Anyone ever stay @ Pattaya Marriott Resort & Spa 218/2-4 M.10 Beach Road?

Info regarding proximity and quality would be appreciated.

Any reason why it would not be included in reviews (i.e. strict mongering policy, etc)? I have plenty of Marriot points and would like to save the coin for the locals ;)

Sorry I can't give you a direct answer, but Pattaya hotels are so inexpensive that I would think it would be better to save your points for a lcoation where lodging is much more expensive. Unless you were coming up on expiration dates, I'm sure the points would save you a lot more money used elsewhere.

By Wombat88 on Monday, September 15, 2003 - 04:58 pm:  Edit

The Marriotts in Bangkok are primo. If you're going to use your points, there's a pretty good place to do so. Keep in mind, however, that they have a sign indicating "No guests." I think you can negotiate your way around this.

By Don Marco on Monday, September 15, 2003 - 07:20 pm:  Edit

that's what I feared. I hate resorting to greasing palms when we're talking volume. Do most of the major chains have that policy in LoS (i.e. hilton/sheridan)?

Don Marco, the Marriott on Sukhumvit Road in Bangkok, next to the Nana Hotel, is well known for being guest friendly. Many guys have posted on this board about not having any problems there. That might be an opportune place to blow your points. Er, pardon the pun.

By Wombat88 on Tuesday, September 16, 2003 - 04:33 pm:  Edit

Don Marco, when I said "you can negotiate around this," I meant negotiate, not bribe. If you both are well dressed and polite, you will go far. If she is well dressed, you will probably have no problem. However, if you drag a sloshed 20 year old go-go girl dressed in a tiny turquois tube top, gold lamé mini skirt and sparkly six inch platform shoes, singing dirty songs and giggling like a tart, well, you'll be making quite a statement when you try to idle past the other guests in the entrance lounge. Discretion, my friend, discretion.

By Khun_mor on Tuesday, September 16, 2003 - 05:53 pm:  Edit

The Marriott in Pattaya has a 1,000 baht joiner fee. Even with the fee I have heard they make the girl feel like shit when she comes in. Best to avoid if you plan on having guests. The rooms are small and not worth the price besides. Not up to the usual Marriott standards worldwide.
In general you are better off avoiding the chains in LOS -- IMHO.

JW Marriott by Soi Nana in BKK IS guest friendly but way overpriced ----again IMHO only.

By Don Marco on Tuesday, September 16, 2003 - 09:37 pm:  Edit

thanks Khun_mor, thats all I needed to hear. Penthouse hotel it is!

By Buffer on Friday, December 09, 2005 - 06:02 pm:  Edit

I stayed here for a week last month using Marriott Reward points. I brought a girl back to the hotel each night and had no problems. I did not have to pay any joiner fees and the staff was always very friendly.

By Gordob123 on Sunday, October 01, 2006 - 11:53 am:  Edit

Buffer,
I'm hearing that the Marriott Pattaya is fine -no joiner fee but use discretion. I've heard this now from about 4 recent sources. I too have a pile of Marriott points that I would like to unload but won't if the place is a problem. I'm staying at the Marriott BKK too. Thanks JWM! You're a bud.

By Roadglide on Sunday, October 01, 2006 - 03:01 pm:  Edit

I had NO problems bringing back girls to the Pattaya Marriott when I stayed there last month. No joiner fee either.

Nice hotel and the staff will go out of their way to treat you right!

Here is an update:
- I am getting the US government rate of $146USD / night, I booked it on the Marriott website. They did NOT ask for government ID upon check-in, so I guess all you non-military / non- federal types can get the rate too.
- The are very girl-friendly. There are four entrances you can enter exit, two through the Royal Garden Plaza shopping mall; one directly off of Beach Rd; and off course the main lobby. I have used all four and various hours of the day with no problem
- The rooms are nice, but why pay $146 when you can go to the Bella Villa Prima or the Vault for much less? However, if you have a buttload of Marriott rewards points to burn up, then stay here.(the hotel is Marriott Rewards category 3).
- The amenities are very good and the staff is outstanding. Great pool, good (but expensive resturants), and NO FREE INTERNET...wtf?

BOTTOM LINE: If you are coming on biz travel or want to burn points, then stay here; if you are paying out of you pocket, stay somewhere else!

By Wombat88 on Tuesday, May 15, 2007 - 03:01 am:  Edit

Yeah, as a category three hotel, Pattaya is an excellent Marriott rewards destination. It reminds me of the Kuala Lumpur Renaissance hotel. It's also a category three, but in an excellent location and a very nice hotel.

As for free internet. Nope. They charge you extra in the premium properties, but charge you for the internet connection. Dumb!

By Dave_the_rave on Tuesday, May 15, 2007 - 09:07 pm:  Edit

Blumpy, I have had friends say that the JW Marriott in BKK is better. They say that the food and the service is better. What do you think?

By Roadglide on Tuesday, May 15, 2007 - 11:07 pm:  Edit

The free breakfast that they serve is great. That along with the location, one entrance is right on beach road, and it's a short walk to walking street for finding your wife for the night.

Having to pay extra for internet does suck, and it's expensive for what you get. What I did was prepay a few hours for the WiFi in the lobby area, and pull up my E-Mail and check a few web sites then, log off and reply to all my E-Mail's off line, then log back on and fire them off. I was able to strech a few hours out for the week I stayed there.

DTR, the JW Marriott is the "premium" Marriott brand, and kicks standard Marriotts in the ass. The BKK JW is pretty good, but for the cost vs. amenities, I'll take the Majestic Grande ovet the JW every day.

By Dave_the_rave on Wednesday, May 16, 2007 - 10:11 pm:  Edit

Thanks Blumpy, I certainly think you pay for the "Marriott" name. Like you say there are better alternatives around. Thanks for the tour of the Majestic Grande, very nice indeed.

FYI - Matt (Boss AW) is in Pattaya Thursday May 17 and then returns to BKK on Friday. Swing by and see Matt if you get the chance.

Sunday Brunch! I just remembered that the Marriott started serving a fantastic Sunday brunch back in February. It's different from the usual Marriott. First, it's not even in the Marriott. They have it in the adjacent mall at the Benihana's. So, lots of sushi and seafood. Price is somewhere around 1100THB. When I was there, the wait staff were falling all over me in their eagerness to serve, "Sir? Would you like some more, sir?" Oh, how I miss Thailand.

1100 baht for breakfast ?? The waitress better be blowing you the whole time you're eating !

Let's see-- ST with a Soi 6 girl or breakfast ? I think I know which one I'll take.

I'll have a plate of grapow gai for 50 baht after 2 hours of Discovery Channel sex and still be ahead on the budget !

There's another option: have the brunch at the Marriott AND then go ST with a Soi 6 girl. I like to have my cake and eat her too.

Brunch is just a gay term for late breakfast.

By Wombat88 on Saturday, May 19, 2007 - 12:05 pm:  Edit

My poor misinformed friend. Referring to things you don’t understand as “gay” is, well, it’s kinda gay. You’ve obviously spent far too much time slouched bleary-eyed over bowls of Frosted Flakes and instant coffee to have never been introduced to that most civilized of feasts, the Sunday brunch.

You see, a proper Sunday brunch is not the sort of thing you drag your lazy carcass out of bed to fuel your booze-sodden body for a day of sanuking; it’s something for which you must deliberately prepare. It’s held in the later part of the morning to enable you time to wake up, have a good shag and work up an appropriate appetite.

There’ll be no scrambled eggs with ketchup at the feast, heaven forbid. No Pop Tarts or Eggo waffles either. The proper Sunday brunch is laden with hams, lambs, assorted fowl, roast beast, fish and crustaceans. I like the Marriott brunch because they have excellent sushi.

Of course that’s just the main course. I dare not mention the assorted deserts for fear that I shall gain weight at the mere thought of the delicious concoctions available.

Yes, I dare say there’s something for everyone at a good Sunday brunch. If you’re lucky, Khun_mor, they may even have your favorite, quiche.

Short time Soi 6??

I have got girls from Soi 7/8 for 1200/1300 (1000 + BF) long time the last two nights. Just to put that cost in prespective.

I wouldn't fuck the girls I saw on Soi 6 with THM's dick.

I wouldn't fuck the girls I saw on Soi 6 with THM's dick.

I wouldn't either. What's in that for me ??

Have to admit I have been busy elsewhere so have not perused Soi 6 for almost 2 years now. However, some of my all time best performers were residents of Soi Hoc. I cannot believe it's gone that far downhill.

By Knockkneedman on Sunday, May 20, 2007 - 11:06 pm:  Edit

I am sure given time you could find some nice lookers and I have gone through there during the day so am missing the girls that start at night. As a Pattaya newbee I am enjoying Soi 7/8 quite a bit and don't see any reason to go elsewhere for now.

You are there to please yourself not me. Glad ur having a good time. If you find a good thing go with it.

As I said I have not been on Soi 6 for quite some time although believe it or not I still get e mails from girls who reside on Soi 6. There are some gems there and they definitely know what to do with a dick !!

Chok dee krap !

Well, it's been awhile for me being in either place also, but if somebody's in hog heaven in Soi 7 & 8 beer bars, Soi 6 should in no way disappoint them, as lookers at those beer bars used to be few and far between.

Oh, and KM, have to laugh when you don't say a word about spending 150 USD a night on a hotel room, but suddenly get offended at paying 1100 baht for what I'm sure is a pretty fantastic meal! I thought you rolled first class across the board?

By Khun_mor on Monday, May 21, 2007 - 06:20 pm:  Edit

My friend Porker
Do you really think I was offended at the price of Wombat's meal ? I've taken harems to Nong Nual seafood restaurant and blown well over 9-10 K baht on a meal. Of course that was back in the good old days of 45 baht per dollar and no one had ever heard of a Euro except as an unwashed long haired curb hugger.

I'm just havin a little fun and I think Wombat knows that - at least I hope so.

I can count on one hand the number of times in all my years in LOS that I ever woke up in time to know what breakfast was. All my FREE breakfast coupons go unused. I don't know what time "Brunch" is but I'd likely miss that as well.

KM, PHEW! I thought maybe you got possessed by some cheap, evil (porcine?) spirit or something? Glad to hear we're not going to have to twist your arm to take you to the Jakarta Marriott for a feast when MongerX finally successfully convinces you to pay a visit.

Hmmm, but since our travel schedules are always permanently yin and yang, maybe Mx will have to give me a report on how many plates you put down at the Marriott buffet!

I think you should postpone your AC trip a couple weeks so I can sponge those free breakfasts off of you! :-)

By Wombat88 on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 - 03:13 am:  Edit

Ahhh, the Jakarta Marriott. I use the Bangkok Marriott as my gold standard for smörgåsbords. When I saw what the Jakarta Marriott had on offer I was impressed - so much so that I insisted on meeting the chef. Turns out he was the chef at the Bangkok Marriott for the previous years I was there! Small world. Of course, the executive lounge is so well stocked with food you'd never need go near the dinning room.

By Murasaki on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 - 08:22 pm:  Edit

The Jakarta Marriott blows the Bangkok one away as far as the size and selection go, though the quality is the same. The problem with the Jakarta Marriott is the god damn ride to get there. One hour and twenty minutes stuck in a taxi, and Murasaki is ready to blow a gasket. Cannot....take it.....must.... escape.

By Porker on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 - 08:38 pm:  Edit

By smitopher on Friday, December 07, 2007 - 12:55 am:  Edit

Well, I just spent a week here.

This is a DAMN FINE Place. There are WAY BETTER values in pattaya but I did not pay. Marriott rewards points. It is actually a very good value when using points.

I... uhm... had brunch... every day. It was EXCELLENT. The pool was spectacular.

I am Platinum status and they took it pretty serious. I was upgraded to a "Club Level" room. That included complementary in room broadband internet, access to the "club" and daily breakfast buffet. There were always very fine snacks and soft drinks in the club as well as a business center (all FREE).

OK, they upsold me. They showed me a suite, newly renovated. It was niiiiiice. Normally 10,000 baht per night. I payed 2K for the upgrade.

Perfectly guest friendly with the requirement to register your guest and have her turn in her id. Never gave me a problem or attitude, even when I had 2 guests.

Excellent location and quiet.

The beds... King sized and wonderful.
Bath... some serious fun was had in the spacious shower and the tub held my ample self and guest with room left over.

Everything was first rate (including the minibar prices)

The staff was unfailingly professional, warm and polite AND the female staff were achingly beautiful (but sadly, not available).

There was only one thing. The in room safe was not secured. You could pick it up and carry it away with you. Oh well, had to put my cash and passport in a safe deposit box at the front desk.

On this trip, I used Marriott points to stay at the Renaissance in Manila, Marriott in Cebu and Marriott in Pattaya. Pattaya was the least number of points and BY FAR the best place to stay.

I would even go as far as to say this was the BEST place that I have ever stayed while on a "mongering" trip.

Oh yeah... When checking in at 2:00 AM, 3 katoeys in full harlot regalia were leaving so I was pretty sure that they were guest friendly. This is a nice place full of regular tourists so use discretion but I had no troubles.

I even used the pool with 2 girls with no problem but it was after dark and it was empty. During the day it was quite busy with guests.

By Don Marco on Friday, December 07, 2007 - 06:08 am:  Edit

smitty, can't agree with you that this hotel is a good value point wise. Points have a cash value. @ 15k a night, your paying the equiv of 120USD (not including what you paid for your upgrade). If you got their bonus special of 10k/night, ok it's down to 80USD/night (little better), but then you paid another 2k baht (55 or so bucks, bringing your total to 135-175/night).

As a plat member you can request a free upgrade and if they have it available (i.e. empty room), they need to comp you or call marriot.

I stay @ the bkk marriot all the time, pay much less, get comped a suite neary EVERY time, and hotels in bkk are much more cash. TO compare hotels (and value) you look at what the competing hotels are charging, not a 1:1 hotel comp. Pattaya is a MUCH cheaper place to find a good room.

By Wombat88 on Friday, December 07, 2007 - 08:14 am:  Edit

Here, here! Pattaya Marriott is probably the best deal of all the Marriott properties (when factoring in the other advantages of the location). In January of 07 they moved their Sunday brunch to the Beni Hana's in the mall. Normally I'd stay away from such a place, but man oh man that was a fabulous time. Check it out.

My number two best value Marriott is Jakarta. Outstanding property and fabulous service.

By smitopher on Friday, December 07, 2007 - 11:13 am:  Edit

DM, I did get the "Point Saver" rate. 6 days @ 50K.

I used points for the Renaissance in Manila and Marriott in Cebu and I feel I got a much better value @ Pattaya. I understand your point though about comparing against competing hotels. Manila and Cebu are not in Pattaya.

I did ask about upgrading to the suite but according to them, I already had a 2 class room upgrade to a Club Level room. I got the same deal from Cebu and the Renaissance in Manila. Should I complain to Marriott? They do make an annoying point of mentioning that they have my Plat number every time I check in. BTW, I got my status by staying at Courtyard's and Fairfield's so I'm not to familiar with how thing work at the higher end properties.

quote:

From marriott website: Room Upgrade: Suites not included; upgraded accommodations at no additional charge. Based on room availability at check-in and limited to a member's personal guestroom.

I feel that the Marriott property is about two to three steps up from Dynasty Inn (I have stayed there) and the suites were even better. If I had to pay cash money, I would stay at Dynasty. Points may have a cash equilivent value, but they are not cash.

Mister W. Bat... Nothing was said about the Sunday brunch not being in the regular restaurant. The daily buffet was very excellent but I was a bit disappointed that Sunday was the same and not quite the Roman Orgy that was mentioned previously

By smitopher on Friday, December 07, 2007 - 11:26 am:  Edit

I checked the website, just to get a confirmed Club Level room with points, no Point Saver and it was 150K points. There were no awards for suites.

If I had paid for a regular room, I know I would of gotten a comp upgrade to a Club Level room. I wonder if they would of comp upgraded me to the suite?

By Don Marco on Friday, December 07, 2007 - 12:28 pm:  Edit

Smitty, point savers ain't as bad.

As for the comp'ed upgrade, your right technically suites aren't included-- however as a plat member, your already entitled to the club level room automatically, that isn't a comp per se (one of the benies of staying at a full service marriot vs a fairfield inn). BKK marriot, does however comp me suites around 90% of the time assuming they are available as does PI, SIN, and china marriots.

As for the points don't have cash value... they do! I assume that since your a plat member, your staying for business? If so, you can trade 130k points for 1k USD in marriot checks. Use these checks to pay for your rooms/means and you still get a receipt with itemized amounts for expense report purposes. I've paid for several complete trips this way over the years.

By smitopher on Friday, December 07, 2007 - 03:49 pm:  Edit

Wow, That's an interesting way to use points. I had kind of dismissed Marriott Checks as a poor choice for an award.

Does the folio indicate that payment was with "Marriott Checks"? If so, EagleEyes the AP Clerk will spot it and ask for an explanation.

By Don Marco on Friday, December 07, 2007 - 06:06 pm:  Edit

The bill will be your normal bill with all the charges and line items. Then at the end they enter your checks as a payment and balance it up.

However, just submit the bill they tuck under your door the evening before checkout. You give the marriot checks when you checkout in the morning and you get another final bill. Keep that for your records and submit the under-the-door one for expense purposes.

Either bill tho is legal for expense purposes-- the marriot checks are a form of payment, just like your credit card and don't affect reimbs.

By Phdmonger on Thursday, March 31, 2011 - 04:51 am:  Edit

Official hotel policy is no outside guests are allowed in the hotel rooms. However, there does not seem to be a consistent policy on enforcement. Sometimes they make girls register and charge you extra for the girl and sometime they just wave you off and sometime you can bypass the front desk altogether. I brought a few girls back and experienced all of the above.

If I weren’t a Marriott loyalist I would not stay at this hotel even theough the location can't be beat.

The above room is a deluxe room with sea view on the top floor and included Club Lounge benefits such as continental breakfast, etc. The price was 7,700 THB a night but I received a corporate discount of around 1,500 THB. There are more expensive as well as less expensive rooms available at this Marriott.
