Located on the T-intersection of Fields Ave and A. Santos Street, across from Volcano Bar. Kokomo's is very similar to Margarita Station in that it offers food, drinks, pool, Internet services, etc. Most of the food is average at best (IMHO) but the pizza is pretty darn good, especially at 2:00 AM in the morning. Kokomo's is own by the Kokomo group, which owns several bars in Angeles City. They also sponsor several Wet T-shirts contests every year... (prog)

Kokomo's shwarma sandwich is great!!! Who'd ever guess that a Middle Eastern sandwich would taste this good (pretty authentic too) in a small dusty little shithole of a Philippine's town run mostly by Aussies. It just goes to show you--you never know.

I agree w/ Progman, Kokomo's pizza is pretty good. The best pizza probably is at Salvatore's Italian Restaurant right up Field's Avenue. Sunset Gardens Hotel restaurant makes a pretty mean pizza too. And then there's Domino's Pizza, where you can get a filled to the gills Large Pie for about $6 US. Great deal.

Another good restaurant deal is in the restaurant/pub that is in the same hotel as Misty's Bar (I believe it's the Tropicana Hotel?), but I can't remember the restaurant's name. They have a good all you can eat lunch w/ carved roast beef, some good standard Filipino food. Very hearty for around $3-4 US.

Good daily special with free iced tea jar. The shwama sandwich is what some would call an "gyro", its a daily special that comes with fries and iced tea for less than $2 US.

Oh, but overall, go to Margarita Station for better food and service. Once I had to get Gladys the supervisor to fix my order! Except for a waitress named "Sel", the help is not there mentally.

This restaurant has turned into a go go bar from reports that I have read. Do not know the quality of the ladies but imagine it's the same as the rest of them.

By N8guy on Monday, October 21, 2002 - 08:22 am:  Edit

Go-go bar? This place had such good food and was just a relaxing place to hang out. Too bad it had to be turned into a bar.

could you be mistaken because their are quite a few wet-t shirt contests there.

By Archie29621 on Monday, October 21, 2002 - 03:10 pm:  Edit

I am pretty sure that it is a go go bar now(albeit one without air conditioning.) You can check www.kokomoz.com or the Ac2 board or www.theville.com I will give a report during or after my November trip to AC.

By Progman on Tuesday, October 22, 2002 - 09:13 am:  Edit

Archie is correct. It is a bar now. Still a fun place to hang out. They're still having wet t-shirts contests. Those events occur by the pool, not inside.

The only drawback to this place is that it is too damn hot to sit out in the balcony. The food is excellent and the prices reasonable. I will eat here more often next time.

Have heard a bit about this place, but there was no thread here. I understand that it's part of the restaurant complex and has a pool and is cheaper than the Orchid Inn. Any of you vets know more about this place? As always, TIA --

Porker.

Now it's a restaurant and hotel, no dancers. I guess they can't make up their mind.

Porker, Bigballs, and a couple others I met stayed here. There are several rooms inside, and several rooms overlooking the pool.

Pros were cheap price, 24hr restaurant downstairs, computer terminals and safe in the room, and location.

Cons were small rooms, no phones, and noise.

Another con, maybe unique to certain people like me, was mosquitos in my room. I had a slight problem with mosquito bites in Angeles and they all seemed to occur while in my room in Kokomos.

Despite the cons, I really enjoyed my stay at Kokomos due to the pros.

Stayed there for 20 days in July 2003. Rate is 1250 peso a night, includes "free breakfast". 10% off for gotophil.com members. Actually they give you a 180 peso allowance towards anything on their menu. Most entrees are under 180 peso, so you can get pretty much anything, not just breakfast, something different everyday for 20 days, a good deal. Computers with high speed access in every room. Located on the corner of Santos and Fields Ave, right in the heart of the action. The nightly rate is a bit higher than perimeter hotels, but I figure between saving trike fees (50 peso each way), internet fees (50-100 peso a day), free meal (very decent food valued at 180 peso), and the ten percent discount, the real cost of staying here was only 800 peso, making it the same or cheaper than perimeter places, and the best deal available considering it's "heart of the action" location.

Rooms are barely a year old, so still in good condition. Good size room, big bed, nice shower (big enough for 4!), desk, wardrobe, small couch, in room safe (not very secure but usable), wall mounted fan, all make for a comfortable room.

Noise is the main drawback. I stayed in room 1 my first night, and the street noise was unbearable. I switched to a room over the pool and that was much better. Had the nightly seranade from Midnight cowboy, but it was bearable.

There is a signifigant "walk of shame" through the lobby and restaurant area to get to the room, for those who worry about such things.

Restaurant open 24 hrs.

I loved waking up in the morning, saying a tearful goodbye (yea right!) to my evening's companion, having a leisurely breakfast/brunch around 10am, then walk one block down Santos St. for a late morning BJ for 500 pesos.

If you can tolerate the noise and walk of shame, I'd say that next to the Orchid Inn, it's the best place to stay in AC.

bye

To me the location is excellent and the internet is a plus but the rooms remind me of mid-level TJ rooms as they are very sparse and just look very drab...like nice prison rooms. The noise level is crazy there as well and you might not be able to switch rooms as there are few rooms and the place is usually booked.

By Blazers on Monday, October 13, 2003 - 05:39 pm:  Edit

BTW, who is the chick in the pool..what bar...nice shot, looks like she is twistin her nips for the camera.

Mrking, great to see your post here, welcome to clubhombre! Excellent review of Kokomos hotel (great pics too), and I would agree with everything you said. I had a small problem with the air conditioning in one of the rooms there (room 8, above the bar), but it seemed fine in the other rooms. There was also a bog problem with water pressure (like NO WATER) in the shower after the power went out, but I was assured that this would be dealt with by an upgrade from the city water dept. that was due to be done soon after I left the hotel.

Blazers, the rooms are actually quite decent, not sure what you're looking for. They're not as big or as nice as the big rooms at the Apartelle Royal, but for the price, not sure what's available that's any better in AC. The value is EXCELLENT at 1250 pesos for the room, as Mrking detailed above. Another important thing is that there are in room safes in all rooms.

By Mrking on Tuesday, October 14, 2003 - 07:09 am:  Edit

Don't the girl in the pool, the pic was taken through the window of my room, voyeur style. Seeing girls in bikinis and sometimes less was a nice bene of staying in a room over the pool. The Kokomoz pool is pretty private compared to other hotel pools, so I think the girls may feel a bit more comfortable "taking it off".

How do you make a reservation at this place by email. I tried everything I know which isn't much and could not get to a reservation area on the internet. Any help would be appreciated. I will be returning to the states on January 31, 2004, and want to stop in PI /AC on the way back.

You can send an email to actiontravel@kokomoz.com or visit them at http://www.kokomoz.com/reservations.htm

In either case you should give them about 4 days to reply. They're not very efficient.

I sent a request for a room in this hotel but could not tell if it went through or not. I would like to stay here but they have very few rooms and it seems that they are always full. I will be going to Angeles City on 01/31/04 and will need a hotel close to the action. Any help wil be appreciated.

These are the rooms Porker and I received. They were right next to each other above the restaurant.

From Asia: Philippines: Angeles City: Porker's Guide to Angeles City Hotels

KOKOMOZ (the MO-tel): Kokomoz Hotel is an excellent budget-friendly option for a hotel stay for the AC visitor who wants to be dead smack in the MIDDLE of the Fields bar action. While the rooms are decent, the lively atmosphere of Kokomoz restaurant/bar is also an attraction, as you are right in the middle of one of the liveliest places in AC as soon as you walk down the stairs, with friendly, smiling waitresses flitting about, people playing pool, punters dining with their rent a-dates, the odd freelancer lifting eyebrows in your direction - fun stuff. While the swimming pool action never seems to be as lively as at the Orchid (too many locals and kids during the daytime), the pool is decent-sized and clean. The prices for rooms at Kokomoz is pretty reasonable, but I'd say the better value would be the inside rooms at 1250 pesos rather than the slightly larger rooms above the pool for 1500.

The rooms at Kokomoz are not generally large, but quite a bit larger than the standard rooms at the Orchid. The size and furnishings of the rooms can vary, as there don't seem to be any rooms that are exactly alike. Some rooms will have actual sitting areas with a sofa and a coffee table, others you bump the corner of the fridge as you walk past the bed to the bathroom.

All MO-tel rooms have in-room safes, cable TV (with US Armed Forces Network feeds for LIVE American sporting events - completely unique in Angeles), an actual COMPUTER with fast internet connection, mini-fridge with the usual mini-bar items for sale. The bathrooms are average sized and could use more shelf space. Air conditioning is quiet, but is one of many things at the MO-tel with varying quality depending on the room that you're in.

Strengths: Location, location, location. In room safe, AFN American sports on TV, COMPUTER with internet access, Kokomoz restaurant/bar service downstairs, pool, friendly staff, good maid service. Value for the price you pay.

Weaknesses: Rooms can be hot, air-conditioning needs a turbo boost despite the fact that it can be left on 24x7. Can be significant noise coming from various directions depending on which room you have - not recommended for extremely light sleepers. No front desk/room phone/way to screen visitors, anyone can knock on your door at any time of day or night.

Snafus: Brownouts can wreak havoc with the rooms/air-con, and there was a SEVERE problem with water pressure in interior rooms in summer of '03 for many hours after a brownout. Don't ASSUME you're getting any free food included in the price of your room despite what you might read on various websites or what your experience has been on previous stays. Air-con has leaked in two separate rooms on two separate stays resulting in puddles on the floor. Tile floor gets grimy several hours after the maids clean. Mosquitoes seem to be more of a noticeable problem at the MO-tel than in other places in AC.

Grade for Kokomoz rooms: Room quality: B Overall including amenities: A- (unique amenities are AFN sports and computer) Value: 1250 peso rooms: A (would be A+ if they still had meal comp) 1500 peso rooms: B+ (Value presumes no Go2Phil discount, which can be significant for a long stay)

Recommendation: Kokomoz hotel is an excellent value option for those that want to be completely immersed in the Fields Avenue bar scene. There seem to be more 3rd world type problems than in other hotel options, but for the money, you do pretty well for yourself, especially if you're not toting a laptop with you and need to spend ANY sort of time each day on the internet.

By Porker on Thursday, May 12, 2005 - 05:00 am:  Edit

I stayed at Kokomoz last week for a couple of nights, and while I always have a good time there, I'm not sure if I'd recommend the place anymore. The benefits are still the in-room safe and the computer in the room, plus it does have the pool downstairs (although the pool is open to the public from 11-4 every day). But the A/C is extremely weak and the noise is just unbelievable these days, and in my room (room 4) I was getting it bleeding up from the bar/restaurant downstairs AND the from street and Midnight Rodeo outside.

They also have a live band playing Friday-Sunday nights, so you will have ZERO peace or quiet until after 2 AM on any of those nights.

The free food option is long since gone, now you get a 15% discount if you're a hotel guest if you remember to ask for it. Of course the price had now gone up to 1500 pesos for all rooms except the small ones located inside above the bar, which are still 1250.

But possibly the worst thing for me was that the springs on the mattress were KILLING my knees! I'll take a solid piece of foam any day over THAT!

By Don Marco on Thursday, May 12, 2005 - 06:57 am:  Edit

foam-- for some reason I get sore hips and ass when sleeping on foam in SEA. Now sure why. I thought I was the only one until I think it was Ahora bitching to me about sore hips one day and his matress. And I ain't talking a little pain, I'm talking the kind that makes it impossible to be comfortable anytime.

For the edification of folks who have never been there, I ain't talking NASA memory foam as you could guess.

By Porker on Friday, May 13, 2005 - 01:07 am:  Edit

Hahaha, DM, those sound like '2 much boom2 talaga' injuries to me! Hmmm, well, except when you say that Ahora had them too. Re: him bitching, that only happens on days that end in Y. The prime example THIS trip was when he was itemizing the bacon strips on his plate at breakfast and concluding that he was somehow one short. Don't'cha just HATE IT when that happens? :-)

At least he was wearing pants though! :-) :-) :-)

By Don Marco on Friday, May 13, 2005 - 10:12 am:  Edit

LOL! Could be, I make sure I limber up in the mornings with a little stretchin' and take a few aspirin just to be safe. When the hip pain does occur, it make powerful thrusts mighty impossible! Sucks.

Take one of his bacon strips and danza slap him with it! ROTFL!

By Epimetheus on Saturday, May 14, 2005 - 12:22 am:  Edit

If the bacon doesn't work you could always Danza Slap him with that Goat Dick he tried to eat back in February. Hmmm - got that pic around here somewhere...

This turned out to be a great meeting point. The ATM here was a daily stop when it worked. Breakfast was mostly what I enjoyed here. Get a slip from the cashier window to use the free internet. Its a great perch as night falls and all the neon bar lights come on.

By Tujunga on Saturday, December 31, 2005 - 02:28 am:  Edit

I stayed here recently, reasoning that 1) It's right in the center of things, 2) I eat here all the time anyway, 3) there's a pool, and possibly a pool party, 4) I won't have to bring a laptop.

Wish I'd brought the laptop and booked RA, CP or SC.

Had to get them to pull the A/C unit to fix it, just like last time.

Had to get them to pull the computer to fix it.

Never got adequate Internet speed/bandwidth to be able to use VoIP phone.

Shower worked only intermittently, unpredictably, and even then with barely adequate pressure. Despite repeated assurances that "It's fixed now," it never was.

Finally gave up and moved out - didn't come to Angeles to hassle with basic amenities.

By Porker on Thursday, February 01, 2007 - 05:02 pm:  Edit

There is now a sports bar where Voodoo used to be inside Kokomoz, and they actually really do show sports events. It was the only place in AC that had the NCAA national championship game on in January, and I think they're back to getting the Armed Forces Network feeds of US sports.

By Porker on Thursday, February 01, 2007 - 05:09 pm:  Edit

And re: the food here, I swear that Kokomoz has perfectly cloned McDonald's french fries.

By Sandman on Friday, February 02, 2007 - 05:35 am:  Edit

Where di Vodoo move to? Or did thy just close?

By Porker on Friday, February 02, 2007 - 01:40 pm:  Edit

Voodoo got raided twice within a couple weeks several months back and closed. The girls were all shifted to ZiggyPops which apparently has now been sold as Mo cashed out.

By Sandman on Saturday, February 03, 2007 - 05:58 am:  Edit

Mo had like 5 bars or something like that. he sold all of them?

Too bad about Vodoo. I had a sweetie there. I am sure she has popped up elsewhere.

Thanks for the update.
