I am looking for a Sony MVC-CD200 digital camera. I am interested in opinions on whether I would get a better deal on E-Bay before I go, or in Thailand. Any opinions would be appreciated. Camera retails for $800 and regulary sells for about $560 on ebay, new.

Make that $525 on ebay. (Love that place!)

I'd strongly recommend that you buy any electronic and camera equipment in the USA; not Thailand. You won't find very many bargains in Thailand. In fact, I found my Olympus digital camera was more expensive in Thailand than the USA. Furthermore, if you do buy it in Thailand and something goes wrong, you might not be able to exchange it or find anyone to honor the warranty in Thailand or USA.

Why a Sony? The Olympus is better at that price. Check the big photo websites.

694me,
Yulin is correct. The best prices are here in the USA.

Cool. I bought the Sony from ebay. I bought the Sony because it stores images to recordable/rewritable 3" cd's. Far as I could tell Olympus didn't offer that.

Rasta
I'm leaving for LOS in 32 days. When you get there be sure to do some reporting so I can get my antisipation level up. It makes that plane ride go by so quickly when you just can't wait.

RASTAMAN--UPDATE-UPDATE-UPDATE:
Greetings to all my fellow mongers from the island of Phuket, Thailand.
I made it to Bangkok and Phuket. I have a more detailed trip report that actually should be fun for all you to read, that I am preparing. I hope to post it later today (with scenic pics--Hombre, tell me if you get enough scenic pics already and I'll spare you all).
Let me just make a few points. I am traveling alone (first time w/American passport) and that has been "No Problem". Secondly, the Majestic Suites in Bangkok is somewhat basic, but otherwise "The Bomb". Stay there. The Neptuna is Phuket says they offer internet services on their website, but this means you are required to provide access. So, I managed to buy a diskette (20 baht) and will use it to transfer some photos and the trip reports that I have already written using my laptop.
Boy is it windy here in Phuket. For those of you that have been here is it always like this, or is this from all the shower activity in SE Asia, recently?

I forgot my Euro-style adapter 110v-220v at home! Damn! Anyone got any idea where I can buy one in Phuket?

Just a note of closure to this thread. I bought my Sony MVC-CD200 here before leaving for $580. (Absolutely incredible Camera!) In Thailand, I checked at some up-scale camera shops and it wasn't available for anywhere near that price. And very few shops had it or could get it. So, the advise to buy the camera here in the U.S. was right on the money.
