I was just there. The heat is over. My only concern is that Bush will be there in a couple of weeks and they might want to do some cosmetic closures of the bars. Mr. Bush is in a military family and knows full well the history between the U.S> military and LBFM's, so attempting a makeshift cleaneup will only point out the obvious even more and insult his intelligence. Right now there are no girls who can work in the bars unless they have wisdom teeth. That is the new parameter for determining whether the girls are of age. Unless you know the girl already, freelancers should be avoided for a while as many are underaged girls. Stick with the bars and you should be OK.

I went to PI a few years back and had a very bad experience, but I did like the girls better than those in BKK even though I go to BKK every year. I wonder if there are any hotels close to the night life that run from $20 to 25$. Are the safe deposit boxes safe. I have heard stories about them. Can you fly from Manila to Angeles now and how do you make the arrangements. If you can't fly what is the best way to get to Angeles. I will be leaving BKK in january 04 and am planning to try PI again. Does anyone have any info on Subic Bay and is it a good place to go. How are hotel prices there. Thanks for you help.

However stupid it may seem, I get attached to some of the music you hear in the clubs in AC.
In particular, there is this song they play that there are very few words to that I can't get out of my mind. However, I can't seem to find in US.
One of the girls I keep in contact with asked the DJ what the song was and who was the artist. I have checked everywhere and cannot find it. Any suggestions? I won't be getting back to PI until May. Finding this cd would help the craving. The song is "I feel it tonight" by triple x. Anybody heard of this or know where I can order in the US? It has this repiticious "bong bong". So are any of you going to be in AC around Thanksgiving? That was time I was hoping to go back, but I am still uncertain because of work issues, etc. The plan was for a Thanksgiving AC trip and a Christmas Sing/Batam trip. Figure Christmas is a bad time to monger in a Catholic nation.

I look back very fondly on my recent AC trip, much more so than my previous one last year. And I think it was because I had such a blast hanging out with the group. Good times...

Can't make it Labor Day weekend. I was originally planning a trip to Colombia during that time, but that got sidetracked by a $294 RT deal to Costa Rica. That was too good to pass up.

DM is right. I do kind of float in and out. I guess it is an internal compromise I make with myself regarding "going off and doing my own thing" like I am use to and having a blast hanging out with the guys.

Getting a crew of mongers together is always like herding cats anyhow, and usually about as successful...

I thought Xen hung in there pretty good in AC- contrary to Pattaya where he had his whole weeks schedule lined up it seemed. Now that I think of it it was two sisters who pretty much kept him included in the group. If he had not met them we may never have seen him.

My first AC trip it was Xen, Epi an I . It turned out more like me and Epi. Xen had his own flock to tend to- Sorta like Merlin on this last trip !

Hey, I would have liked to spend more time hanging out with the famous Merlin in AC. But I got to meet him and watch as he paraded around his harem, so that was cool, too. I almost felt like he was the cool and famous rock star and I was the teenaged groupie.

hey mongers, im planning my rookie trip to AC late this year or early next year. however i noticed a recent posting by mongerx, which mentioned an exchange rate of 32.5:1 in AC. I thought it was more like 50:1. can someone confirm? Also, is there any advise against going to AC between november and feb?-Thanks

The exchange rate is right around 54-1 USD to the Ph. peso right now. ANYTIME is a good time to go to AC, but November-February means it won't be brutally hot during the daytime, which is a GOOD thing.

MongerX doesn't exchange USD, but rather funny money from another Asian country, which might account for the number you saw in his report.

I was told by my bar fine that there is a Angeles City ordnance that makes giving a minor money a crime. She said parents are using there children to beg for money which will be used for drugs therefore if seen giving money to these beggar children you can be arrested.

Can anyone confirm or deny the existence of this city law as a precaution for mongers.

I cant confirm the existence of this law, but I can tell you that the law enforcement over there is very much corrupt. There have been scams where the officers detain or arrest a foreigner for some odd reason and won't let them go until a "fine" is paid. Usually in cash right to the officers.

Always remember that you are in a country where poverty is the rule more than the exception. Scams are commonplace and its a good idea to take a cautious approach.

Use common sense, stick to the routine and you'll be fine. If anyone approaches you with anything, its a good idea just to ignore them and keep walking.

AC won't shut down, don't worry. Would advise booking hotel at least 2 months in advance, however, as there are lots of dudes there during the holidays.

Hey guys, cherry trip coming in just a month. After much research and an unexpected kick to the wallet here at home, I have decided to abandon my initial big spender plan and go cheaper. Dropping what I planned Pacific Breeze to include two days poolside jacuzzi is out along with some pricey flying side trips.
17 nights: 1 MNL, 12 AC, 3 Subic, 1 Tokyo
-Flight from JFK to include one night hotel in Tokyo on the way out $1055
-Trains and airport buses to JFK and back $40
-First night in MNL due to late flight (10pm) staying at Copacabana $50. Taxi to hotel $5(?) Food, a couple beers at EDSA, barfine, tip, and hotel breakfast $80(?)
-Taxi/Car MNL-AC and AC-MNL $100
-12 days at a close perimeter budget hotel with a pool and resturant in the $25-$35 a night range
-Three nights in a deluxe room at Blue Rock (or similar) in Subic for a change of scene. $40 a night
-Daily AC / Subic budget of $70 for food, drink, barfines, trikes, and tips. Figuring high on this I think
-Evening regular bar meet up in Tokyo with old buddy $50 ?

Grand total: around $3000

any opinions? am I overlooking something big?

I would throw some cash in for a cell phone, sim card, and phone credits.

I would suggest you stay at the Sunset Garden Hotel on Perimeter. For your long stay I think you will get a price of 1000 pesos of $20 a night. IMHO one of the best pool area in AC, and has a very tropical feel in the pool landscaping nipa hut bar and restaurant.

I think $70 a day is going to be a bit tight. I assume that you are only going to barfine one LT a day with that budget. Think about 1500-1700 pesos for barfine and tip. Plus you will drop and additional 150 (Perimeter Bar) to 300 pesos (Fields) for one customer drink and a single LD. That's already half your daily budget. If you are going to do a lot of banging on that budget, then you better put your cellphone to use. Collect lots of numbers (don't be shy chatting up girls) and start texting for ST's and Sneak outs. You can pay 300-500 for ST and 1000 for LT that way. Plus you can do it from the lounge chair poolside at Sunset Gardens drinking the much cheaper than you find in the GoGo drinks. Trust me that cheapie cell phone will pay for itself.

Yeah, I forgot about the cell phone. Likely will just follow some advice and buy a cheap used one in AC. Your girl advice seems right on the money. Also I am not crazy or dumb enough to prowl Santos for bargins. Plan to stick to bargirls.

Sunset Gardens gets good reviews in other places and was one of the three or four I was looking at. It has a freaking diving board which excites the 8 year old in me.

On further thought, dump Manila and go straight to AC. Prehaps go hardcore and spend first night at one of the cheap go-go bar hotels like Limited Edition at 900 or L Tino's (Insomnia) at 1,150 Just grab shower, a quick bite, and a pillow from the bar.

I can also shave a bit taking the bus back to MNL. As far as going, I guess cab is the way to get in with my 10 pm flight and I am assuming $50 holds up although I may have to argue a bit. Arranging a pick-up sounds like just extra hassle and none to little savings, besides I am not shy with cabbies. Just packing in a carry on, so hoping to make AC by 1 am.

This all may make for a better trip report in the end. Might title it "Keeper's Kheap Kherry trip to AC / Subic"

What's wrong with Santos? Other than it's a fraction of the size it was two years ago and that ST prices went up to to 600 pesos. Many of the best bar girl is AC get there start outon blow row.

Don't put to much stock into what the lemmings of Fields say. The Santos bars are a 30 second walk off Fields Ave. Take a walk and make up your own mind.

With your tight budget I would think Santos and Perimeter would be your freinds much more so than Fields. If you are going to eat, drink, and take girls from Fields your $70 a day will go real fast.

I'd have to agree that $70/day is pretty optimistic if you're planning on spending any time in the bars and buying many drinks. I can spend 2x that if I'm partying it up.

But then again - you can spend a whole evening at the videoke shacks behind the fields bars (with your barfine) for no more than a few bucks - and your barfine will probably have a grand old time - pinays do love videoke...

As for your arrival plans - staying in Manila that first night would make for a much more leisurely first night. But if you prefer you can probably be in Angeles by 1AM. Not a problem in that town. There will still be PLENTY of company to be found. Things don't really begin winding down around Angeles until 3AM or so (and the Dollhouse is open 24/7).

The only gotcha with grabbing just any old Manila cabbie to take you to Angeles - even if they agree to take you to Angeles, they may not know their way around there. (That is the one big advantage of the hotel pickup.) I had to direct my cabbie to my hotel the other night. First trip - I'd suggest the hotel pickup option. Pricey, but quick and painless. And it sounds like you want to get to your hotel ASAP after arrival.

Yes - get a cell phone! FYI - my Calfornia T-Mobile Phone worked perfectly there - no problems. Expensive yes, but no hassle with renting.

All you have to do is buy a PI SIM card for 400 pesos and 300 peso load should last the whole trip - I don't consider that expensive. I use my T Mobile phone with a PI SIM all the time.

Beeline travel is OK for hotel bookings IF you call them or drop by their office, but they are really, REALLY bad about responding to email inquiries. You don't need them, actually, just go to balibago.com and they have the hotel contact info all in one place for you. The rate information was pretty dated last time I checked, though. Figure on a 20% increase on just about all their rates.

I'll say it one more time: If it's your first trip to AC you should be staying at Central Park. The rooms aren't luxrious, but it's a very good value now that you can swim for free at the new Pacific Breeze (one block away). If you stay at a slightly cheaper hotel out in the Perimeter boonies, you're gonna miss the show in AC, which even the hardest core Perimeter pimps will admit is still on Fields Avenue.

Hey Porker, hope you had a grand time in PI. Central Park was booked up when I made the downsizing decision this week. New plan is to stay at Kokomo's first night, then reserved at Sunset Gardens for 15 nights. Likely taking a break during that time to Subic which I will decide on once there.

Question: Anyone been to Iba? Sunset Gardens has a sister hotel and shuttle there a couple hours away. Is their a go-go scene or is it a place I need to bring my own entertainment? Looking for a cheap break from AC for a couple days.

Kinda sucks I am trying to go on the cheap, year starting off with now two financial hits. I have a firm self control over tapping into retirement, emergency funds, or carrying credit card debt for partying cash. But hell, could make my report more fun in pinching some pesos.

Keeper, as it's going to be your first impression of Angeles - if you have a Pacific Breeze reservation for that first night, I'd go with that instead of Kokomoz. At least from the outside, the "hotel" facilities at Mo's look like a dump, and the noise has got to be atrocious. I believe Blazers once described them as "like nice prison rooms."

I second Phoenix guy's suggestion. DO NOT stay at Mo's !! The only downer would be going from Pac Breeze to Sunset "Gardens" .

I guess if you stayed one night at Mo's it would be like a breath of fresh air to be at SG . SG would seem like 5 star luxury .

Heheheh, I always have slept well in jails, even one that did not have mattresses or pads. Ended up a night in a cold room with a scattering of steel metal grate 'beds' reeking of piss. Unexotic locale of Des Moines, Iowa. Got nabbed on an assault charge that eventualley got dismissed after slamming a guy into a pay phone in veiw of cops that came to the bar to break up an unrelated rucus. Being a little mouthy did not help either. (I have mellowed and/or gotten smarter with age)
I got my Mo's reservation confirmed for the first night and getting picked up by a Beeline car.
Looks like it fits my bill for a place to crash, shower, get some food, and bring back a pillow from one of the bars with minimal logistics on the late arrival. Noise tends not to bother me. Head to Sunset Gardens in the morning. Planning to hit a drugstore for toiletries on the way and get a cheapo basic cell phone.

One of my first trips to Pattaya I had to stay at the White Rose (sp), which was roach infested plus so reeking of fumigation I got headaches. I would like to know if there is a shuttle that goes to fields from the Clark airport and if so, how much does it cost? I am arriving on July 11th at 11:15am at Clark. I will be staying at Central Park hotel. They charge 300 pesos for a pickup, but since I do not have much luggage, I was wondering if there is a less expensive option.

It has been several months since my last visit, but when there they Airport Taxis were charging a fixed 200 pesos rate into Fields Ave.

It's been about 2 years since my last trip to Manila and AC. Can someone tell me what's the going rate for BF, LT and ST in AC? What should I expect?

If you want a decent hotel room located in a central area your looking at $50 and up. I saw some rooms going for over a $100 a night. The barfines are 1350 pesos now. The exchange rate is at 40 pesos to the dollar.

While this pricing is still good when compared to other destinations, its a far cry when I went some years back where you could get the best room in the place for $30-40 a night and bring home a woman all night for about $25 to include tip and a sit-down dinner.

Airfare has also gotten more expensive as well.

My last trip it was 56 pesos to the dollar.

Rooms are available at Central Park for $32, smack dab in the middle of the action and all you'll need for a hotel.

I have never stayed there. But unless you stay in the new jasmine wing it does not stack up. The place is old.

For me, paying over $50 a night for hotel room in a AC is a bit much. I pay around that in Jakarta and stay at four star hotel.

I would say Amsterdam or Swiss Chalet myself.

If you need a pool, then probably Pacific Breeze. Never stayed there, but toured it at 95% complete. It is nice and I think their cheapest room is $48. Dollhouse rooms are tiny and waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay overpriced. It you like over decorated closets then that place is nice.

Lewis Grand looks nice, but too much if ya ask me and too far from the action, even with their free rides. I like to step out of the hotel and be right by 20-40 bars.

Smart used to be better but it's about same same now in terms of service. The majority of girls and mongers still seem to use smart. Either will work just fine in the major cities. Out in the probens one or the other may have better coverage .

I definitely think the provider choice is a toss up now. My GF uses Globe in Leyte - her probens- as Smart has poor service there. She uses Smart in AC. Why ?? Becsuse she does. Filipina logic.

I used to use Globe but changed to Smart several trips ago. Maybe it was coincidence but I experienced three outages with Globe each one lasting about half a day and the third one a full day. These are outages that I noticed during the day so there could have been others during the night that I was not aware of. Since switching to Smart there have not been any outages so far. BTW, the time that I was on Globe I almost lost an opportunity to get a non working girl that I was trying to seduce. She thought I was ignorning her text when in fact I did not receive her text.

Hey Metal, give my regards to the 'city of angels'. It is my kind of town.

A friend of mine sent me this, I am not sure where he found it, but I figured all you seasoned veterans might know who wrote it or where it came from, happy reading:

I am 47 years old and in good health. I'm not struggling with a mid-life crisis. Everything is, or was, going well for me. I was satisfied with my life. I was happy and content, or I thought I was. So what the hell happened to me?

I have a good job. I was satisfied with it. I have a great wife, we almost never argue. We have two fine children, a boy and a girl, both in college. I make good money with cash in the bank. We have a nice house and a summer place on the beach. Even the pets, two cats and a dog, get along well together.

I went fishing to Canada once a year with my buddies, played tennis almost every weekend, golfed occasionally, movies with the family sometimes, cards with other couples once in a while, poker with the boys a couple of times a month, a night out with the guys once every blue moon, and sex with the wife once every two weeks or so.

Now I don't give a damn about my current life. So what could have possibly turned my world upside-down? I went to Angeles City in the Philippines.

My downfall started several years ago when the three friends I go fishing with to Canada every year decided instead to go to Angeles City. They said they'd heard the streets were lined with sexy, young, and beautiful women, that all you had to do was show up with some cash in your pocket.

I'd heard those stories about other places in the world but I discounted them. I told them that was just a tall tale, but they insisted they were going. I couldn't persuade them to change their minds. They attempted to convince me to go also but I wasn't interested.

Their first trip was June 2001. They left grown men and returned little kids. They walked around most of the time with silly grins on their faces, and acted like they had a big secret they were just itching to tell everyone but couldn't. When they were alone with the other guys, all they talked about was Angeles City. They told the wildest stories I'd ever heard. I quite frankly thought they had lost their minds, relating outrageous tales that couldn't possibly be true.

One night my wife asked me if I had noticed anything different about my friends. When I told her I hadn't, she said that my friends' wives, all friends of hers, had told her their husbands had been acting a little strange ever since they returned from the last fishing trip.

I had lied to her. Of course I knew why they had been behaving strangely. The Philippines had done it to them. My friends were ten years old again, always carrying that goofy grin on their faces. I couldn't understand how one trip to that place could cause so many changes in them.

They went the next year too, in June 2002. This time they returned with photographs. They had shots with two or three girls in the pool at their hotel, in restaurants, even in their rooms. The girls were gorgeous, sexy and young. They weren't lying about that.

Those photographs were their prized possession. They would excitedly jab a finger at one of the pictures and their voices would jump an octave while they related one of their stories. It was really strange behaviour for normally mature men in their forties.

They described sex acts with those girls that I had only dreamed about, things that I couldn't even mention to my wife. She would have left me instantly if I had even remotely suggested it might be fun to have a threesome with another female. I can just about guarantee you those kinds of subjects are never broached with a white, middle-class, Baptist wife.

Despite their photos, the vivid descriptions and graphic details of their latest adventures, I didn't entirely believe their stories. I told them those things just don't happen. I admitted they probably had sex with those girls, but I said I just didn't believe they had two or three of those girls in the bed and had sex with them all at the same time.

My buddies lost interest in everything except talking about Angeles City and planning their next trip. My wife noticed the changes too, asking why I wasn't playing tennis or golfing with the guys anymore. I just told her that they had gotten busy doing other things lately. She gave me one of those "Oh yeah?" looks. She knew something was awry but since normalcy was still the standard in our house, she didn't push me on the subject.

It was a few months after their second trip to the Philippines that the guy that worked in the same company with me, separated from his wife. He was the first one.

I was shocked when my wife told me about it. His wife had been over to my house, crying on my wife's shoulder, really balling her eyes out my wife said. She told my wife she didn't understand her husband anymore, they hadn't had sex in months, he had been really weird and that she had no idea why he wanted to leave her.

My friend refused to explain anything to his wife. He wouldn't discuss it with his two kids who were already grown and out of the house. He just took off, leaving his wife alone.

I wondered if the Philippines had pushed him over the edge. I talked to him, asking him if he was sick or something. He replied that he didn't want to be married anymore. I told him it was those trips to the Philippines that had screwed him up. I remember his response clearly to this day, "You don't understand. You just don't understand. You have to go there to understand".

Shortly thereafter he filed for divorce. I talked to him again, telling him he was stupid for throwing away everything he had worked for the last twenty-five years or so. He just sat there with a hang-dog look, slowly nodding his head back and forth. He acted like he was being coerced to do something against his will, yet in his next breath when he mentioned Angeles City, he was instantly transformed, happy and grinning again.

I thought he was just a weak individual with no self-control or self-discipline. I told him bluntly he was just letting the little head do the thinking for the big head and that he should grow up and get over it. He told me that wasn't it and repeated that I just had to go there to understand. It was all completely beyond my comprehension.

They made their third trip to Angeles City in June 2003. When they returned, all they talked about was going again. All they cared about was getting back to Angeles City. It was their sole topic every time I saw them. Their behaviour and attitudes were totally alien to me.

The guy that worked in the company with me was now divorced. Within two weeks of returning from their third trip, another one of the guys left his wife. My wife began wondering out loud about those fishing trips to Canada but she never confronted me directly.

In February of this year, my company sent a team of us to Japan on business. The friend that was now divorced was a member. We had planned to spend two weeks in Japan. As it turned out, we finished in a week. My friend suggested we take a jaunt down to the Philippines. I told him I wasn't interested but he persisted until I relented.

I wasn't concerned in the least about what the Philippines might do to me. What had happened to my friends wouldn't happen to me. So what if there are young sexy girls in the Philippines? So what if I could have sex with them? I wasn't worried. I wasn't going to Angeles to have sex with those women. Some of those girls in Angeles were my daughter's age. I couldn't have sex with women that young, no way! I couldn't even imagine having sex with women that young. I was going to merely see what all the fuss was about.

So now I have been back from Angeles City almost three months. I thought a trip to the Philippines wouldn't phase me. I was wrong. I thought I could return to my normal life without any disruptions. I was wrong. I assumed when I returned home, the memories of the trip would fade. I was wrong. I thought I would be able to deal with whatever Angeles City threw at me. I was totally wrong!

I understand my friends now. Everything they told me is true. When we get together, we howl and laugh and slap each other on the back. We tell the same stories over and over. We are closer friends now than ever before, almost brothers. We are members of a special group, for we have been to Angeles City!!!!

My friend took me to the Champagne Club first. He was well known there, several girls squealing, laughing, grabbing him and greeting us as we walked in the door. In no time at all he had introduced me to four or five stunning beauties; and I could take one, two or all of them home with me? It was something I'd never thought possible. Within five minutes of entering the Champagne Club, I had succumbed to the charms of Angeles City. I didn't realize it then but I was already lost forever.

All I want now is to go again. I dream of the first night in Angeles City that changed my life forever. I had two gorgeous, sweet girls, naked with me in the hotel swimming pool, taking showers with me, all three of us nude in the bed, doing things I had hardly even read about in racy novels.

Or I dream of the time I stayed with Maricel, only twenty years old with a soft, sexy, purring voice that will melt you like an ice cube in the hot Philippino sun. She has a body and face that would win beauty contests in the United States.

We were together four glorious days and nights. We spend most of the days around the hotel pool, swimming, throwing the beach ball back and forth and splashing water. She would wrap her legs around my waist and her arms around my neck and pull me close while we were lounging in the water. Sitting by the pool she was always near me, touching me or holding my hand. Frequently she crawled up in my lap, playing with my ears or hair and kissing me on the neck, face and lips.

She was the most loving, affectionate and accommodating woman I'd ever met in my life. My wish was her command. She would run get my cigars, go to the store to pick up snacks for the room and take the dirty clothes to the laundry. You name it, she did it for me. She never complained about anything, not once in four days.

We made love in the morning when we woke up. Usually in the late afternoon we'd make love again. At night we'd go out to eat and then go bar hopping. Afterwards we'd return to the hotel and make love again. She always wanted to sleep close to me, throwing an arm and a leg over my body. Sometimes I would just lay there listening to her soft breathing next to my ear while she slept. It was heaven!

She wasn't jealous either. When we were in the clubs, I could call other girls over, buy them drinks and talk to them. She would sit close, always touching me while she joined in the conversations. She even told me it was ok if I wanted to take another girl with us.

We did it everywhere imaginable in the room, on the desk, on the floor, sitting on the couch, in the shower, everywhere! We even did it in the hotel pool late one night.

Any kind of sex I wanted was OK with her. In fact she showed me some things I'd never done before. If you can imagine it, I think we did it. Our love-making was indescribable!

Never in my life had I felt like this. I had boundless energy the entire trip, even though I was sleeping only three or four hours a night. I feel twenty years younger now. I am full in spirit. I am alive!!!

Angeles City is amazing. Everyone smiles and greets you wherever you go, even the girls on the street. They hooted and hollered when I walked into the clubs where I was known. The guys living there were friendly. You could easily meet them anywhere, in the clubs, outdoor bars, Kokomo's and other restaurants. They would spend time drinking a beer, chatting and relating their life experiences with you. I wanted to be like them. I wanted to live their lives.

When I was in Angeles City, I was a new person. The world as I knew it had ceased to exist. I could speak freely. I didn't have to modify my behavior for fear of repercussions. People left me alone. I could do just about anything I wanted and wouldn't be criticized, there was no politically-correct bullshit in Angeles City.

I didn't have to get up early and drag myself to work every day. I didn't have a demanding boss looking over my shoulder. I didn't have those relentless monthly bills that are unavoidable at home. I didn't have to worry about changing the oil in the cars, cutting the grass, fixing the roof or catering to the wife's needs. Hell, I didn't even have to take out the garbage.

I had miraculously escaped the rat race and the suffocating restrictions American society imposes on all of us. Angles City!!!! This is the way it is supposed to be! I am free! I control my destiny!

So after one trip to Angeles City, I found I was locked into my life at home, a life I didn't want anymore. I thought I had lost my mind. My behaviour changed, just as my friends' did. My wife started asking me what was wrong with me. I could see the worried look on her face. She was concerned for my mental health. I wouldn't, couldn't explain anything to her. She suggested I see a psychiatrist. I did, explaining in much greater detail than here.

While I talked for over an hour, the doc sat there with this incredulous look on his face. I wondered if he was deciding if I was a complete lunatic or planning his first trip to the Philippines.

He told me I wasn't crazy, advising me to grow up, get over it and get on with my life, the same thing I had told my friends. Ironically I found myself repeating, just as my friends had to me, "You don't understand. You just don't understand. You have to go there to understand".

Going to the doctor didn't do much good. I did decide I hadn't totally lost my marbles, but I had lost interest in everything I had held dear before.

The job? The hell with it. I don't care anymore. I still go to work because I have to. Believe me, if it wasn't required, I wouldn't set foot in the office another day. I have another 15 years to work before I'm eligible to retire. I don't think I can last that long. Physically I'm ok. Mentally, I shudder to think I have to work another fifteen years before I can retire to the Philippines.

My hobbies? Tennis anyone? Screw it, I never play the game anymore. Fishing? I'll give you my rods and reels, just drop by the house some afternoon. Golf? My clubs can turn to rust for all I care. Playing cards with the wife and friends? No thanks, it's boring. Poker with the guys? Yeah but we just drink and talk about the Philippines. I seldom see a movie and I never watch TV anymore.

I had never spent a lot of time on the computer at home before I went to Angeles City but I do now, always checking the bulletin boards. I crave any information at all about the place. I cruise the Angeles City and bar web sites, looking at all the photos and devouring any news about the town. When the wife's out of the house or sleeping, I chat with the girls I know there.

I haven't had sex with my wife since I returned from the Philippines. I'm not interested in sex with her anymore. We don't even sleep in the same bedroom now. My wife has done nothing wrong but she's losing me, 27 years of marriage down the toilet. She's aware it's happening but doesn't understand why or how to stop it.

I am thrown into depression and despair when I hear her crying and sobbing through the wall at night, yet at the same time I'm wishing she would finally go to sleep so I can sneak off to the computer and chat with the girls in Angeles City. We are on the road to divorce and like my friends before me, it's entirely my fault, yet I am powerless to change anything.

I know I can not go back to being the man I was previously. I admit to you I don't even want to go back to my prior life, for I have been to the Elysian Fields. I am obsessed with returning. The desire to be on the streets, and in the bars in Angeles City is an overpowering drug I can not control. I can't wait until I get on the plane again. It's all I dream of.

I dislike myself though, for not being strong enough to resist the siren call of Angeles City. I abhor the thoughts, emotions and desires that lure me back to Fields Avenue, yet in the next second, my spirit soars and I am smiling again as I think of my next trip, but I hate myself for ruining my family's lives. Sometimes I cry too, knowing what I will ultimately do to them.

Yet my thoughts about Angeles City never dissipate. I care to talk only of my experiences there. I am irresistibly drawn to Fields Avenue just as lemmings are to the sea. All I want is to get back to what was heaven on earth for me. It is the sole reason for my existence anymore.

If you are happy now, don't go to Angeles City. Angeles City will destroy your life. Once you have visited that town, you will lose interest in everything and everyone at home. Every waking hour you will spend plotting to return again, and again, and again, and again.

I am an Angeles City junkie now, addicted until I die. Don't go to Angeles City. Don't ruin your life as I have done.

Hmmm, maybe a good thing I began my mongering before midlife crisis. Not atypical stories at all. Seen a few guys do this. I am sure everyone here has seen it and some are that guy.

I honestly think that a whore mongering trip to fantasy land is a terrible idea for a guy in the midlife ruts that is still married. I just do not see the good it could do. A warped reality is what many seem to get out of it.

This is from the perspective of a bachelor 36 year old who is pretty much a vagabond without much for societal bonds beyond birth family and a couple old friends. My cell phone is full of names of two to four date girls I barely remember.

For me, I started at 31 at the point where most guys single guys just get married to whoever they are dating at the right time. I hit that point and place and decided to run from the relationship for no good reason. Needed a vacation and paying to bang exotic women in the tropics for pay rather than bring some bitch along sounded more fun as well as emotionally and financially prudent. In the time since I believe I have become quick to lose patience in relationships knowing I can always hop a plane and escape to fantasy land for a couple of weeks.

KM, Mall of America is actually very cool. 6 dollar Imax theater, ice skating in the tropics. Actually nice live music clubs where PI Superstars perform nightly...

I've spent a grand total of maybe THREE nights out of 200 in the PI in MNL (95% of the REST have been in AC, think I LIKE that place?), but casting AC as Pattaya to AC vs. MNL vs. BKK re: "things to do" is not good footing for an argument, IMO.

Re: AC AND PATTAYA, both are better places for discounted hookers than the capital cities among the 15 largest in the world.

Re: "stuff to DO", I'd bet the vast majority would agree that the big cities offer more.

Same goes for "stuff to do" in Batam vs. CGK. Fun can be had in the pueblitos, and it's almost always cheaper, but "bright lights, big cities" have their advantages?

Exceptions: you want to tour hooker beauty salons with bakla stylists, you want to go buy cheap sleazy bar girl clothes (perhaps finding a nice souvenir for your (grand)daughter the same ae as your hooker tour guide, or you want go score some ice to smoke back in the hotel. I'd recommend bringing your AC bar girl with you if you find a good one you like.

Girls in Manila can be very hit or miss as to GFE,and many aren't from Mnila, they don't know they're way around Manila any better than you will.

Your job is to find the places you'd like to visit before your trip then you'll know where to go.

Mall of Asia
Star City, a small amusement like place close by Mall of Asia. Inside they'll have a adventure called - Snow World - chances are your girl will love this, a gigantic freezer with winter like conditions inside, take a sled ride, don't worry, they furnish the jackets.
My girl freaked half way through, she couldn't take the cold.

Have a few drinks and dinner at Cafe Havana located out back of Green Belt 3 Mall in Makati.

A bar hop on Burgess ST. and LA Cafe.

There's also some Islands you can hit with plenty of history. Should have any problem finding how to get there asking taxi drivers.

Hookers travel poorly, and I would think that overly-clingy LBFM hookers may possibly be the worst on the planet. You asking one up in AC to go to Manila with you, she's going to think that's a honeymoon of some sort and I can't imagine the number of relatives and shit you'll be "surprisingly" bumping into once in Manila.

Now, as far as tourist stuff goes, I'm sure there are some sites that can help you out there. There are some people who go to the PI not to monger and/or on business. Why, who the fuck knows, but they do. So check that stuff out.

But bringing a hooker on a trip (bad idea) to be a tour guide (bad idea) is going to lead to a sub-optimal result on either your pocketbook, your time or your mental stability.

I don't recommend going to the zoo. Although the girl you take will find it fascinating, those who have been to a decent zoo before will find the conditions appalling. Supposedly, the zoo was first created during Marcos' time. They must have let it go downhill through the years.

I would tell you this. Don't worry about being alone. You sound like a 45 yr old woman. Things happen when you are there, thing you can't plan. You are worried about stuff that may not be an issue once you are there. Just go with it and see what happens, but don't try to plan out a situation like this because more than likely you are just going to either spend a lot of money on a girl while she is with you, or get yourself into something that is going to complicate your life.

Having lived in the Phils for a while (not now) I understand wanting to go sight seeing and taking in some of the culture. YES culture believe it or not Hombres there is a lot of culture in the Phils beyond AC pussy.

If you cannot afford to go to the Palawan islands which are absolutely beautiful and paradise on earth and make HI with its out of sight prices look like dog stew then instead of Manila per se why not go to the island of Corregador? They have a nice little hotel and a tour you can take. You can book a boat from Manila to Corregador for fairly cheap ($20?)

Now for those of you whom dont know what or where Corregador is ..... the island of Corregador was the island where MacArthur had his underground bunkers built and more ordinance was dropped on that island (per square footage)by the Japanese than anywhere in the history of warfare. It is really a testimony to US engineering and intelligence. It is a great trip and you can go into the maze of tunnels and see where MacArthurs headquarters are etc.

Listen to all of you guys whom think that fucking is the only thing to talk about on this forum you are wrong. Having lived in paradise I can tell you honestly that you get tired of fucking all the time. Really. It is true. In AC you start with the bar scene then you meet girls and people who know girls and you end up frowning on anyone whom is paying a barfine because you can wait and get the girls to come to your house after they get off work. And dont even get me started on the poor schmucks that send bar girls money. I was fucking this one gal for free whom was getting money from 6 different guys. Crazy. She even took me out bar hopping one nigt, didnt spend a dime and we had a threesome with one of her best friends. That was way back in the day though. Sorry I digress.

There are many places to visit I especially urge people to take up scuba diving it is fantastic and you can add so much more plearure to your trip if you are with a fun gal whom is willing to learn or knows how to dive. I go to Octopus divers on Puerto Galera and I love it every time.

The diving in the Phils is fantastic and I also recommend diving in the Palawans , Bohol there are just so many places and there is wreck diving wher you can find WW 2 Jaapanese shipwrecks to dive? That is the best ! However before I get flamed like crazy here is a photo of my last short time experience in AC they were a lot of fun !

It's ok, but I'd stay at Central Park and get free use of PB pool.

I was in a pinch my first night this trip and stayed at Walkabout, and the value was very good 1400 pesos -10% discount for cash (total 1250), and wireless internet and a pool and a GREAT location right on Fields.

BUT...

There is currently a massive construction project going on right next to the hotel, and the hammering and then jackhammering began at about 7:30 in the morning and I don't care HOW drunk somebody might get, NO ONE could sleep through that noise. I'd write that place off for the next several months.

As of April 2009, Construction is right across the street of the Central Park as well. Noise start EARLY! 6 days a week! But I am an early riser so I was alright with me. I think you can ask them to put you in a room further away from the entrance to minimize the racket!

Good point about construction at CP, but I heard less than nothing from it during my trip there. I faced the alley between CP and the Orchid. Roosters, on the other hand... With air con and fan on, though, noise wasn't a problem.

Looks CAN be deceiving. After many years of reading and researching the Angeles City thread, I was under the distinct impression AC was a thriving modern metropolis, with state-of-the-art futuristic-type nightclubs where the location far exceeds the other Philippine cities in entertainment. Not so.

For one thing, it's noisy and crowded, and it seems as if this city never sleeps. Yet, once again, there is that strange sickly musty smell in the air which causes you to cough if you're not used to fresh air.

Lots and lots of tourists here, everywhere. Especially Germans and Australians. There must be hundreds of older white guys with these cute young Asian girls all hanging on their arm. That's good, because I don't feel so out of place! I certainly don't mean to be mean or rude, but when I say old, I mean just that. It's almost quite amusing to see some real old white guy who is hunched over and can barely walk, who looks like he recently escaped from a retirement home, yet is in the company of some cute young exquisite Asian beauty where she is just making his last days on earth seem like heaven!

The upside to visiting AC:

You can count the number of ladyboys on one hand here, as opposed to Bacolod, Cebu City and Davao City, where they are quite literally everywhere. (Ahem...) Not that I am looking for that type of activity, you understand!

Must be quite literally thousands and thousands of girls all over the place here, either working in those bikini bars or walking the streets. Too easy to meet a girl and get laid-way too easy. If you have difficulty meeting a girl here and trying to get laid, then there's no hope for you anywhere. Women here stare at you, gravitate toward and you and even try to make conversation with you if they know you are a tourist, especially of they think you are from the US. Even with a cute young eighteen-year-old spinner hanging on my arm (whom I met through the Internet) didn't deter the girls from smiling and tugging on my shirt as we walked by.

There are just way too many bars here to check out. I don't know where to start. It would take you quite literally weeks, possibly a couple of months to check out every single bar and nightclub here. How on earth can anyone post about their adventures in certain bars when there are so many more, (more than is listed here) that are not even posted about on this forum?

The downside to visiting AC:

As I stated earlier, noisy, dusty and crowded. I have been warned about crime from the hotel staff. Street robberies are common, from what they say. The big extravagant hotels are all quite literally within walking distance from each other, including the regular standard hotels. No, they are not located out in the wilderness somewhere. The hotels on their web sites boast of an elegant, tranquil, pleasant atmosphere with a garden-type of surrounding complete with pools with exotic Hawaiian-type atmosphere and a desert island-type of existence. Not so, as all the hotels are right there in the middle of the continuous traffic congestion, which is almost 24/7.

Still, not too much to complain about, as it's worth visiting.

Jeez, MB, half of the reports posted her clearly note that AC is a SHITHOLE. Where did you get the impression that AC is a metropolis of any sort, let alone a thriving, modern one? Did you look at the street pics of AC? One would never come away with the impression that the clubs are state-of-the-art.

Street robberies are not common, but they are not unheard of. AC is certainly safer than TJ. It may not appear so to an AC newbie, but most guys who know both places well would rather walk unescorted down Fields Ave. than through the ZR.

Have to disagree with your characterization of the hotels as well. Many are noisy, but get off the main drag and it can be peaceful. I've never had noise problems in my room at the PB.

If I'm not mistaken, didn't MB JUST ask how far PB was from CP in another thread? That's information that anyone who's been to AC would know with even the SLIGHTEST diversion from the beaten path. It would seem that MB's opinions about AC valid those stated about Indonesia in his Jakarta trip report.

Oh wait, we STILL haven't seen that report. What's it been two years in the writing now?

Yes, I did, El Apodo, you are absolutely correct. But that was before I arrived here in AC. Been here three days now yet before my arrival, I was looking for honest answers in regard to hotel reviews that only a traveling monger would give.

The only way to get a good idea of just how close all the hotels are to each other is to rent one of those scooters and try and explore the entire city.

Central Park Hotel, where the main entrance seems to be in some back street definitely does not have a swimming pool. BTW, another monger, Radioman and I were supposed to meet up, but it seems he checked out of the Pacific Breeze on the 9th.

But moving right along....speaking of street crimes, I think it an insult to ones intelligence when these raggedy street urchins walk up to you trying to see you Viagra, when everything here, from brand name sunglasses to jeans and footwear is a violation of copyright and trademark infringement.

Your credibility issues arise from your failure to do two things, IMHO. First, you do not follow through on the things you say you will (i.e. the Jakarta trip report.) Second, the things you write about locations that are widely known do not match up with the facts that most of us know.

For example, above you use the phrase " raggedy street urchins" to describe the pain-in-the-ass street vendors in AC. According to online American Heritage Dictionary an urchin ia a "a playful or mischievous youngster; a scamp." In all my trips to AC, I've NEVER had a kid try to sell me anything. In fact, most of the vendors are rather well-worn. Sure these "playful scamps" have begged, but not sold. Perhaps this is just a matter of you not knowing/understanding the word urchin.

Secondly, you describe the entrance to the Central Park hotel "to be in some back street." The entrance to CP is not on Fields, but I'd hardly describe it as on some back street. It's on the same street as Swiss Chalet, 20 - 25 yards from Tequila Reef or Chrystal Palace. Again, this maybe a misunderstanding and I may be wrong. These issue dosn't take into account the items that Bwana brought up in an earlier post.

I am willing to help you re-establish your credibility in many people's eyes. I will be in the PI starting next Tuesday, July 14. I'll be spending a night in Manila before heading to AC the next day. I was going to suggest this meeting up with at least someone-anyone, just to put this alleged overseas mongering excursion to rest, considering there are so many mongers from this forum who seem to spend more time in AC than anywhere else all year round, not to mention spend so much of their time trying to discredit and accuse the innocent from valid worldwide mongering excursions.

Forgive me, but your argument against mine is weak. I certainly know what the term "Urchin" means. If it was taken out of context, which it was, it was used only as a derogatory expression. Nothing more. One would think description of regular street activity is enough, wouldn't you agree? You are just playing semantics here.

Let's be honest about this for a second El Apodo, (and Catacony, I want you to pay special attention to this part, not that I am labeling you as one who jumps on the bandwagon, but in the past, you have unfairly sided with my accusers in past accusations against my previous posts) do you, El Apodo, really believe for one one minute that if say, we did meet up for a beer somewhere and share some mongering stories, that the accusations of me really being here in the Philippines would go away?

Do you really think, that perhaps, if not you, then someone else from this forum who demanded to go in your place and wanted to see for himself that I am where I claim to be, then asked me to either put up or shut up and stand up and be counted by taking up the offer to meet me and quell the accusations about my trips would cease? For the four people actually reading this thread, here is the final report. I will try not to make any judgments, just relate the facts as I saw them.

After my last post, I PMed Master Bates letting him know what I looked like and what clothes I would be wearing when I went to Margarita Station. Although I expected a reply if for no other reason than common courtesy, I received nothing. So I have no way of knowing who to look for at this meet.

I awoke this morning with last night's barfine snuggled in close because she was cold. After a round of "Bed Olympics" to warm up, we settled back into bed to sleep for a couple more hours.

At 11:00 (which is really late for me), I was moving the barfine out when I received a text from Porker who was heading out to eat.

Around 11:30, Porker and I head out to go to Puzzles Cafe for breakfast. It's pissing rain outside, so I stopped to buy a 100 peso umbrella to keep me dry.

Porker and I walked over to checkpoint and got into a crowded jeepney. Around the Petron station, we got out. In doing so, I noticed that Porker was dropping coins from his pocket. He quickly realized that the bitch sitting next to him on the jeepney has slit the pocket in his cargo pants and had stolen his cell phone. Porker jumped into a trike to chase down the jeepney. I walked up to Puzzles.

After sitting down, Monger X showed up and we shot the shit waiting for Porker. Porker eventually returned to the cafe without the success of retrieving his cell phone and having to endure a quite funny lecture from his trike driver. (I'll let him tell that one if he wants.)

Porker, Monger X and I order breakfast, all of us choosing the Grand Slam for 135 pesos (I think) - proving once again that great minds think alike. About that time, Bud showed up and ordered breakfast as well. As always, there was a lively conversation around the table.

Upon finishing our meal, we decide to walk over to the Candy Bar to check it out. Porker decides not to stay, but Bud, MongerX and I sit for a drink. Bud pulls the skinniest girl (imagine that if you know Bud) from the stage to buy a lady drink.

At around 1:40, I leave Candy Bar to walk to the meeting spot at Margarita Station. I do not have high expectations that Master Bates will show. I enter the 'Ville at almost exactly 2:00 PM and make a slow circuit around the restaurant. Since he never replied to my PM, I have no idea what to look for so I'm looking for someone who is at least seems to be looking for other people. After a slow lap around, I see no one who remotely resembles the above description. I decide to sit at the bar and order a Coke figuring to give MB a half-hour to show before getting on with my day.

I remain relatively vigilant, but do not see any prospects. At one time a guy kind of looks me over, sits next to me for a second, then moves away. I thought it might be MB, but the dude never initiated any conversation.

At 12:27, I text MongerX and Bud, "Guess who never showed?"

At about that same time I notice that the guy who sat next to me early was standing near me again. He asks me if I am waiting for some guy to come through the door, waving his hands and acting like a idiot. I told his that I was expected to do that, but had not. The introduces himself as "Beachman." I say, "Beachman, huh? Well I'm El_Apodo. He laughs and says I'm really Master Bates.

We shoot the shit for about a half-hour and I leave to go to the hotel to take a dump. Master Bates seems like a kid in the candy store and appears to be having a pretty good time.

So bottom line, I meet someone in Margarita Station who claims to be Master Bates. I have no reason not to believe that the person I met is not MB.

I am in no way verifying any of his previous exploits, but will verify that I met the guy today. Let me know if you have any questions.

MB...Touring the old Clark air base is a somewhat enjoyable way to kill a few daytime hours in AC. Some of the old base buildings, parade grounds and a small museum can be seen, in addition to a few hotels, golf courses, duty free shops, housing developments etc. You can get a driver through your hotel to take you around. If you're lucky, you might get a middle aged guy who may have worked on base back in the day and actually knows the place.

I once rented a motorcycle and had an OLD bar girl who worked there as a school teacher back in the day (I said she was old) show me all around. It was kind pretty cool actually. Obviously having the base close was very bad for her seeing as how she used to have a high paying job as a school teacher and now she is an old bar whore.

Attempting to tour the old military base will have to be put on hold for now. (LOL), what I failed to point out in my post yesterday, was the somewhat startled facial expressions from the hotel staff, including the security guards as we pulled up to my hotel with this rotund beast!

You see, we arrived in one of those trike things. The problem wasn't so much trying to temporarily bear the embarrassment of whisking her swiftly through the reception area and up to my room, the problem was trying to get her OUT of that tiny cab which is adjoined to the motorcycle. Even the welfare cheats have it real good and don't realize it, considering no one in America ever dies of hunger. I was so taken back by the fact that when introduced to this girls family, the small children, including all the neighborhood kids all gathered around me and wanted to greet me.

I politely refused to stay overnight, as the living conditions aren't exactly sanitary, with no air conditioner, no running hot water, but a huge black plastic bucket in the makeshift CR (comfort room) filled with cold water and a jug where you scoop the water which is used to shower. I returned from my hotel the next day with a big back of cookies, candies and chips for the kids, something which I know only provides temporary happiness and relief from a life of desperation.
