I recommend going to Bookazine next to Starbucks on Sukhumvit and Soi 5 or go to one of the many Asia Books in nearly every mall, including Landmark Plaza right around the corner from Nana Plaza.
Recommended readings:
Bangkok Nights by Collin Piprell (crazy expat tells of his partying in Bangkok bars) 425 baht
Sleepless in Bangkok by Ian Qaurtermaine (Provides insight to way of life in Bangkok, specifically advice about bar girls)425 baht
Off the Rails in Pnom Penh (great stories of expats parting in Cambodia at Sharkey's and Svay Pak)385 baht
Thai Ways by Denis Segaller (provides insight to Thai people and the quirky ways).
But I don't give a Hoot by Jennifer Bliss (chronicles the history of prostitution in Thailand and contains anectdotes and opinions of Bernard Trink from his column in the Bangkok Post)
245 baht
Any book by Christopher Moore (especially Minor Wife and Nana Plaza)
Guidebooks- Lonely Planet and Rough Guide are recommended.

Finished reading Minor Wife by Christopher Moore and am currently reading The Big Weird by Christopher Moore. An excellent read with hilarious commentary on Thai people and mongers in the Thai community. The books are private eye/suspense novels but the commentary takes up about half of the books. "The Big Weird" is now on sale at Bookazine for 95 baht ($2). Most of his books sell for about 475 baht.

Blazers - If you get a chance read "Chairs" by Moore, not so much set as a monger novel but very entertaining. Also I hear that "Scribe" is a excellent read... not sure the author but it is published bry asia books, it's on my list. And of course for those travelling to Thailand or any mongering destination I highly reccomend reading "Private Dancer", it is available on the net in PDF format for free.
