Progman,
Yes, I have a stop in Seoul. It is about a two hour layover. I arrive in Seoul at 5:45 and leave for BKK at 8:05.
Not too bad, IMO.

I got an email from ThaiFly.com the other day. You can get airfare as low as $535 R/T between LAX or SFO and BKK. The email didn't say which carrier but I believe it was JAL. This was a limited time offer... (prog)

Why is that flights from LAX to BKK always arrive about midnight?
By Ezgab on Monday, November 12, 2001 - 10:34 pm: Edit |
There are flights that arrive in the late morning or early afternoon. Try EVA or China air. I was not that fond of either although they have the best schedule (leave at 1:00 AM and arrive at 11:AM) The best service I have found in coach is Thai Air

Ez,
What's up? I have flown both Eva and C.A. to LoS. Never used T.A. but C.A. isn't bad. If you leave here @ mid-night you will arrive there in the am.

Got a $899 quote from eva in their emerald class of service for jan...anybody use this class w/eva?
EVA Air has their Evergreen Deluxe (not Emerald) service which is better than economy, but not quite business class. If business class is not an option, I highly recommend their Evergreen Deluxe class. I flew them from New York to Bangkok at the beginning of November and paid $910. The good thing about this flight is there are very short layovers. The plane stops in Seattle & you do have to get off, but it takes off for Taipei 1 hour later. Once you land in Taipei, you get off the plane and board another plane literally at the next gate, no passport control, no nothing. This plane takes off in 30 minutes and you are 3 hours away from landing in Bangkok @ 11:00am local time. The only thing about EVA is they do not give seat assignments until you get your boarding pass and where you sit, even in Deluxe, makes a difference. DO NOT LET THEM PUT YOU IN ROW 33. This is the last row, right next to the bathroom. Row 32 sucks also, because when people line up for the bathroom, they're standing right next to you. These are the prime seats that you want:
Row 20, seats C,A & K,H have nothing in front of them
Rows 24 & 26 , seats G,D have nothing in front
Row 27 is the emergency row; seats C,A & K,H have nothing in front.
A,K = Window C,H,G,D = Aisle
Finally, when taking EVA Evergreen Deluxe from New York, with bonus miles you get 34,000 miles for the roundtrip. According to their WebSite (and I have yet to confirm this with one of their agents) you get one mileage award "cheque" for every 5,000 miles (so on this trip you get 6) and it "costs" 6 mileage award cheques to upgrade roundtrip from Evergreen Deluxe to "Super Business Class" for the New York to Bangkok roundtrip. If this is true, then EVA is a great bargain, because every trip made after the intial trip will cost about $1,000 for a real business class seat, which is a $3,000 seat with any other airline.
Right now NWA has some killer fares to BKK. I am flying from my po-dunk town in SC for $771 taxes included! United, American, and Continental all have similar fares on Travelocity. I got NWA from Orbitz. Even my consolidator couldn't touch that.

Hey All,
I got back from BKK and Pattay in mid Jan. I'm a "newbie and my first trip anywhere! Got into BKK at midnight and was in my room with a gal by 2:00 am! Awesome! Anyway, I left the 27th of Dec. and returned the 16th of Jan. I flew from Chicago to LAX, layed overnight, then to Tokyo, then BKK. Return trip was BKK to Tokyo then straight to O'Hare. Total price through priceline was $1054.00 with insurance. I planned a long time in advance. I am ready to go back and appreciate all the info on where to get low airfares. I originally went over through a travel agent in BKK but after being there, I am not afraid to jump on a plane and go myself. Naturally I was there in "peak season" and there weren't a lot of hotels available at this time in Jomtein. Any other advice would be appreciated.

Any suggestions on where to get killer flight discounts on flights to thailand?
Star Tours 1-877-6444 or 1-323-644-1081
Lax>BKK>Lax = $499.99 EVA air...
Neverana :
Why do you want a cheap fare to Thailand ?? Aren't you afraid you might " catch " something ?? Or maybe a " killer discount " is to be taken literally, if you believe your own posts.
Hey Innocent, any idea what the prices if for the same from EVA but Evergreen Deluxe Class?
PS -- Hello Khun.
Rastaman,
For Evergreen Deluxe, you can generally figure about $100-$200 more round trip. With the consolidators like Star Tours or ThaiFly it might be a bit more.

Hey Rasta!
Where is your trip report? I enjoyed the pictures on your personal page. You got a good story to tell ... let's hear it.
McDIJJ
StrikeEagle,
I guess what I am trying to figure out is if I should shop the EVA Airfare I get directly from their site. Is there ever a way to get a cheaper rate. Now, I am getting a quote of $850 for travel in Deluxe class between LAX-BKK-LAX on about 4/10 or 4/11 from their website.
McDIJJ
OK, I'll work on it now. Its pretty long though.
Rasta.

check out www.thaifly.com for great plane ticket prices
I just booked my flight from Honolulu to Thailand via Yahoo. Total cost was $613, which includes the delivery charge for the paper tickets.
It would have probably been much less had I booked my flight more in advance. But since I leave next week, I guess I got stuck with higher last minute fares.
What's a good airfare to Thailand from California?
Special Deals:
Chinese New Year Celebration, LAX-Taiwan/Asia round-trip from USD549

Perhaps a bit off topic, but if any of you are looking to accumulate frequent flyer miles, there are two internet "shopping mall" promotions worth noting. One at www.aadvantageshopping.com (10,000 bonus miles for using a Mastercard to buy a total of $1,000 worth of stuff from any of 25 shops, plus double mall miles on the purchases--again if you use a Mastercard), or, 2,500 United miles for a $100 purchase at one of five stores at the United Mall (http://mponlinemall.com/holiday/). I just accrued about 17,500 American miles for purchasing a Canon D20 digital camera at Circuit City (for a price that wasn't bad). Will undoubtedly come in handy on a future trip (both the miles and the camera :-)).
Check out www.seatguru.com for helping with seat selection on various airlines. Strider recommended www.flyertalk.com for other info. I have gotten a lot of info off that site also as far as how to maximize miles and various promotions.
both have been mentioned on the board extensively for over a year.
How about flights within Thailand? BKK-Chiang Mai?Anyone tried that?
Just did Chiang Mai. There are many good options but I took Nok Air http://www.nokair.co.th because they are very cheap but seem classier than Air Asia. (Air Asia is the absolute cheapest but Nok Air was way better) They are a "low cost" airline like AirAsia but offer reserved seats and even "Nok Plus" business class for just 500Baht extra. I took the business class option since it also allows for no penalty date changes. 4 across seating on a 737 plenty of legroom. Nok Air was pretty good for a "low cost" airline.
Explorer, several of us have flown to Chiang Mai on Thai Airways. They've got a large number of flights every day. Once in a while Thai runs some specials that offer decent prices, but definitely check out the new budget airlines that are now going in there. The flight itself takes about an hour; basically a Bay Area to LA area hop.
My scheme is to fly to Chiang Mai aboard Thai Airline's 747-400, on business class, to sit in the top of a 747, I always wanted to do that. For $80, its a steal, if I can away with it.
BTW, this was what I flew on the last time I got out of town in Bangkok, right over the Himalayas:
