I decided to book a flight to bangkok after reading the many positive reports. I was able to buy a ticket on Yahoo travel for 599 or a total of 650 including tax ect. I contacted Kaiser for their take on required vacinations. I have read that there are none required. I was told by Kaiser that there are no required shots but that it would be a good idea to get a polio shot and if engaging in sex Hepatitus A & B shot. I was told that polio is still a problem in Thailand and that the shot I had when I was 5 may not be sufficient to protect from the virus. I was also told tha Hep B was easier to catch that Aids and all it took was one small mistake or carelessness due to alcohol to get. I decided to get them all. The polio and Hep B shot are thus far a piece of cake. I may wake up tomorrow with a sore arm but as of right now the shot was and remains painless. I leave in September and will get a second shot in a couple of weeks. The hep B vacine requires 3 shots.

If it makes you feel any better, I got my vaccinations for the same trip yesterday. Hep A in the left arm, Hep B in the right, Immuno-Globin in the ass.
Funny thing: Everyone in the doctor's office knew where I was going for vacation, so when the nurse was giving me the last I-G shot in the butt, she said "I'll put this here cuz' it'll be closer to the point where your gonna want protected!" All I could is grin and bear it. I'll be there 9/15 - 9/22.
Have a good time.

I did these over a year ago. It's actually a series of shots. Which should be started about six months prior to the trip (when done correctly). I had Hep A, Hep B, Typhiod (sp) and Tetness (sp). One on each limb. Good thing I didn't require five shots. The Tetness came in handy as I impaled my hand on a steel rod while I was there (that stuff is everywhere in the form of little gates).

Solo,
Just got back from a week in Phuket and didn't get any shots before leaving. Had no trouble drinking the water or eating the food, and I've been back for 5 days now with no signs of any problems. I stayed at a nice hotel and spent most of my time at Cristin's Massage in Phuket and in decent restaurants (everything is dirt cheap, everywhere). Great place, just be prepared to sweat continuously ... the humidity was unbearable and A/C is not that common, even at the good restaurants. Can't beat the good pussy though ... plentiful and cheap. My only complaint is it was damned hard to find a BJ, much less a decent one.

NCshake:
Next time prowl around the small beer bars ( in search of a good bbbj) in the area behind the shamrok bar/Irish ( on the beach road).
the Bars in the left side ( facing in to the soi) back by the "paytoilet" are your best bets.
also, katz bar on the soi with the german steak house ( Grille hutte) is a good spot early in the evening.
Not quite as " seedy" as the places in patpong or pattaya soi post office area, but the end result is the same.
still, I think "take out" service is better.
I'de take the heat/humidity to the boredom here any day.

Elf- a long way to go for one week or so I thought in deciding the length of my trip which will be 3 weeks. That should give my sore ass time to recover from the trip over.
NC Snake; Pasthai; I wanted to go to Phuket but during my research read that Ko Samui was the cheapest place in Thailand for wine woman and booze and that there were less tourist and plenty of woman.I know that Bangkok and Pattaya will be two of my destinations. Anyone been to both Phuket and Ko Samui? If so what would be your choice of the two?

Solo,
The price for girls in Koh Samui is same as Pattaya, the price for hotels, food ect will be a little more than Pattaya but still relatively cheap. Koh Samui is a beutifull Island there is not nearly the selection of girls (its actualy limited) compared to Phuket, Pattaya or Bangkok.
Scooter
IMO - "cheapest place in Thailand for wine woman and booze " would be Pattaya

Look at the cost this way:
You spend about $900 more or less to get there, any other expenses will be only a small percentage of the overall trip.
If you sweat spending too much, you will miss out on some ( a lot of) fun.
Treat urself to some fun, afterall, thats why you are traveling all that way.
If you miss out on some things because of a small difference in price, you'll be kicking urself once you get back and have time to think it over.
I know many a guy that said he saved $2 a nite by getting a ( IMHO crappy) room over a better one.
took the bus instead of the air cond taxi.
( arrived in pattaya in pitiful shape)
took a toktook over a cab and ended up smelling like buss/traffic fumes most of the nite.
drank mekong in stead of good stuff ( and lived to tell of it)
an so on.
live it up. (its only a few bux a day to put aside here to spend there)
BTW: don't waste ur $$ on crappy trinkets/souiviners. it always looks better on the vendors cart than when you get it home.
have fun.

A funny thing about it is that after a while you start really thinking about the money in Thai terms. I have a friend who refuses to stay on the second floor of the hotel we use in Pattaya because the rooms are $12.00 and not $7.00 as on the 4th and 5th floors (no elevator in this hotel / though everything else is brand new) its just funny how you start looking at things once you have spent allot of time over there. Another thing that always cracks me up is the whole lady drink thing..... $1.00 - $2.00 and guys think thier completely being ripped off... it's just everything is so cheap there....

I totally agree with Scooter. I great example is the Eden Club. $100USD for two girls for 1.5 hours. Ouch! But compared to TJ that is a bargain. After a while, you find yourself wheelin and dealin for even small stuff. Oh well.

Scooter thanks for the info. I have 3 weeks and dont want to spend a great deal of that time traveling from point to point. I guess Phuket; pattaya & Bangkok would be good for my first visit. The available selection is important and based on that alone Phuket seems to win especially since September is not the busy season.

Oh sure, but you can get your rocks off in Thailand at a fraction of the Eden price is all I'm saying. Even that is better than TJ.

This is just a bit off-topic but I feel this is the appropriate string for it.
Whenever I fly, for one hour or twenty, I always get sick. I don't know if I work too hard and my immune system is low, or if Bangkok air just has tons of shit it, or if the airlines do a poor job of cleaning the recirculated air, or what. I do know that I can count on getting sick a week into my trip. And it's always the same thing. A lung infection. I wind up going to the hospital for a prescription... every damn time.
Fuck that. Now I take my antibiotics with me and start a day or two before I leave. I take them for the whole trip. Works like a charm!
I hate overmedicating, and self-medicating scares me. But if I know I'm going to need the same drugs for the same problem, what sense is there to wait and get sick, then BE sick for a week while the drugs work? I see no point.
I come to paradise to have fun I can't have anywhere else. Anything that detracts from this experience, including being laid up in bed or coughing up chunks, just doesn't qualify as fun.
Just my opinion, in case anyone else encounters this non-essential addition to their trips to paradise with pairs of cheeks, tits and hips.
