvestite show clubs which I did not enter).

Of course, one should not go to a destination solely for the aesthetics of a few clubs. But, it is nice to be able to enjoy a range of clubs and to sit in a luxury club or two and let your visual sense be amused if not bedazzled.

In terms of the total number of clubs and bars, Bangkok and Pattaya have more than Angeles City within a mile distance. But, within 4-block distance, Angeles City has more than 40 clubs and bars. See www.acmap.com and look along Fields Avenue, Real and

I dream of living in Pattaya or Bangkok. Now I am adding Angeles City.

I've been to nearly all the clubs in Pattaya, NEP, Soi Cowboy, Patpong, Subic Bay, Cebu, EDSA, some of the Makati bars and all of the bars in Angeles City. The one thing Angeles has that beats all of the above is the low pay first LT price of $20. The place is not as interesting as Pattaya or Bangkok but if you just want young, slim girls who speak English, then you can't go wrong by AC. The hotels are even a good value and food is decent. It's still a rather dusty place though. I've been a returning yearly to AC for 17 years. The bars have improved condsiderable since then. Unfortunately, taking traveler's checks there are still a big pain still to get exchanged. If AC could all be transposed to Subic Bay it would really rival Pattaya Beach.

I wish I knew you were there in late February. I was there from Feb 15 until March 2. Pickup Bar is the biggest addition to Angeles City and I think it will change the way business is run there. There really is no need to pay a full barfine when there is the Pickup Bar & Disco. I had a freebie from there without even looking. I met the girl as she was going in. There were also MANY opportunities to get 1/2 price the cost with twice the satisfaction simply because it is now a "PAY AFTER" arrangment instead of "PAY FIRST". The only real problem with AC is that after a couple weeks a guy would have seen it all. Not like Pattaya where there are many other things to do besides barhopping. I have a special girl now so that's why I continue to go back...

But, you should develop hobbies to keep yourself busy, such as writing reports, practicing a sport (swim, shoot pool, martial arts), joining a club, etc. If you mean the girls and the clubs, then you should visit Manila, Cebu, and other cities.
I heard that the owners of the clubs and bars were worried about what The Pickup could do to their business. However, I would argue that they should welcome the variety it gives to the scene. Sure, it will change the way the owners do business. But, look at Bangkok where there are loads of clubs and several hangouts for free-lancing girls.

For example, The Pickup offers no girls dancing half-nude on stage, no control over the girls, no way to report on a girl who gives a customer a difficult time, and does not pay the girls anything. Many guys who are not young and/or not handsome will have difficulty getting a half-decent free-lancing girl to go with him and if he can, the girl will want a high price. One place will not replace two good places, because it will become boring after awhile. Imagine going to one discotheque night after night and running into the same girls night after night.

The last discotheque I visited for free-lance girls was in Bantam. It was much better than trying to pick out a girl from a crowd of sitting girls in a fishbowl room in massage parlors. Although a lot of girls approached me, they also were constantly badgering me for drinks for themselves and their girl friends and asking for the drug ectasy. Also, a couple of drug dealers approached me selling it. No thanks. The discotheques played its music too large and sometimes was pitch black, too dark to see faces. I finally found a girl that I liked, who had to be convinced to go with me and was only average in bed. Bantam did not have any clubs with dancing girls on stage. Besides massage parlors and three discotheques, it only had a bunch of pubs where you can drink, eat, play pool, play darts, and chat with a few free-lancing girls. Boring for me.

You said that you got a freebie and girls for half the price. Good for you. In my experience, the few freebies I got actually costed me more than if I had paid cash. The really fine girls that I would like to have usually do not want me unless I pay an exorbitant price. So, I prefer pay-for-play girls in clubs where I can get a good look at them and buy them a drink to gauge their reaction to me.

Just how often did you get freebies in AC? Would they rate high on most playguys' desire list?
