Obvously the two biggies are 24hour and Bally's. I don't know where you guys are but these two should be in most metropolitin areas. 24hour has a special going on now $19 signup and $19 per month. The catch: this is only for three days per week; and I think they get to pick which three days. Bally's currently has a two-for-one special, a signup fee and $39 per month for a 3-year contract.
I can't remember a time when these clubs did not have a special going... some are better than others. Just pay attention to any restrictions on which clubs you can go to and when.

The worst times to sign up for a gym membership are right around New Year's Day -- all of those people resolving to loose weight, and now -- getting ready to be seen in public with less clothing.

Then there is always the YMCA. I have heard some people are satisfied with what they have to offer. I have never seen one, so I can't add to that.

I am sure that both 24hour and Bally's offer a free trial of a few days. I recommend that and do so when you think you will normally be going.

My favorite gym is "Hard Body" in Jomtien next to KR bar. It is a 3 story gym and has all the equipment i need. It probably isn't the nicest but it is usually slow and I can get on almost any machine. I usually buy a 2 week membership for 500 or 600 baht ($12.50-$15.00).

What are you guys doing talking about gyms? You should be doing push-ups in pattaya, but not on a machine.

You dust off this ancient old thread just to flame someone ??

Please note the thread topic WAS gyms.

Could that be why they were talking about gyms ??

Best gym is "Fitness One" under the A-one hotel on the beach. First rate machines/suana, air-con...This trip I tried "Tony's Gym" which is the largest/best known gym in Pattaya. Machines are OK but not the best, they have air-con but its always too hot inside the cardio room! Thai staff are friendy but English staff are morons.Does have a nice pool if you need that. Next time I'll return to Fitness One

I thought my matress @ Bella was a pretty awesome gym!

there don't seem to be too many hotels with fitness centers, at least at a reasonable price for a room. marriott, dusit, and some others have them but you pay an extra 1,000B or more per night for the benefit. not to mention joiner fees or possibly the dreaded no guest allowed at all.

bella villa prima has one but very limited for someone that is used to a "real gym". it was fine for me but i'm far from a gym rat. areca lodge on soi dianna has one but i never looked at it. when i stopped in to the lobby to inquire about a room there, they said they were booked all through nov (and i was asking in mid oct). i was just looking to get a week at anytime during nov to give the place a try.

stopped in at fitness one on soi 2 (can also access from soi 3). part of A One hotel as noted above. they were offering a day pass for 500B or a monthly for 5,000B. they did also have a monthly for two people at 6,000B (might have been some conditions to this husband/wife or something, not sure). seems a bit outrageous, maybe i misread the sheet they put in front of me. did look like a pretty nice facility though. if you spend a couple hours a day in there it might be worth it.

if anyone knows of a hotel with a fitness center and in-room internet, please post (assuming they allow guests and room price is reasonable for time of year).

Does anyone have any more current info? 500 Baht a day seems pretty outrageous, that is more than I pay for a day in the US when I travel.

Thanks

I was at Fitness One 10/01 to 10/12 and they offered me 2100 Baht for a week. That beat the 500 Baht per day rate for non guest. They are offering 5000 Baht for the month if youre gonna stay that long. I strongly suggest that you ask for the manager and chat with him. Other staff member cannot offer any specials.

i thought i'd posted my "discount" at A One fitness but i guess not. i stayed at bj holiday lodge for two months in early 2007. since A One is right across the street, i decided to give it a shot. i got 3,900THB for the month. i was also there in may and july (but stayed at baboona, right around the corner). i managed 1,750THB for one week.

they didn't know me when i got the 3,900THB/mo. but they did know me when i got the 1,750THB/wk, since i'd used the facility for two months earlier in the year. 2,100THB could be the best "discount" you can get if you are a first timer in there.

there is a new retail development, called The Avenue, across second road from soi 13 (dynasty inn, sandy springs, whitehouse, etc...). there is a California Fitness in this mall. it is large and has good A/C. quoted prices are:

800/day
1500/wk
3000/2 wk
5000/mo

i paid 1200 for one week. if you are staying on soi 13, this place is very convenient.
