I am currently halfway through my first trip to Thailand (staying in Pattaya), and I must say I am having a blast! However, perhaps it's just my imagination, but it seems that on more than one ocasssion I've had bar girls and go-go girls give me "less than positive" opinions about American farangs.

And last night, when I was hanging out at a beer bar on Beach Road watching the Muay Thai fights, I started to agree. In fact, what I saw made me quite ashamed to be an American here.

After one of the bouts, two black Americans (African-Americans, negros, brothers, etc.) walked up to the winner of the fight. One of them loudly said, "My bro' here will kick your fucking ass!" I thought this was pretty fucking stupid behavior on the nigga's part -- it was an unwarranted act of violence in a country where the people are Buddhists (ie. non-violent and humble), and in a sport that pertains more to honor tradition than violence. I further thought the nigga's actions were bad, because he was at least 250 pounds and full of muscle, whereas the Thai was scrawny and skinny (as most Thai men are).

The bar girl that was serving me, saw this, and said, "American fah-lung" while slightly shaking her head. I'm sure inside, she had quite some contempt for his actions.

Later that evening, I went towards the back of the beer garden to look at the tattoo shop (Tattoos by Tiger). I'm a professional tattoo artist by trade, and although I'm not particularly impressed with the lack of sterile procedures here in Thailand (they don't use steam autoclaves to sterilize their equipment. Rather, they use dry-heat sterilizers, which is not considered the most effective method of sterilization), I decided that this particular artist's (name is "Bali") procedures and technique were adequate. So I decided that I will get tattooed by him before I leave.

Just then, the same group of African-Americans (now there were five of them, with three cheesy-looking bargirls in tow) come barging into the small tattoo shop, and loudly start acting like they own the joint. I can't exactly say what specific behavior irritated me the most...just that, if they walked into MY shop back home in the States (I own two shops in Hawaii, and employ five tattoo artists and three body piercers), I would immediately kick their rude asses out.

But Bali handled them very well. He maintained his calm, Buddhist temperament, and eventually ended up tattooing one of them. Kudos to him!

Anyhow, apart from being an outrageous sex experience for me (sex back home will never be the same for me...not after having so many threesomes with perfect-bodied Thai women here!), I've also realized that we Americans aren't the center of the universe. The saying, "When in Rome, do as the Romans" should be studied and adhered to by all Americans travelling abroad...especially when travelling to Asian countries where saving face and holding an even temperament are highly valued characteristics.

To come here, acting like Boyz In The Hood ghetto gangstas, is just inappropriate behavior that sheds a bad light on all American farang.

Like one of the bar girls told me...it's a good thing I look Oriental, or even Thai. I'll get into less trouble. And once I learn how to speak Thai, life will be even better for me here in Thailand.

Black and red inks tend to show up best on negros. Of course, the darker the skin, the less visible/vibrant the resultant tattoo.

Speaking of American farang...

Last night I barfined Noy again (from Polo a-go-go). She was the one I BF'd a couple nights earlier, but gave me a lot of drama at the end of our date and told me she didn't like American fah-lung ("Too much hurt inside. Japanese better. No hurt, finish five minute." She was referring to sex).

I barfined her again because, despite her dislike of Americans when it comes to sex, we really had a great time at Xzyte Disco. And I was more in the mood for hanging with a familiar face last night, rather than finding the hottest chick -- even if that familiar person happens to dislike me because I'm an American who can hold his nut for quite some time in bed.

Anyhow, to make a long story short....BF'ing Noy again was a bad mistake. Sex wasn't great, and after 15 or 20 minutes and I still didn't orgasm, she started to complain. In the middle of the act, she said, "Why I no go with Japanese tonight? Why I go with you instead?" This immediately killed my woody, and no way in hell was I gonna be able to get off on her tonight. After showering seperately, I gave her a 500B tip (which she loudly complained about but, oh well!) and sent her on her way.

(I ended up having to BF a girl from the Kitten Club at 2 a.m., just so I could get a nut off. This girl, though not the greatest looker, was VERY eager to please. Her name is "Mot." She earned all of the generous 1500B tip that I gave her for short time.)

Noy's number at Polo is 112. She's real fun to be with, but doesn't enjoy sex at all. She grimmaces whenever she's in bed, and wants to get it over with quickly. So be careful if you end up at Polo, and decide you want to BF her. Especially if you're not Japanese...

Good observations Bear. I have been to Thailand twice and plan to return in March/April. Pattaya is my least favorite. Too many drugs, too many lady-boys and too many assholes (like the ones you speak of). Outside of Pattaya you don't see too many blacks (African-American/non-military that is). I even had one girl ask if there are many blacks in the US. Anyway in BKK, I thought the Germans were assholes because of the way they acted and treated the girls in public. Oh well, enjoy the rest of your trip.

im a black guy from the uk or nigga {has you like to refer to us as} ive just come back from pattaya 3 weeks ago and i must admit i seen some black american farangs acting the fool but also saw twice as much white amercian's acting the fool so i think its unfair for you to single out a few black people for the bad reputation some of you black and white amercian's have created. going there for me as a black person from the uk was great much love and attention was given to me by all thais i came in contact with {hey i even found a long time non bar girl GF} even met her family in khorat but anyway im in the process of doing a trip report so i soon give you guys the full details soon

I hope I didn't offend you with the "nigga" reference. To be honest, a couple of my good friends are black, and so is my manager at one of my shops. We shoot the shit all the time...ALL the time. So I just got into the hang of saying "nigga" because, quite frankly, that's what my boys always refer to themselves as (ie. "Da nigga be ballin' tonight!" and "nigga don't play that!" etc. You know what I mean).

You and I both know that "nigga" is an affectionate term for black people (I, personally, try not to use the word "black" because it describes a person based on the color of his skin, which is wrong. "Nigga," on the other hand, is a home-town self-descriptive affectionate slang for "negro," which is a shortened version of "negroid," which describes a person based on his race. And THAT is more politically correct, in my opinion, than "black." I also don't use "African-American," because -- as is the case with you -- not all negroes are American.)

Anyhow, the brothers from UK seem to be more civilized than the niggas from America. Hey, take a look at Lennox Lewis...then compare him with Mike Tyson! <grin> I can't imagine a UK brother going up to a Thai boxer in the middle of the beer garden, and loudly proclaiming "I'll kick your fucking ass!" (or, "focking arse")
