A friend of mine wrote the following article concerning Angeles City and the girls that work there. He has giving me permission to post it here. Read and heed - There's a lot of truth in it:

"The Illusion of Love in AC"


"AC" = Angeles City, Philippines
"PI" = Philippine Islands = Philiippines


I lived in Korea for five years, Taiwan for a short time, and Japan for 16 years and 2 days. The bar girls in these countries for the most part sold SEX.

Japan today is somewhat different because foreign boyfriends are in vogue, and you can meet non-bar girls that are looking to become your girl friend. It's much cheaper in Japan to find a non-bar girl friend than to hunt in the bars. You won't have to pay any of the non-bar chicks directly for sex, but it's still very expensive to take them out on regular dates or party in Japan.

The first time I came to the PI was in 1977. Since then I've been here 75-100 times. Here the girls sell LOVE. Most of the time it's really just the "Illusion of love". Perhaps for some of us, I should say "The Delusion of Love."

There are no girls in any country I have ever visited that can come anywhere close to the Philippinas for the quality and quantity of affection, attention and sex they provide.

Reading below you may get the impression I hate the place; that I'm totally jaded about Angeles City. That's a false impression. I love Angeles City. It's just that you have to understand the bar scene in AC and how it operates to avoid wasting a lot of your money and getting your heart broken.

"Newbies", those guys that land in AC for the first time, are particularly susceptible to the trap of "Illusion of love". The first time you arrive in AC, you really think you are in paradise. You hit the clubs and find that all, or most of the girls like you. If you ever ring the bell, you will discover you are the most wonderful guy that ever walked into that particular club.

The girls are loving, super affectionate, laugh at your jokes and just think you are the most handsome man in the world. They hold your hand, sit close to you, rub you all over, and make you believe that they are just dying to go to bed with you. They will absolutely convince you that you are just wonderful! These chicks are simply the best in the world I think, in making you believe they really like and care for you.

But stop and consider the real world for a moment. If you walk into a disco or bar and meet some women, how many of them act the same as the Philippinas in the clubs on Fields Avenue in AC? If one of the chicks in the real world truly likes you, she may be "all over you", but most of them act differently. They will not respond to you in the same manner as the AC club girls.

We tend to think that the girls exist in the bars in AC for us. They don't. They are there to make money. That's their job, to provide the best customer care they can to you. The better they do their job, the more money they will earn. If they were not making money working in the bar, they would not be there, the bar wouldn't be there and you wouldn't be in AC.

The girls work for a living just like you do, and they have a life outside the bars, families, boyfriends, girl friends, school friends and others, just like you do. (There IS a real world in AC, and you don't want to be part of it, believe me.)

Realize that when you depart the bar, often times another customer will walk in and take your place. The chick you just sat with and maybe took home last night will act the same way with the new guy as she did with you. If he wants to pay the bar fine, she will go with him, and screw him just as passionately and effectively as she screwed you.

We all delude ourselves when we believe, "This chick really likes me." Most of the time, it is just a act to exact as much cash out of the customer as possible.

The chicks at home don't fawn all over you. Do you really think the chicks in the AC bars are any different? I got a pot belly and have lost half my hair. Do I really believe some 18 year-old chick is going to fall in love with me ten minutes after I call her off the stage to talk to her? Do I really think she can't wait to get me in the hotel room and screw my brains out because I am so sexy?

Despite what should be obvious reality, quite frequently the guys fall in love, or think they do, and continue contact with that special chick after they have departed AC. They send money to support her so she won't have to work in the bar anymore. They send additional money when one of her family members becomes ill. They send money when the little sister needs it for school. It's all for a good cause - LOVE - and to keep his special chick from having to work in the bars.

Imagine the loving boyfriend's shock when he discovers his special chick has two or three other guys supporting her, sending her money every month too.

Imagine his anger when he finds out she's screwing these guys too, when he's been sending her money so no one else will poke his pussy.

Imagine his agony at his own stupidity when he finds out she never quit working in the bar; and continued to go out on bar fines after he departed AC.

"Newbies" may go months or even a year or so before they discover their special chick isn't faithful. It takes most guys several trips to AC before they begin to closely examine the real workings of the AC bars. Slowly but surely the truth sets in. After months, maybe years, they discover they are not "king stud" but just another customer with some cash. They become disillusioned, some of them to the extent they never return to the PI.

Most of the girls in the bars are not bad. There ARE a few very good hustlers in AC, but most of them are just trying to make a living. A lot of them have families to support. It's true that a lot of them throw their money away, but they aren't inherently evil (though one or two do come to mind right now).

Treating you like "king stud" is simply part of their job, to extract the maximum amount of cash out of you. If you offer to send them money after you return home, why should they turn you down?

A lot of times we assume the chick we care for, or think we care for, feels the same way about us as we do about them. Guys, just because you tell a chick you love her doesn't necessarily inspire the same feelings in her toward you.

Use your common sense. You aren't really in love with the girl after spending five days or two weeks with her. I'll bet money every time she isn't in love with your fat, hairy ass either. I'll win 95% of those bets.

If you listen closely to the girls, they will tell you the truth. Male customer to dancer: "You're a butterfly." Dancer to male customer: "I am not, it's my job." Listen up guys! The chick is telling you the bald-faced truth.

The girls do fall in love sometimes. It does happen. The problem is that the girls are so skilled in selling you the "Illusion of Love", it's very difficult to tell the difference when you find one that really does love your fat, hairy ass. It takes time and usually a risk of some of your capital to determine if the girl really does love you.

When you discover the phenomenon known as the "Illusion of Love", don't let it push you into "bar burnout", where you don't feel like going to the bars anymore. Don't get upset or disillusioned when you finally realize you aren't the "king stud" of Fields Avenue. Remember, the girls are selling a commodity. Accept it for what it is, enjoy it, and have a great time in AC.

Thanks, Progman, for posting your friend's report. This kind of thing cannot be over-stated (or over-posted). Sex workers everywhere do the same thing (well, mostly). It's too bad the girls in Mexico aren't as good at it. I love the "fantasy girlfriend" concept, yet am not fooled by it. (Well, I was the first time, sort of). There's also a novel avaliable only on the Internet. It's called "Private Dancer", by Stephen Leather. It's free (about 600K PDF file). if you get a chance download it and read it. It's fiction, but based on how bar girls operate in Asia (Thailand and Philippines). I couldn't put it down and read the whole thing in one night (about 200 pages)... (prog)

BTW - If you caculate how much a week in Mexico would cost you believe or not it's cheaper to go to the PI. The barfine for a girl for ALL NIGHT is only 1000 pesos ($19 USD). You'll NEVER find that in Mexico...

You need to be careful when trying to "play the game" with these girls. Remember they have YEARS of experience on you!! Also, they have friends EVERYWHERE in town!!

If you want a good time (a REALLY good time) with one of these girls just start talking to them. It's just like when someone walks into AB or CC, sees a hot woman and starts talking money. What kind of session is he gonna get? The same applies when traveling east. If you get a good vibe from the girl, she'll be fun for you. Just like TJ - if you take your time to interview the girl you can be reasonably assured of a decent time!! Worst case scenario you don't like her and you kick her out. Go back to mamasan and get your money back (as long as you didn't bang her).

Don't be afraid to kick a few hotties to the curb if you don't like their attitude. The city is FILLED with them!! TJ has a handful of bars filled with women while AC has far more!! If you don't like her attitude her friend will do just fine!!

If you find a girl that you just can't live without you can steady barfine her. You pay the bar a chunk of money to let her out w/o any other barfine due the club (still pay the girl something) whenever you are in town. This is a good deal if you're going to be in town a while and you find a girl you can't live without. If you're just going to be there a week or so you might as well just pay the barfine everynight. The steady barfine is only effective if she still works at the same bar. If she hops bars (or her mamasan moves the whole stable to another location) you gotta pony up again. Suddenly not such a good deal...

If the girl really likes you she'll figure out a way to spend time with you. They will do sneakouts (come over to see you after work for free) or take time off work to just be with you.

Whatever you do DON'T TELL HER YOU LOVE HER!!!! If you say that, and word gets around that you've been a butterfly (and trust me, word WILL get around) then you'll get stinkeye and be shutdown wherever her friends have pull. None (or few) of her friends will have anything to do with you and those girls can make things uncomfortable for you in a bar if they want to!!

Just pay your money and bang the girls. Trust me, it's just easier that way!! If SHE offeres to come over free, that's another story. However, don't go looking for it and don't use the "L" word!!

I will always "play the game" better than these youngsters. I was banging and juggling 5 girls at a time in a restaurant before half these girls were born...and I'm only 37. Just go there and have fun. The pussy is sooOOOOOOoo cheap there's no reason to look for a value!! You can get some short times (ST) with girls for P300-400 in high season and P150-200 in low season. How much cheaper can the pussy be? Just to remind you the conversion rate is P50 to $1. Yeah - ST for $3 to $4!! Why try to play games with them. Be generous - it's one of the few times you actually CAN throw money around like a player because it's so easy to!!

The amount of beautiful girls in AC will blow your mind (no pun intended). Epimetheus was right when he said you could always kick them to the street if it doesn't work out. I did that on my last trip. I pulled a 10+ out of Blue Nile. The evening lasted 30 minutes, then I sent her home because there was too much bullshit with her and her cellphone. She was in tears by the time I got her halfway to her bar. I left her in the middle of fields Ave (in the rain), then went back and grabbed a regular. The regular girl definitely showed her appreciation later that night. Oh my god did she have a looooong tongue!

I haven't seen your handle before so I guess I should welcome you to ClubHombre. I'd like to clear up a few things with you -

First: My handle is "PROGMAN", not "PROBMAN".

Second: This article was NOT written from a cynical point of view but rather for a single purpose: to enlighten guys on how things operate in that town "as a norm". Once you realize this you can have a fun time without getting trapped in the Illusion... Many of my monger friends have followed the guide set forth in that article and have come to love the town. The girl's know where we're coming from and the bola-bola is reduced significantly.

Third: You make a comment about the girls helping out in regards to trike, jeep costs, etc... These girls may be bar-smart but a huge majority of them can't manage their money or haggle if their life depended on it. If you've gone to AC as many times as I have you'd see that right away. The main reason the trike fares are so expensive is the girls just don't know how to bargin with vendors, trike drivers, or other merchants.

Anyway, I'm glad you've found non-bargirls to keep you company. I prefer the bargirls because I can then keep the relationship within the confines of a financial transaction. There's less bullshit to deal with... (prog)

Prog, I've got to agree 100% with the comment you made about the girls not being able to haggle. Whether they cannot or will not is still a mystery to me, but I have found out it is better to leave the girl out of it and haggle youself. You will come out better and besides it's not her money. I have also found out that most of the girls are not tour guides. Do your own research for travel outside of AC and do not depend on your girl to get you where you're going. You will almost always end up lost if you do. Get a good map and good directions and be in charge. Your girl has probably never been out of her province except for the bus to AC. If you must ask directions, do not assume anyone else knows. I have been given the wrong directions by filipinos who didn't know the directions but did not want to "lose face" by not knowing their own country.

I have dated bar girls and non-bar girls and I find the bar girls tend to be more fun and you get what you pay for most times. Most are experienced and are good at what they do. Most have gone well past the learning curve. If she does not live up to your expectations, you can find a different one without wasting alot of time. Most of us want to make the most of our limited time in the Philippines and you can get right to the point with a bar girl. A non-bar girl may take alot more pampering and you still may not get laid.

Progman, Archie, for sure the bargirls are at about an 8th or 9th grade mentality. I take their advice with a grain of rice. The bargirls are there for fun. Sure they live there, but don't get them out of their element, that is: off their knees or backs ;>)

I found that it depends on the girl as to whether she can haggle worth a damn. Remember Scooter arranging trikes for us to go to Honeykos? He got the guys down to P30 for the ride. I thought that was pretty good!! Later that same trip I saw Connie get a FAR LONGER ride down to P20. Also, Sami was WICKED with the locals!! She could hammer a trike down to next to nothing...

If the girl's got a brain and is a bit older, then yes they have some idea of how to NOT be taken like a sucker. Whether she'll help you... that's another story. Might be her boyfriend's trike!!
