What: Two long alleys with about 40 “shops” each. Each shop has a huge sliding glass door with up to five women sitting behind it.
Cost: Almost every store had the exact same sign quoting 70K won (about 60 USD when I was there) for FS. Fairly easy to negotiate down to 60K won, though.
Directions: Take the blue line to the Gireum station (#417). Take exit #10 and look for the curtain that’s covering an alley entrance.
Went in the middle of the week. Some stores were closed, but the ones that were open had one to five girls in these prom-type dresses sitting on mats on the floor. Each store has a mamasan, some of who are pretty aggressive. They would grab your shirt or arm or would try to block your way. There was even one place where two of them pushed me into their store and tried to close the door. Good thing it was raining so I could beat them off with my umbrella. I talked to some of the non-aggressive ones and was usually able to get them down from 70K to 60K pretty easily, but never lower.
The girls ranged from 3 – 7 and wearing so much makeup that most of them looked alike. Some of them were kinda chunky, too. But I finally found one I liked and took her. So they lead me downstairs to this room. I walk in and there's no bed. Just a table and some sitting mats. What the hell? Then the mamasan brings in some drinks and food. So I sit down w/ the girl and she pours me a beer, then pulls the top part of her dress down. She spoke very little English, but I figure out we're supposed to talk for a few minutes, then go to another room for sex. She uses up her English vocabulary pretty quickly, then she asks if I want sex and leads me to another room. Actually, it's more like a closet. About 7 feet long and 4 feet wide with a futon on the floor. I get a BBBJ, then she pulls out a condom for FS.
When you’re finished, they’ll give you this little treat. Don’t eat or drink it yet. When you’re walking back to the subway station, make sure the other mamasans can see you holding it. This is to let them know that you’re done and they won’t bother you.
Pros: Lots of women to choose from (although on average, not top notch). Lots of food stands in the alleys. Located right next to a subway station.
Cons: Aggressive mamasans. Some will turn you away if you are not Korean. May have been even worse for me, but I’m Asian-American, so they may have cut me some slack.

SFChino, they are nothing like the Korean girls in USA?
I hear the service is not too good, it it true?
Girls range from 18 and up? Not 25-35?

Unfortunately I don't have anything to compare it to in the US. Most of my experiences have been in Costa Rica and I'd rate it slightly below the average brothel experience there, if that helps.
It wasn't mechanical and she at least seemed (or pretended) to be enjoying it. It was a little bit rushed once we got to the closet room, though, but it was probably partly due to my inability to speak Korean. I'm sure YMMV.
Most of the girls seemed to be in their 20's.

In some places there are rows of juicy bars, or other places that have a high density of adult entertainment, but I don't call those 'red light' districts.

The main drag of each district is where you'll find the prettiest girls. There was a crackdown last september (2004) and shut down a lot of places. Things were shut down completely for that whole month but now things are resurging and coming back to normal.
Off the main drag you'll find the less pretty girls, slightly chubby, slightly older, or there's some other problem with them. And then down the alleyways you'll find shady ajumas (old ladies) that will try to pull you in and offer something that is much cheaper, in the 30-50$ range.

2. Miari/Texas. Gireum station. Line number 4, light blue line, about 4 stops north of dong-dae-mun, north side of seoul.
This place used to be the bomb! but now it sucks. After the crackdown the cops were lingering around trying to drive down business. I think someone bribed them to put on the pressure because of some kind of real-estate scam going on.
First I'll describe how it used to be, because maybe it'll come back to that level again.
In the good old days this was an incredibly huge red light district. It was this dense mass of closely cuddled buildings , a whole city block's worth, that had entrances covered by rubber flaps. It was like entering a carnival tent, except it covered nearly a half a square mile with thousands of girls sitting behind glass doors wearing prom dresses and wedding gowns and they would all perk up and call out to you as you walked by the endless rows to make your pick.
After you go in, you look over the girls and tell the mama-san which one you like and then head up to a room. The girl will change into something a little sexier and bring in a plate of food and drinks. Depending on what kind of service you paid for, it could just be a little fruit and a coke, or it might be a whole spread with beer and liquor. This was the kind of place you went to with a group of buddies.
But as I recall this wasn't a very foreigner friendly area. You have the option of paying for a bit of karaeoke too which can be a pretty good time before your group splits up and get's the groove on.
I think Miari took the brunt of the crackdown. With the nearby construction you can see why things are not so great there right now. But I've heard that you can still find alot of places that offer the service, it's just not out in open display anymore.

Dick cleaning with wipes before and after as well as cool water and refreshing yougurt drink given at the end. Not bad but very poor value considering the price. I have had hotter chicks for half the price in the wasteland. Once I left I was a litle sketch out as there was no one out...felt like looking over my shoulder every so many steps...not pitch dark but dark enough. Probably overly paranoid.
