Koh Lanta is a rather large set of islands southwest of Krabi Town. You can catch the 2 hour ferry from Krabi pier - twice a day I believe.
The best word to describe Koh Lanta is "peaceful". Its just enough out of the way to discourage casual tourists.
We stayed at the Royal Lanta Resort in Sandy Cove - about 15 min from the ferry. The hotels all appear to provide transport to and from the ferry, and Royal Lanta was no exception. We were met by a very energetic and cheerful Danish (or Swedish - cant recall now) lady who spoke perfect english. Besides running the shuttle service, she turned out to also be the resort manager - its that kind of place.
A variety of activities are available on Koh Lanta such as snorkling, fishing, skiiing, jungle treks with or without elephants, and quite a few others. Of course we did none of these, opting to simply enjoy the peace, quiet and amazing sandy beach.
This is definitely my favorite spot in all of Thailand so far, and I can't wait to return.
Room rates were the normal 2-3,000 thb for a deluxe air-conditioned bungalow. Royal Lanta must have been recently built - you could practically smell the fresh paint.
Here's the bungalow:

KM,
That would be her! She's actually in three of the pics.
If you can live without the excitement of soapies, beer bars and go-gos, and just want to relax with someone special, you will enjoy KL.
The only massage action I saw was a traditional thai massage place next to Royal Lanta. On the other side there are a couple of small beer joints, but no local talent was evident whatsoever.
