The best Thai learning software is now available here (Rosetta Stone). Trust me, after learning rudimentary Thai, my sessions improved dramatically.
Many new MP3's available including: All Pink Floyd albums on 2 MP3 cd's, Johnny Cash, Best of Grunge, Miles Davis, Neil Diamond (guilty pleasure), Dire Straits, Black Sabbath, etc.
You can also get a lot of Thai DVD porn here and regular Thai movies to help practice your Thai. There is also an excellent food court here that is very cheap. I would not recommend buying electronics here as it is not any cheaper than the states. The lone exception might be smaller home DVD/VCD/MP3 players which go for about $44.00. Not sure how good the quality is or if the DVD is coded for zone 1.

DVD's that were available when I was there included:
Oceans 11
Lord of the Rings
Blackhawk Down (still wasn't in Thai theaters)
Harry Potter
And just about everything else in current release...
I agree on the electronics. The available computer hardware was all at least one and usually two generations behind, with prices that were higher than here in the states.
For example: The best vid card I could find was a Geforce2 Mx400. No Geforce2 Pro. No Geforce3.
My buddy is hooked on the MP3 CDs they put out in series - on each one they will have a half dozen newly released titles.
The porn hawkers are fucking irritating.
On the whole, a good place for DVD's, software and MP3 CD's, otherwise not worth the time.

How is the quality of the DVD's? I bought 12 about a year and half ago and the quality was terrible. I was tempted this trip, but had a bad taste with the last batch.

One of the DVD's was excellent quality, the others were typical "shot in the theater" quality.
I think the quality improves dramatically the longer the film has been out and depends on whether they have made the copy from a promotional dvd, commercial dvd, or in-theater video cam.

Well,as for my personal experience in Panthip plaza.......you really have to be aware for everything you buy(e.g:porn movies are only bought by number or movie cover and i`ve been fooled before........discovering that the cd`s i got were different from what i`ve requested and i had to go back there many times to return cd`s like movies with Thai language instead of thai subtitle!!,bad/defective software.......etc.
just take care about what ur buying!.
