This property was recently taken over by the same management company as the Omni Towers on Soi 4, but that's where the comparisons end. I stayed twice at the Omni and was pleased both times, but I really enjoyed the Somerset Lake Point. Why? I liked the location, about 350 yards in from Sukhumvit on Soi 16, easy walking distance to the Asoke Sky Train Station, Soi Cowboy and great shopping and restaurants on Sukhumvit. I also found the traffic in that part of town less congested than Soi 4. I also felt that Soi 4 catered more to English Soccer Hooligans and German Sex Tourists, something I could do without.

This serviced apartment complex contains two towers, the main tower is A, which houses the business center and Maxwell's where the included breakfast buffet is served. (Room Service is also dispatched from Maxwell's.) I was in Tower , which is on the other side of the parking lot and cannot be accessed without going outside. It has its own reception area, as well as great health facilities and a large, well-maintained pool on the 7th floor (the first 6 floors are a parking complex).

I stayed in a 1 bedroom suite (702) which had sliding glass doors that opened directly onto a deck overlooking the pool (Suite 701 is similar).

The suite contained a decent kitchen with full- size refrigerator, a nice modern living room/dining room, a bedroom with a firm queen-size bed and good closet space and a well-appointed bathroom with separate tub and shower stall. It even had a small room with a washer/dryer. The bedroom and living room each had satellite TV and there was a sound system with VCD player in the Living Room (You could rent VCDs from the business center). And there were separate air conditioning units in both the bedroom and living areas.

For the last week in August, 7 nights, I paid 2,500 baht per night. This included the breakfast buffet for two and taxi service to and from the airport.

The service was outstanding. Ask for anything and the staff is happy to accomodate you. There was always a doorman at the door and when I asked for a taxi, one always appeared within 5 minutes, even in the rain. Those who are more adventurous can use the 10 baht moto taxis that are always located near the driveway.

The clientele looks to be long-term businessmen and their families. As far as I could tell, I was the only "hobbyist" there, but I was treated with respect by all of the staff.

I don't know about in-room internet access, but the business center has four iMacs with high speed access, as well as a couple of Epson photo printers and a scanner. Business Center hours are from 8 - 8, closed on Sunday. Internet access is a little pricy, I think 4 baht a minute, but I never had to wait for a station, something that happened often at the Omni.

There is a great restaurant right next to the SLP called Kuppa, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I also made use of an upscale beauty salon called Arena and got great traditional Thai massage at Sans Pareil, which also doubles as a laundry/dry cleaner. Both are located right across the street from the SLP.

I'm returning to Bangkok in January and will absolutely stay here again.

Stayed her Nov 2007, It is a little bit away from the action but a nice change of pace for some peace and also good service. This place is down the street from the Citadines, which is on the same soi but deeper in.

While i was there, there were many business men thus making the pool very quiet (had it all to myself and my TGF).

They do book up for some reason and i ended up in a 3BR suite for 2500 per night (upgraded). It had a Washer/dryer, full kitchen, living room and 2 bathrooms and a great view of queens park. I even hosted a party for 15 people and had no problem.

Service is great location is a B-, sometime i had to take a little walk before getting a moto or taxi. Also some drives always pass by it when coming home late night.

The rooms are a little dated but i would say in better shape than the President Sol. (still #1 in my book).
