Jools is probably the largest and most popular of the bars in this area. They have several professional quality shows per evening with a cast of both men and women dancing, mostly Jazz I think.
After walking in through a small twisted entrance corridor, the first thing you'll notice is the large production stage. In front of the stage is a dance floor. The rest of the club is set as a well kept bar with plenty of tables and bar type seating. If you woke up in this bar in the evening, you might think you were in Vegas rather than the Phillipines, well, at least until you noticed the large PI population.
Soon after walking in, you'll see a plethora of smiling young (and some not so young) girls that would be happy to provide you with company. I would advise against sitting down immediately. Once you do, at least 3-5 girls will come up to you and ask you to buy them a drink ($5). Many will ask several times throughout the night and the waitresses will ask for them as well. If you are familiar with Tijuana ficha strategy, it's nothing compared to here. Unlike Tijuana, they'll just smile and move on, or try to convince you, or pout for you to buy them a drink. I only noticed this in Jools, though. This kind of drink buying pressure wasn't present in Bottoms or the other 4-5 bars I visited.
When a show is not going on, the stage is used for the girls to show themselves off. Though the selection is incredible, their "dancing" is not. Most just kind of stand there and sway. Most of the girls are also wearing one of several different dresses. The dance floor in front of the stage is also used when there are a lot of girls.
Occasionally, they bring the girls off and the dance floor becomes full with guys and girls dancing as though the place was a dance club.
Protocol on bringing a girl to the room is the same as other places, but perhaps a bit more expensive.
Jools was easily my favorite place because of the show, the high quality selection of girls, and the volume of girls. However, one must be advised to watch their expenses. $5 drinks add up quickly. You might also want to keep a close eye on your tab if you keep one.

El Gato,
I actually think the girls at Jools are rather good dancers. Their show seemed very professionally choreographed, sort of like Cleopatra's in AC.
Fortunately, I did not encounter the ladies drink pressure, because I was with my honey ko. But, I have no doubt it exists.
I saw several lookers the times I've been there, but never have had the opportunity to engage in anything more.

You misunderstood my post. I agree the show they put on is professionally choreographed and is excellent. I was talking about when the girls stand up on the stage between shows just moving around. Kind of like the dancing that goes on in the Go-go bars, they just sit there and sway.

You are correct, El Gato. I too noticed they do that lame (IMHO), disinterested sway. I think it's a method to keep them from falling asleep!

I thought Jools was a nice change of pace from the other bars. The floor show was actually very good with some really cute dancers. I am not sure if the stars of the show were available to barfine since I was with my honey ko and I don't think she was up to a threesome. LOL
The drinks are a little higher and there was a charge for the floor show of about $3 or $4. I will agree that the normal dancers do just stand up there and sway back and forth but at least it gives you a good view of the girls for a later selection.
I did see a couple of girls who must have been twins who were pretty cute but on the short and heavier side but not fat by any means. If they were up to it I bet they could give a pretty good tag team job on you back in the room.
I never had a problem with any over charge on my bill but it would still be a good idea to keep an eye on the charges that you sign for.

From Asia: Philippines: Manila: Blazers Guide to Manila: VI.Makati (Burgos Street)
Has a show at 11pm with different themes every night. Very small stage upstairs but has a lot of table and a fairly large bar. Downstairs has a live band and many of the girls will try to take you there to buy their friends drinks. Girls were way to pushy here...total turnoff and the girls were just average looking and worn out.

quote:...Increased its beer price to 150 pesos. But, it has the best show on Burgos with highly-trained dancers, stunning costumes, clever stage backdrops, and occasional dance number with the girls wearing translucent tops showing tat-tats. One issue was that sometimes the music was too loud and also was distorted. Show was 20-minute long, every hour, starting at 10 pm, 4 times a night, Tu - Sat...

-- Third and probably the best of the three expat areas for girls. I do not know this area as well as the other two areas. About 20 clubs in 4 short block area. Unlike a few years ago, the sidewalk has some viagra/cialis generic salesmen and a lot of girls offering massages in your hotel room. Much fewer beggars on the sidewalk, unlike Ermita.
-- Clubs with shows featuring well-rehearsed girls in dance routines. JOOLS, 20-minute shows every hour starting 10 pm, in costumes and stage set. STARDUST, 20-minute shows every hour starting 9:30 pm, and free serve-yourself bbq chicken wings on Wed. MIXED NUTS reportedly has a midnight show. Many clubs offer a Friday midnight show, which tend to be mostly amateurish dancing. GIRLY LOUNGE sometimes has a pole dancer.
-- Clubs with beer for 100 pesos or less: ROGUES, STARDUST, BLUSH, PLAN B, KOJAX (new). Maybe STRING (formerly Pussycats). Some clubs have happy hours, which might end at 7 pm or at 8 pm depending on the club. Some clubs have half-priced beer/drink all night, like IVORY on Wednesdays and WOW WOW WOW on Sundays.
-- A lady drink can cost nearly 400 pesos, but can be as low as 200 pesos at certain times or on certain nights.
-- Bar fine. General rule is that the bar fine is 10 times the cost of a lady drink. Mama-san's told me that the customer is expected to make an additional payment to the girl. At Kojak, 2nd floor, side street, behind Bourbon St club, the bar fine costs 2,600 pesos.
