I hate to admit it, but I am a bit of a sucker for good herb. (MJ, herb, smoke, bud, you get the idea.) I understand that the overwhelming advise is not to partake of any drugs while traveling in a foreign country. But I am looking for the inside scoop on how Thailand tolerates herb-smoking. I have heard that Thailand offers anything a traveler could want. And, I also know the term "Thai-Sticks" which leads me to hope that smoking some good herb in Thailand may be do-able... Please comment and offer me your insight. Thanks so much--RastaMan

I'm of the opinion that topics such as;
How to get drugs, How to find children for sexual exploit, How to raise anthrax spores, etc. really don't belong on this board. They are of interest to a very small segment of users and the discussion of such endangers the existance of this board.

Thai drug penalties are quite harsh. Even being caught with a small amount of drugs and you can end up in jail for over 40 years. And the prisons in Thailand are quite harsh.
From the State Department Web Site:
"Penalties for possession, use, or trafficking of illegal drugs in Thailand are severe, and convicted offenders can expect long jail sentences and heavy fines. The U.S. Embassy frequently does not learn of the arrest of U.S. citizens for minor drug offenses, particularly in southern Thailand, until several days after the incident. Prison conditions in Thailand are harsh, and Thailand has a death sentence for serious drug offenses. A recent change in Thai law lowered threshold quantities that may result in its imposition. After a period when the death penalty was seldom imposed, Thailand is once again executing convicted traffickers. There are at present approximately fifteen Americans serving long-term prison sentences in Thailand, but in previous years the total went above sixty. A ruse sometimes used to transport drugs out of the country involves offering an American a free vacation to Thailand, then requesting the American's assistance in transporting excess "luggage" or gifts back to the United States. The American's claim that he or she did not know that the package contained drugs has not been a successful defense in Thailand."

To each to his own though if it is THAT important to you. But know what you might be getting into beforehand!

Lots of luck if you get caught in the LOS with dope!
Ever seen the show "Fear Factor"? There's a glimpse of things you can expect to see in a Thai prison.

lighten up man, smoking reefer is a far cry from "How to find children for sexual exploit, How to raise anthrax spores"...
i agree that advocating breaking of a law is wrong...(but hey isnt prostitution illegal in MX, oh wait theres a zona of tolerencia where the local practices allow prostitution to be legal when technically its not...so i guess we dont break the law in talking about how to find a sg.)
but an inquiry into thai drug laws and practices is a valid conversation that deserves to be on a board where "world travelers" congregate and bless us with their observations.. not only on sex but on other topics...
you'd be surprised at how many people smoke pot. probably more than those who engage in this hobby.
rastaman, bring your own blunts as they might not know what a phillie is in thailand...
oh, and dont break the cipher... i mean, the law.

O.K. Pedrodepacas ... you are right. It's not like I never smoked any pot myself (never have snorted anthrax though) But, still I think there is a difference between a discussion of a countries cultural and legal issues with drugs and a thread on how to score. The former being the type of advice that Rasta has recieved from other posters and the latter being the kind of thing that can cause trouble for this board.
By StrikeEagle on Friday, November 30, 2001 - 03:04 pm: Edit |
Mcdijj,
Agreed. I'd be in support of removing this thread as a way of avoiding any potential issues.

I agree with all of you. However, I tend to think that PedroDePacas is more on the mark, than was McDijj pertaining to the interest in my question and its appropriatness for the board. I think the volume of immediate responses illustrates Pedro's point. As for my resolution on this issue--it certainly is not important enough to me to take any chances with my freedom! Bangkok will be a completely new experience for me, though. I had to ask, since that is what this board is all about--benefitting from the wisdom of those who have gone before you... And having a nice little puff during a beautiful Thai sunset (or sunrise!) I imagine would be rather pleasant. So thanks for all of your comments--and maybe for keeping me out of a Thai prison! - Rasta

From what I have seen, a lot of the BG smoke pot.
In patong area, travel down soi sea dragon to the end and "follow ur nose"
It is pretty obvious what is going on in the (known to locals as the "ganga bar")
If you worry about thai police, just be sure you are not carrying any, just enjoy it at someones
( bg) invitation.
don't make yourself a "target" for arrest.
( flaunt what you are doing) and the mai pen rai attitued will keep you out of trouble.

No personal offense intended Rastaman ... I'm going to be in LOS end of January. When are you going? Maybe I could buy you a beer.

When I was in Bangkok about a year ago the beautiful young woman I took out of the Queen Bar in Patpong told me she enjoyed it, and that if I would see her again she would bring some. I was going to see her anyway (a 10 plus sweetie)so we made a date and she brought some. They mix it with tobacco and reinsert the mixture into a cigarette. I was more concerned about smoking the tobacco than the herb! So I think it is "ask and ye shall receive". But it is ironic that there is so little of it available in the home of the fabled Thai stick. Also ironic is that there is almost no pornography available but all the live sex one could possibly want. I was told that the King disapproved of porn.

Hey McDijj, thanks, I would love that. I am trying to plan a trip in Jan from 4th - 13th, if possible. But may end up going at the end of the month (still working out travel plans.) If we are there at the same time, I would love that!
And thanks, PasaThai, I may check something like that out if it feels right...

Rasta, If I can put my 2 cents in here.My advice if you want Thai-stick is go to Amsterdam. They grow it there from original Thai seeds, and is probably better than anything you might stumble on in Thailand.Much safer from a legal point of view seeing its openly tolerated in the Netherlands where in Thailand it land could get you in some very serious hot water.
By Pedrodepacas on Saturday, December 01, 2001 - 08:47 am: Edit |
amsterdam is every smokers dream... including my own. i agree with bill, ive heard that the variety of strains and breeds weed is incredible in am...
By Rastaman on Saturday, December 01, 2001 - 10:05 am: Edit |
Yes, that does sound tempting. But, I would rather have no herb and go to Thailand. I am really looking forward to this trip. The herb can wait! Thanks guys for the advice.

You're not alone, Rastaman. I asked an innocent question about chicas that like to toke, and got the shit scared out of me regarding getting busted (in Mexico). Probably a good thing, though. I'm not sitting in a Mexican jail right now. Besides, that old "Thai Stick" thing is so "eighties"... The best stuff is grown hydroponically right here in the good ol' USA (or Canada)... It's actually kinda funny to think that some countries still grow it in the ground - sheesh...

To follow up MrBill,I think every person in AMS,is allowed to grow up to 5 plants though from what I understand it's not really enforced there. To answer Pedro the varity of strains'and seeds is really mindboggling.I've been there twice, and some of the coffee shops have 4 or 5 page menu's on the different kinds they have.I don't smoke anymore but if you do it's the place to go because it's so openly tolerated.

ya'll just dont know...
im lightin a spliff right now. thinking about amsterdam.
ive actually had couple of ab chicas tell me that they smoke regularly... i mentioned to the chicas from sin that i heard that a lot of the crop is grown there... i tell them that im a big fan of the herb and they laugh...
and once i walked toward a jalos hotel room with a chica from cc and i smelled some burning herb... at the moment i thought i was the janitors...
ive smoked in almost every state in the us but ive never smoked in mx... it scares the shit out of me (the thought of going to jail)... but im sure it happens... often...

I've smoked in Mexico often and have never had any problems. Often I will smoke with the BGs or SGs after sex. Quite a few of the BGs enjoy good herb and some of the SGs do. I never observed any of the ones that didn't want to puff with me, to care if I puffed. I always roll here and pack with cigarettes (even though I don't smoke). I left anything extra there. One time I left two choice, fat J's on the bridge railing near the Mexico taxi drop-off. I only smoke in my hotel room or a temp hotel room, and only when I can tell it is safe. I don't leave anything "out" in my room. I find a good hiding spot as soon as I get there. And I clean up after I smoke, empty the ashe tray, etc. I'm a very tidy person anyway, so I tend to clean up after myself before moving on to the next activity. Mexico IMHO is very tolerant of persons that are respectful and good tourists. As long as you don't call attention to yourself, you are free to enjoy yourself.

A bottle of Ozium can be a very good thing when smoking Mota in your Mexican hotel room.one of your used towels covering the big crack under the door is not a bad idea either.
I wouldn't put it past some of the talacheros to have policia friends that would drop them back some of the funds they extract from gringos for mordida. If you get caught you better hope you have a chance to pay the Mordida because the alternative is pretty bleak.
Mexico didn't originally have serious laws against harmless stuff like burning a bit of mota until the United States applied heavy pressure on them. They have no qualms about enforcing these laws to the fullest extent against Gringos but probably let locals slide quite a bit.
If it weren't for the U.S. Federal government needing to find a new evil for Revenuer agents to battle to keep them employed after the repeal of prohibition there probably wouldn't be all this fuss over the evil weed.

Rastaman,
A buddy of mine lives in Hong Kong and has a condo in Bangkok. The way he deals with your request (at the top of all of these posts) is to pull into the massage parlor known as Darlings.
You should see some commentary under that thread on this board (i.e. bangkok, massage parlor). They sell thai "cigarettes" in there - the one's you want have the scotch tape on the bottom of the pack (i.e. they were re-packed). I can't recall the price of that pack so I can't help you on your bargaining position.
Also, my buddy never smokes anywhere but the balcony of his condo (and the golf course). I had a few of his "brand" at my hotel and the gals I took back to place were totally stoked about that. It was a great time.
This guy's buddy (a guy I also know) got busted smoking in public and went to jail. got out in two days but it wasn't a good scene at all. make sure you leave stuff hidden in hotel or forget it all together.

Buick,
I think your Hong Kong buddy is pulling your leg, or he happens to score from a dealer who works out of Darling. I think it's really unlikely that Darling would want to risk the fortune they make selling sex to make some money on the side selling pot.
Rastaman, to your original question, I've never gotten any Thai Stick in Thailand, in 20+ trips over 15 years. In the past, it was relatively easy to score on the islands (Ko Samui, Krabi, etc), but even that has gotten more difficult since 1996 or so. My strong advice is to bring it with you- bottom of a deodorant stick or something- after all, who is going to bust you for smuggling into Thailand?! And keep it quiet- you definately do not want to be visiting Thai prisons...
Cambodia, I think is a different story. Pot is a common cooking herb, used in a lot of local dishes. When I was there 2 years ago, it was readily available, and repacked cigarette packs were about the same price as cigarettes at the Russian Market. The best offer was at the hostel I was staying at- they had a large bag available for free- the owner of the hostel made enough selling rolling papers to pay for the pot! The reverse of the usual deal in the States, where your dealer throws in a free packet of rolling papers...
Of course, the pot available is like the worst loose shake you would get in the USA. Finally, I had heard that Cambodia had cracked down on pot in the last 6 months or so, and it may now be illegal.
Hope this helps,
Friendly

This board (its members) is a tremendous resource. It would take me years on my own to learn the things I learn from all of you. Thanks for the insights. And TJ, thanks for taking the Redsnake board, keeping it real and taking it further... Yah-yah, you can expect my check pretty soon...

Friendly, I was in BKK and my buddy showed me the pack (as we smoked on his balcony) and told me how to get it done. What motivates Darlings to do this is a good question but I promise you that it does happen. These guys I know from HK are rock solid and go to BKK at least two weekends a month. They know the town as good as anyone. Perhaps, since they are locals, they get what others cannot at Darlings. As Rastaman says, this board is an excellent resource for sharing information and what I've set forth is accurate.
I also followed up with my buddy who travels to HK often (we met for drinks last night). I got the specifics on the guy that got arrested. He was smoking alone outside on the sidewalk (the other group of guys smoked and headed back in). The guy saw the thai police and then dropped the smoke down a grate in the street. They asked what he dropped and he claimed nothing. When they searched him they found one of the mystery cigs from Darlings and took him to jail. he was there for two nights and when they let him out, he was not able to leave the country.
Since he needed to get back to work in HK, he flew to Phuket and got to HK from there via SIN. When he came back to BKK for his trial, the customs folks freaked because his name came up as not being able to leave the country (although he was able to clear through phuket). He told them about his job, etc... and that he came back on time for the trial. Then, the trial was delayed and he had to do the same thing again to get back to work. Got the same freak out in BKK customs again and this time they took him to jail for the night. The next day, he had his trial and they fined him 1,500B and let him go home. The fine was nothing but he did suffer three nights total in jail plus spent a bunch of $$ getting back and forth from HK for the trial.
