One Of the Park President chain. Just up Soi 11 from Grand President. Brand new and very upscale. All rooms have free DSL and wireless internet service and a 42" Plasma TV with 30 satellite channels. Wows the BG's -- downside - hard to tear them away from the TV. mesmerized by big screen TV. I stayed in the Platinum Suite-- only rooms with a jacuzzi for some soapy fun.
Has weekly and monthly rates. A bargain for what you get. Totally guest friendly but they stop any unescorted girls from going upstairs. Call your room and ask if you want her to come up-- they escort her to room if you say yes. If no-- you are not in . Walking distance to NEP and Skytrain is right at soi 11 on Sukhumvit. I highly recommend if you like a little luxury and comfort.

Wow. Guess I know where I am staying the next time I am in Thailand. Thanks KM!

Excellent prices for that level of luxury, too. Thanks, Khun_mor.

Is there a 24-hour room service? What is your experience with the housekeeping compared to 4/5 star hotels?

By Wickedwilly on Wednesday, October 08, 2003 - 12:55 am:  Edit

I found the service there excellent, you are allocated a person to look after all your needs (well nearly all). I used them for bookings and making arrangements. I offered tips, but the lady just said "this is my job". I found the PS superb, new, high quality and a nice place to stay. The Tuk Tuk helps with the trip to Sukhumvit, but the walk is not bad at all anyway.

If you can pay a little more than the usual GP, Majestic, Ambassador etc. or just want to treat yourself I would add the recommendations above.

By Khun_mor on Wednesday, October 08, 2003 - 03:34 am:  Edit

Room Service ends at 11 PM. Somewhat limited menu. Breakfast not included in price but I never wake up in time anyway !
Housekeeping is fantastic -- they even do your dishes if you leave them in the sink. There is a large electric hot water pot they keep filled on daily basis-- can make coffee, tea or instant noodles , Mama, anytime.

By Wallstreet on Monday, March 15, 2004 - 10:06 am:  Edit

I stayed there in January. The suite was great and the service was great. My only knocks were that check-in took forever and the elevators are very small and very slow.

Since I stayed there and recommended the place, two people have followed my advice, booked suites there AND WERE GIVEN THE SHAFT.

The first had to jump through hoops to get a reservation (then only could after I gave him the email address of my contact), then was given a suite that had a major leak, then was moved to another suite.

The second person (who just arrived on his first trip to Bangkok on March 13) was picked up by the President Solitaire driver AND DRIVEN TO THE PRESIDENT PARK. When he insisted that he knew the President Solitaire was on Soi 11, the driver relented and drove him there WHERE HE WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT HONOR HIS RESERVATION. After a lot of back and forth, they relented and said they had a suite BUT AT A HIGHER RATE THAN WHAT THEY CONFIRMED! He was able to get them to come down to the agreed to price - but is this the way you want to spend your first two hours in Bangkok? Especially if it's your first trip EVER to Asia?

Let me reiterate, I had a great time there, but I did note check-in took a long time. Obviously the front of the house needs to get itself in order.

I will no longer recommend the President Solitaire. I'm headed back to Bangkok in May and I'm still deciding where I'm going to stay (maybe the Diamond Suite at the Grand President - heard good things but have never been).

But for now, reserve at the President Solitaire at your own peril.

By Wickedwilly on Tuesday, March 16, 2004 - 05:34 am:  Edit

Bad news about the Solitaire. In my three stays I have always had the best of service, check in has never been a problem and when my room was not ready (I arrived early) they upgraded me! Guess now they are established they are forgetting the basics!

As for the Diamond Suite at the Solitaire, it was Ok, but a little basic in its decor, but lots of space. I actually preferred the Ambassador Royal Suites but access to it is a little off putting.

I am considering taking a suite at the Landmark next trip if i can get a reasonable rate.

By Wallstreet on Tuesday, March 16, 2004 - 02:43 pm:  Edit

I was really sorry to hear this story too, maybe it's an abberation. When I was there I had a great time and was well taken care of. I'm seeing a weekly rate of 20,000baht for the platinum suite at the President Solitaire thru Asia Travel. I think I still may book them for my May trip. The Kandmark looks awesome from the outside - great location too. Wonder what the suites cost there?

By Sugadaddy on Tuesday, March 16, 2004 - 09:02 pm:  Edit

Landmark is an excellent hotel, although a bit pricy. I got a room on the "club floor" for 3900 baht per night, about 2 years ago, and that included transportation to/from the airport on their Mercedes "limo." My "high-roller" friend stayed at a jr. suite and I believe he paid around 5000 baht per night. Of course, during the SARS scare last year, he was able to get the same jr. suite for 2500 baht.

Booking the Landmark through a package holiday deal sometimes is a reasonable way to get Junior suites at the Landmark, from the UK anyway.

I will keep an eye out for future comments on the Solitaire.

By Wallstreet on Wednesday, April 14, 2004 - 01:07 pm:  Edit

Well, my May trip is a month away and I decided to once again book at the President Solitaire. I took a hard look at a lot of hotels and found a deal for the PS thru www.asiatravel.com that was hard to beat. Here's my confirmation email:

Thank you very much for using Asia Travel
> Reservation Service and your
> reservation at the above hotel.
>
> Received news from the hotel and we are most pleased
> to confirm your
> reservation for a Platinum Suite room at baht
> 18,900++ exclusive of 10%
> service charge and 7% Government Tax per room per
> week (Not include
> transfer service & Breakfast) from 15 to 22 May 2004
> (7 nights) and at baht
> 3,000++ per night from 22 to 23 May 2004 (1 night)
> under the name of
> Mr.Andrew at President Solitaire in
> Bangkok.
>
> Remarks:

> · All payment should be made in local currency (Thai
> Baht)
> · Payment by credit card is subject to 5% surcharge

I paid closer to 4,000 baht a night in January, so even when you add in the extras, it's still a much better deal. Of course, January is the high season.

The communication from www.asiatravel was first rate. Whenever I sent an email, I would have a response when I checked my emails the next morning. Highly recommended.

By Khun_mor on Wednesday, April 14, 2004 - 06:01 pm:  Edit

Not a bad rate --- the rate on web site for Platinum suite is 3,400 per night with same extra charges. Your big savings are obviously on weekly rate -- ie 2,700 baht per night, They used to offer a weekly rate on website. Now only have monthly rate .

Thanks for heads up. I'll have to check this out in October !! I have used asiatravel before for other bookings and they have always been great.

By Khun_mor on Wednesday, April 14, 2004 - 10:25 pm:  Edit

BTW --- Wicked Willy and Wallstreet, I stayed at Pres Solitaire again in March and had usual great service and fantastic room. Got a deal on 1 bedroom penthouse as was not booked when I arrived. My only complaint remains the elevators one of which seems to break down frequently. Staff said they were "working on it " In Thailand that means "we'll think about when we MIGHT work on it ."

We used the electric tuk-tuk to Sukhumvit frequently. Saves a lot of walking and contrary to Omni they will take you whenever you request- not just every half hour. We even got picked up quite often as we were walking back to hotel as the door dudes know us well by now.

By Wickedwilly on Thursday, April 15, 2004 - 12:19 am:  Edit

Good to see the Solitaire is not deteriorating.

If you tip the guys at the front they will run you to most places in the near vicinity, even if the Tuk Tuk is out, they have a van. I have been taken to Nana and Cowboy before now.

I would like to know what the Penthouse Suites are like in the Solitaire. Anyone know if they are much better than the Platinum or Solitaire suites?

By Khun_mor on Thursday, April 15, 2004 - 09:43 pm:  Edit

The Penthouse suite is a bit bigger than the Platinum or Solitaire -- better furnished, Has a balcony but who the f**k is going to sit out on the balcony in BKK ?? I was able to get a great deal on mine as it was empty when I showed up. I do not think it would be worth the extra cost at what they usually charge -- at least the room I had. There are 8 penthouse suites and I hear they are all different. I probably had the smallest one given they gave it to me so cheap.

I did not even tip the door dudes and they offered to take us via the van or tuk tuk to NEP or to local massage joint on soi 19. Of course I was with Da and they REALLY liked her !!

By Wilster on Monday, July 12, 2004 - 12:06 am:  Edit

heads up guys! the best way to book the solitaire is directly. You avoid the 7% VAT this way. napasorn@presidentsolitaire.com
Her name is Kun Oil!She will give you a deal if you stay a month or sometimes even if it's just a week!Just tell her you stayed there before!

By Gitano on Friday, August 06, 2004 - 06:38 pm:  Edit

Does the Penthouse suite contain a jacuzzi like the Platinum suite ? Anyone know what the markup is from the Platinum to the Penthouse ? Solitaire web site currently showing 3600 baht a night for Platinum and no weekly rate. I imagine I can beat this thru other sources. Comments ?

By Khun_mor on Friday, August 06, 2004 - 09:44 pm:  Edit

The Penthouse suite I had was without jacuzzi. Had seperate shower and bathtub though which I like. I am booked in Platinum again. They wanted 6,500 baht per night for Penthouse. No way worth that. Not that much better than Platinum.

BTW they do not do weekly rates anymore only monthly.

By Khun_mor on Friday, August 06, 2004 - 09:55 pm:  Edit

Gitano

I do not believe there are other sources for the PS. It is not listed on hotel sites . I do not think lower rates are available anywhere.
They must have raised their rates. I am booked at 3,400 per night . Reservation made about a month ago though.

By Gitano on Saturday, August 07, 2004 - 05:00 am:  Edit

Much thanks Kuhn Mor. I have a freind in Bangkok looking into it for me. Really like what I am reading about Presidential Solitaire, but the price is considerably more than LakePoint or President Park, which also sound good. Btw, when will you be there ? I am in Bangkok for Labor Day week. This is my third initial trip. Had business problems first two times. I have scheduled 4 Thai trips over the next six months. I have found your posts to be informative and could easly be coerced into buying you a beer. later.

Mai bpen rai Khun Gitano.

I will not be there until Oct 16 and leave Nov 9. Be great to meet you if you happen to be there. I definitely think it is worth the extra baht. Great staff and great rooms. I do not stay anywhere else now.

I could stay for FREE at Da's 1 bedroom apartment but choose to return to PS. I do have a few side motives for doing so of course.

By Sojourner on Sunday, August 08, 2004 - 12:44 am:  Edit

Khun Mor,
I got upgraded last month at the Solitaire to a penthouse suite, and mine had a jacuzzi (big enough for 2) with the shower head in the jacuzzi. Since the jacuzzi was so big, the shower/jacuzzi wasn't enclosed though, so it was a bit airy for my tastes. Also, there was no elevator service to my room. I had to go to the top floor and walk up a flight of stairs. Normally, that wouldn't be a big deal but a couple weeks before I had had a motorbike accident in Phuket with my teerak ja and my knees were still healing from it, and not particularly appreciative of having to climb the steps. Frankly, I don't think the penthouse rooms are worth the premium they charge for them, since the Platinum rooms are pretty nice.

By Gitano on Sunday, August 08, 2004 - 08:09 am:  Edit

Khun Mor,

We will miss each other coming and going, but I am sure we will connect at some point. Interestingly enough my Thai friend could not match much less beat the Farrang rate. Curious indeed.

By Khun_mor on Sunday, August 08, 2004 - 02:21 pm:  Edit

Sojourner- I believe all eight of the Penthouse rooms are different. I met the guy who was in the room accross from me and his room was totally not same same. He did not have a jacuzzi though. We were on the first Penthouse floor so no climbing required. One oddity in my room was the entire kitchen and the bathroom sinks were in the same hallway leading to the shower and toilet. Economy of space I guess. Da and her friends got a huge laugh out of seeing the bathroom and kitchen together.
Total agreement with the premium in price FAR greater than the upgrade in room.
Gitano--
The President chain is owned by an Indian dude. I met him last year on the shuttle tuk-tuk. He introduced himself and the driver verified he was the big kahuna. You gotta have an Indian connection I guess.

By Gitano on Saturday, December 18, 2004 - 09:40 pm:  Edit

Stayed here on my September trip. All is as said above. Very nice place, but a little pricey. After taxes etc. you are paying close to $100 US a night. I for one found the walk to Sukhumvit to be easy money. Would use again if I had a special friend to please, but I seem to be settling into a few days in BKK and then make a side trip.

Oh, I went with the Platinum Suite and the jacuzzi is just fuckin huge. Bring 3 girls home.

I got upgraded over thanksgiving, not sure if it was because I have stayed there before, but more likely they didn't have any platinum suites. I had the upstairs suite, my buddy had the suite downstairs without and enclosed shower. The rooms were nice, but I am happy with the giant jacuzzi in the platinum suite. It is pricey compared to other places in Bangkok, but if you want to live nice, it is a great place. When you only get a few weeks vacation a year, it is nice to live good. The walk to nana is EASY, and you can always find late night entertainment on the way home.

Stayed in this hotel last week, I have nothing but praise for this place the staff are very friendly and personal the platinum suite is amazing and i also think its very good value for money compared to my room at the landmark which imo was pricey for what you get.I think my room was the one in the picture at top of page (room 702) my friends also had platinum suites which are all the same except the views were nothing special ask for room 702 because at least you can see the girls outside genesis. i paid 4000 baht per night in june, it a small walk to nana but there are always taxis outside to take you anywhere.
summary: great place to stay I was always well looked after, you can ask for your room to serviced as many times as you want so great for after your midday short time.
will be staying here again on my next trip.

I always stay at the President Solitaire when in Bangkok on business and always get great service, for many of the reasons previously mentioned. I have been upgraded at least 75% of the time since I've been such a regular visitor the last 2 years. Awesome memories from my last trip involving the jacuzzi, a beautiful bronze 21 year old, and too much bubble bath. Regarding booking, become a registered user of their website and just book direct. Very convenient at www.presidentsolitaire.com.

By Explorer8939 on Tuesday, July 26, 2005 - 02:36 pm:  Edit

My experience is that the jacuzzi suites are generally sold out.

Really ?? I have never been told that they were sold out. I prefer the Solitaire Suite anyway- bigger, better layout, and CHEAPER ! Rarely use the jacuzzi and I hate the shower being in the jacuzzi. A major minus for the Platinum suite IMO.

JUST booked through asia travel. Hope there are no snafus liike one of the poster mentioned above.

Bangkok is just my layover until the show begins in Pattaya. Met a real sweet chica last time and a wot po graduate. she really loved the tv so i think she'll be happy watching the tv whilst i go around town distributing my baby batter.

Concur with all of the positive comments about the Prez Sol. The 24 hr room service is a plus when my BG and I return after a night of partying, and she can call down and order just about any Thai dish she likes.

The staff and facilties are outstanding!

By Bowler on Wednesday, October 25, 2006 - 08:46 pm:  Edit

now that i stayed. Nothing but 10's across the board for President Solitaire. I Check in was sitting at a desk with a very fuckable nice girl.

Free breakfast was good not fantastic but lets see, salad bar, fruits, baked beans, potatoes, bacon, sausages different types, fast on the coffee, about 4 cereals to choose from, soups, and omlette lady ready to make any omlette you like, more but i forgot.

Swimming pool is bigger than it looks in the picture and hardly anyone uses it.

Desk that can book your tours but you should still show up and know what you want in advance by internet research.

Guy that salutes you and presses elevator door for you and no girl is going to suprise you at your room.

Exercise room looked good but after humping all night you exercise enough i say.

Plasma as promised but the Thai girls worship it. God damn they love TV.

pictures are accurate and better than mine. Don't like the jacuzzi because i like the other set up.

I reccomend Mr Toi. he is a taxi driver that camps out in front of the hotel and will be at your beck and call.

Staff all first rate and friendly.

The minuses: the taxi driver won't know how to get there. Just tell him soi 11 then tell him to go allll the way to the end then make a right at the 7-11 then the first quick left and you are there.

You'll love this hotel

Get ready to have your girl cry her eyes out in your arms when you are going to leave.

I lived at President Park on soi 24 the first 6 weeks I moved here. It was top-notch (if pricey by local standards). I understand that President Solitaire is even nicer.

Manos.

By Whitty on Friday, October 27, 2006 - 09:19 pm:  Edit

If you use the internet, click on the "special internet rate", it is still about $100 US/night, but the rooms are great, staff is good and a very nice place to stay, although on this next trip i am splitting my time between the solitaire and the grand majestic (want to check it out)

By Blazers on Friday, October 27, 2006 - 11:43 pm:  Edit

That shows the type of mongers that are going to Thailand now where $100 a night for a hotel is nothing. If someone is paying that much for a hotel, how much do you think they are paying for tips to the girls at the end of the night? I guess the exception to this is if someone can write it off if they are there on business.....ie, Japanese.

By Whitty on Saturday, October 28, 2006 - 07:31 am:  Edit

Blazers, I have stayed in $100 hotels and I have stayed in $15 hotels. That doesn't mean I overpay. They are two very separate things. It means I am lucky enough to have the ability to stay higher end when I want to. When you only get a few weeks off a year, and you save all year, why not stay in a place that is still cheaper than the Holiday Inn in Cleveland, yet as nice as a high end hotel in a major city?

I consider life a gift, this afternoon I could get hit by a bus walking across the street, so why not enjoy it.

Stayed there on my last two trips: 2/14-2/25 & 4/7-4/14.

The hotel is still in good shape after all these years and the staff is excelent.

I did get a little bit of noise from Bed Club one night, they had a guest DJ that played a little loud. This was only one night the rest were quiet and peaceful.

GL
Two thumbs up still.

did have a snafu at the check in last time. I wasn't in the system. Gave a copy of my email confirmation from Asia Travel and the manager made a call and they confirmed it and was on my way.

They said it was better to book directly with them.

By Jurgen01 on Thursday, September 25, 2008 - 07:28 pm:  Edit

Used their internet site to book. No problems

I arrived a 7:30 AM in the morning. They checked me in right away. I was surprised. Their comment, "we are not full."

Stayed in the Platinum Suite with Jacuzzi (see pictures above). Very spacious.

The Jacuzzi (see picture above) was great. Big enough for two.

Large TV is nice. But I do not think it is as big a deal as it was a couple of years ago.

Fast internet direct connect. I believe they also have wi fi, but I never used.

Overall, two thumbs up. Very upscale and worth the extra baht.

They have a web site for booking. The rooms are much larger and nicer and they are just an all around great deal. However, they will ask for id cards if you enter late in the evening with your girl. During the day or early evening, you can just walk in and your guest can stay overnight and no one asks for a card. It is only if you walk in late with a girl that they hold her id card until she leaves in the morning. I highly recommend this hotel. It is walking distance to most everything and they will give you a free tuk tuk ride to the Skytrain at the end of the street. Rates for a really nice suite are under 100 US per night. You can negotiate lower rates for long stays.
