I would be remiss in my reporting if I didn't mention the following. It would also break with a longstanding tradition of me getting addicted to a local song while on a trip.

I was sitting in the Dynasty one day during my last trip waiting for some food to arrive. I was flipping through the channels on the television and a music video came on.

As I recall the video was done up like a Thai version of rap, ghetto, wife beater shirt and beanie wearing gangstas. The video also featured some Matrix spoofs with the wires clearly visible. (Maybe they didn't even bother trying to hide them?)

I laughed out loud all throughout the presentation and for about 10 minutes afterward. And then I found myself singing "Who's Zaa? Who's Zaa?” the rest of the day.

I tried to find the song at the music store before I left, but couldn't. I tried to find an MP3 version of the song as well, but had not luck. Then I found:

http://music.kapook.com/newmusicstation/play.php?id=3237

It is embedded in a Macromedia Flash file so I cannot download it. But I can visit the site anytime I want to hear the song.

Song: Who's Zaa...?!!
Artist: Siamese Ghetto

I think you've gone off the deep end Xen. Waaaay too much time in SEA !! There is nothing about that " local song " that I would ever want to hear once, let alone sing over and over !!! Maybe ya gotta see the video to get the hook .

Thai rap has always been a laughable , feeble attempt at reproduction of it's US counterpart. They should give up and stick to good ole Morlam and Luuktung.

BTW --- I just read your original post above for the first time. Now I'll take the China Dolls ANYTIME. Two hot little Thai Chinese pooying who sing decently but are sooooo friggin sexy in concert. I just got all the keys on my keyboard all sticky just remembering their show !!
Saw them a few years ago at the Brewhouse on Ratchada and OMG were they cute !

OH OH OH JEP !!! OH OH OH OH JEP !!!

One of my all time favorite songs, but after I saw the show, I dreamed about those two hot cuties screaming that while I pounded them in doggie one after the other !

An all time wet dream for me.

On my 2002 trip, I got hooked on a song called "Doe, Ray, Me" by a female Hatyai star named Ben. I requested it at every gogo bar and the girls would go wild dancing.

On my 2004 trip, there was one song and one video that kept my attention. The song was another Thai girl singing something like "Stand UP, stand UP, stand UP!" (refering, as my Thai babes told me, to the hair on her arms). Very fun song, but never did find the album.

The video, I have not idea, but it was pure cheese. Four guys, hamming it up in various costumes, sing a sort of do-wop song. The video shows a couple sitting on the couch at home watching the performers. She's tapping her feet, shaking her head and smiling in delight, he wants to be somewhere else. Great video.

And then there's Tata Young <gro00ooow>

The Lao girls at work have been playing that "Doe, Ray, Me" song half a dozen times a day for the last 2 or 3 years. I don't know if it's a Lao thing but once they find a song they like they play it over and over again and again. They have been known put a single song on repeat on the CD player and play it for hours. I like the Thai pop music they play but after hearing a single song over and over again it drives me nuts sometimes.

KM,

Did you make it through the entire song or did you turn it off after about 15 seconds?

Another Thai pop song I absolutely LOVE is Ok-Na by Kat English. I have the VCD and that chick is hot. I think I remmeber reading somewhere that she is part whitey.

Here is a pic.

She is also a part of some group that includes Kat English, the China Dolls, Jennifer Politanon (Jamp) and YaYa Ying. I have that VCD as well. Love the China Dolls!

Here are some more pics of Kat English. I am only a year older than her! I think I may have a chance! Yeah right.

Xen
Listened for about a minute-- I cannot tolerate Thai rap. It sucks in general. Most Thai male singers turn me off.
I can handle Bird but that's about it.

OK Na Ka is a GREAT song. I always request it at the LA Thai restaurants with singers and always gets everyone in a good mood.

Nat Myria was always my favorite solo pooying singer. She's super hot -- just got married though. Just something about the China Dolls when they perform that pumps me up-- if you know what I mean-- very sexy indeed.

My Thai ex-wife who was a writer for a big Thai magazine told me that even the top Thai pop singers or movie stars could be " booked " for a date. This was about 10 years ago. Cost then was about 20,000 baht per night or LT. So you may have a chance with Kat. Just gotta find her manager.

Sancho

It's not just a Lao thing. When Bird had his 2 big songs - Faan Ja and Mai Rak- on the top of the chart, the girls at Golden Beer Bar played them constantly -- as did 90% of the bars in Thailand. That's how they learn the words. I'm sure you've noticed that every girl seems to know all the words to every popular Thai song . Amazing. At every concert , the singer stops singing and all the pooying keep on with the lyrics just like nothing happened.
I remember quite a few years ago I got totally sick of hearing Lambada in every bar and street vendor stall blaring 24/7 !

I hope it's better than the AC song I just downlaoded (sic): Michael Bolton's "I said I loved u, but I lied". I'm a WEAK man!!! :-(

The RCA group out of LOS has two additional "Best of Hits" CD albums now (#2 and #3).

In the Phils, the group Sexbomb is still very hot.

So are some other Europop groups which are not popular in the States.... such as "Living Next Door To Alice (Who the Fuck is Alice")" By Smokie..."Swiss Boy" By Lou Sern..."SuperStar" by Jamelia, etc.

By Xenono on Sunday, January 09, 2005 - 08:57 pm:  Edit

My favorite songs by the sex bomb girls are:

Bakit Papa
The Spaghetti Song (Spelled Spagheti for some reason there)
Di No Ka Mapipigilan

I am gonna barf...cant believe you guys listen to that crap....and Porker made fun of me for liking Johnny Cash.....those gogo songs are the only thing I dont like about mongering.

By Porker on Monday, January 10, 2005 - 02:25 am:  Edit

I love Johnny Cash, and, like you, have since I was a little kid. I remember making fun of you for liking Roadhouse music, which I personally can't stand.

My first experience hearing Sex Bomb songs was Flaca singing them into my ear in a cartoonish voice. Adorably cute. I'm not as hardcore as Xen and Merlin, but the Asian bar crap gets in my head too and I've got some REALLY hideous junk downloaded, like that Michael Bolton song I mentioned before, Right Said Fred's "Your My Mate", Roxette's "Dangerous", Cheeky Girls -- ALL stuff that gets you kicked out of the 'cool guys' union! A guilty pleasure!

By Merlin on Monday, January 10, 2005 - 11:49 am:  Edit

Xen, those are all great Sexbomb songs, I even got the videos for them. Amazing how every Filipina knows all the songs and movements to the Sexbomb songs at the bars.

Blazers, prior to Mongering, I was a big-time Classic Rock Guy (Eagles, Foreigner, Doors, etc) and even the music of the 50s and 60s, but repeatedly listening to this techno/hip hop stuff really had it's impact.

Porker, I also like country music and they played or sang a lot of it at Blueberry Hill and at the Midnight bars, which both had good singers/bands. Hung out at both places for extended periods.

By Don Marco on Monday, January 10, 2005 - 12:29 pm:  Edit

After 3 nights at Pacific Disco in Batam, I fall asleep listening to anything besides techno ;)

I like go-go music as it brings back memories of all that pooying lined up for my inspection!

By Blazers on Monday, January 10, 2005 - 01:48 pm:  Edit

Hip hop is good but they play the same songs over and over.
Tachno is good but they dont play real techno like Chemical Brothers or Crystal Method...they play stuff that sounds like a local guy on an old Commodore computer.

I lean towards hip hop and sad bastard music(ie radiohead) but I know sad bastard music doesnt do to well in go go bars.

I just wish they would play hip hop that wasnt played out

By Phoenixguy on Monday, January 10, 2005 - 07:27 pm:  Edit

Blazers, techno is a lot more varied than Chemical Brothers and Crystal Method. Personally, I like Progressive Trance - Oakenfold, Paul VanDyk and the like. House is cool, Deep House is even better for dancing. Hell, I can even tolerate Happy Hardcore for a while. But Drum and Bass just never floated my boat. Then there's Goa, regular Trance, Hard Trance, Tribal...you get the idea.

By the way, if you want some classic techno, find a copy of Oakenfold's Goa Mix CD2 for download on WinMX. Totally awesome mix.

By Blazers on Monday, January 10, 2005 - 08:00 pm:  Edit

Cant stand house...way too simple and the sampling and use of breakbeats amateur in my book. I like dancing and listening. Progressive Trance is superb but not really gogo dancing material. And yes I do know that techno is more varied, just brought up two middle of the road pop techno DJ's whom are never played in gogo bars in Asia. The stuff they play is done by locals and it takes about a minute to make on a computer.

I put up with Techno in the gogo bars, but back in the room on my own CD player, the girls get 80s or slow dance tunes. Plenty of 80s songs with energy to bump and grind with, and my mp3 player mixes seguays together for 18 hours without stopping. No complaints from the girls. Most do not like rap or hiphop, in my experience, so why bother taking any to them?

<<<COMPUTER GEEK

Techno is annoying.
I prefer Trance in the room. Great energy while fucking.

What could be better than sitting and watching naked young girls dancing ,listening to " Boom boom boom , I want you in my room. "
