Whenever I stay in Bangkok, I find myself needing to exercise (I don't golf). Running outside in the heat, humidity, and smog is not an option. Running on an indoor threadmill is more my speed and comfort. I just need an option to the drinking, screwing, and sleeping all day long. At my age, I need to keep myself in shape and it re-charges me. These clubs also offer a great opportunity to meet "regular" Thai girls. Many of the clubs offer great therapeutic massage.
The Capitol Club on Sukhumvit Soi 24 is part of the President Park Condos. It has a rock climbing wall. During my recent trip to Bangkok, I saw The Capitol Club advertising on the front page of The Nation newspaper.

California Fitness Club located across the street from the Patpong entertainment area and the Sala Daeng skytrain station. This is a real nice club with great equipment. After a good workout, you can walk across the street and get a different type of workout.

Silom City Fitness. I don't know much about this place. Daily use fee is 220 baht. Monthly use fee is 1,500 baht.

Bangkok has lots and lots of health clubs (some are gay so be careful). These are just a few that I am aware of. Hopefully, this will help some of you stay in shape during the day while pooning all night.

Which of these would you recommend for price-location-quality and for how much weekly-daily? I have not found a gym that is not $10 a day..ridiculous prices at some of the nicer hotels.

Yujin,
Have you seen a 24 Hour Fitness Health Club located in the Patpong area?
| By Yujin on Friday, March 28, 2003 - 05:32 pm: Edit |
Blazer,
For location and quality, I highly recommend California Fitness. This will probably be my preferred health club for future trips to Bangkok. It's so easy to get to via the Skytrain. Walk down the stairs from the Skytrain and you're almost there. There were some really nice looking babes working out there.
I can't address the daily usage fee for California Fitness. I learned about California Fitness on my last couple of days in Bangkok and only worked out there once. I had met a Canuk (Canadian) at the Dynasty Hotel who was going there and he invited me along. Somehow he got me in for free or else he picked up the cost and refused to tell me.
I don't know if membership in a USA or Canadian California Fitness Center entitles you to a reduce usage fee.
If I recall correctly, California Fitness offers a daily, weekly, monthly, etc. usage fee. The daily fee might be relatively high so it might be more cost effective to purchase a weekly or monthly usage fee.
Solid808,
I don't recall seeing a 24-Hour Fitness Center in the Patpong area. I did look for a Gold's Gym in Bangkok without success.

Anyone have recent information about healthclubs in Bangkok?
Thanks

Are you planning on going? If your company will pay for the Mariott, they have a pretty good facility.

The trip is still not 100% and the project manager is just getting back so no chance to learn details such as hotel. Do they have free weights at the Marriot? I work with this PM a lot and he knows I require workouts while traveling so he may let me choose the Mariott if it has an adequate club. Most hotels in the states claim to have a health club but in the end they are worthless (if you like to lift).
It is looking pretty good that I will need to be there for two weeks towards the middle of June. Plus I will add the lead and following weekend. Keep your fingers crossed. Would work out pretty nice I leave for Rio tomorrow (the 15th) return the 26th. Then I might be going to Thailand the 9th-27th of June

Ah, what a rough job you have.
The club at the Marriott is the best I've seen at a hotel, it had two rows of workout machines, over a dozen, and free weights too I think (that's not my thing, but I think I saw a section of the facility with weights). Sauna, the works. And you may be able to purchase a deal that my friend bought, a package for $175 that included various coupons, like for passes for 15 days at their club, a bunch of coupons for a room for a week at 1/2 price (but you don't get breakfast included at that price), etc.
It's expensive either way, but if it's on the company tab...$185/ day or so, plus 10% tax plus more tax....
Enjoy Rio, lucky guy.

To all concern;
Right behind the Bumrungrad Hospital there is a Fitness Center, which belongs to the hospital. is small but it has a sauna (very small and not very good). also has some treadmill machines ans some weights. it offers weekly and monthly menberships plus there's a health bar for your favorites drinks, staff is very helpful and some annoying, still a good option for short term stays in LOS. I did used it last time i was there and probably will go back there again. is a short walk from Sukhumvit Road.///

This billboard can currently be seen from the Asok BTS station. It’s obviously targeting the Thai market since there’s only minimal English.
The average farang would notice the photo but would have a clue what it was all about. If you can’t read Thai you wouldn’t realize that it’s an ad for a health club – not an S&M gogo bar! The photo looks like a show girl from Angel Witch!

Size 15,A recon trip would be taking one for the team.I`m glad to see that body culture is hitting Bangkok. If some of these girls would tone up,like in Rio,it could change the whole beach scene.Don`t know if they would use leisure time in a Gym,but a nice alternative to disco`s.Thanks in advance!

Yeah, California WOW rocks. They have various memberships (and the prices seem to change on who you are, so bargain for long-term contracts.)
But the facilities are great. They are THE choice if you work in Thailand. They are all over Bangkok, that's for sure. And they are building in Pattaya, Chiang Mai, and Phuket.
I was going to get a lifetime membership + yoga, but I stalled on it, since my apartment already has a gym. It's something like 65k for lifetime to all the gyms, + 24 hour fitness in the USA, and the gyms in S. Korea, and ALL the gyms in Thailand. Also comes with a free one year membership I can sell or give to my girlfriend / wife, whatever.
If you don't want that, then you can get a one year any Thai location (maybe with yoga, maybe not, not sure) for about 35k, I think. Then the yearly fee is like 2k per year after that.
Then you can get 1 year, 1 location for one year for as low as ... 15-18k per year depending on promotion or not. That's not bad, about 1500 baht per month for a premier gym (one location only.) I think they drop the yearly price after that ... my pal got in for 14k after paying 18k per year ...
They got places in Silom, Sukhumvit, Siam Paragon (yes, IN the mall!) and every important place in Bangkok.
You can get (short-time, haha) 1 month 1 location for 5000 baht.
You can also get 1 week 1 location for 1500 baht.
Personally, I'd get the one year for 15-18k. If you're a drill-worker or something or you travel a lot, you can suspend the one-year contract once during that year (for at least two months). Then you can come back after however long and continue with what is remaining on your contract. Pretty good deal.
The girls in the Asok are not that hot. One hot chick, a personal trainer, is definitely barbie-doll material, long, high pony tail and a nice, shapely rear, but other than that (she gets hit on all the time, so better be real with her, haha, she's still sweet) the girls are pretty plain at Asok. Would like to see the girls near Silom, however. Maybe some hot sexetaries there?
