I don't own a camera--at least, not one that I'd want to take on a trip with me to Angeles. If I buy a cheap disposable one, is there someplace in Angeles that I can get the film developed and images put onto a CD? Alternatively, is there someplace I could rent a camera from & put in my own memory chip? I could buy a digital camera I suppose -- they've come down in price -- but I'd like to know my options before I go.

S man has the all time highest rated photo on the board that he took with a $99 digital camera.
worth it having your own and being able to transfer photos from your camera to your lap top or PC

Ok, S man -- you the man.
Any recommendations for a $99 camera...?

I got a decent Vivitar Vivicam 3695 2 Megapixel digital camera on sale at Frys for $88. It takes very decent snapshots and is pretty small too. I have a nice Pentax but will use the Vivitar in "at risk" situations. I've seen 2 Megapixel cameras under a hundred at Walmart too. Any 2 Megapixel camera with a flash will take decent snapshots inside a room. Just watch out for 2 Megapixel "interpolated" bullshit which is really only 1.3MP. In Angeles city there was an Internet cafe across McAruther Highway at the end of Fields that told me they would burn my pictures from my digital camera on a CD for ~$3. I didn't use the service though.

Yes you can easily get your disposable camera developed. I go to Agfa camera store next to JJ Market in Angeles city, but many other places can do it.
If you buy one I strongly advise you buy a Kodak. A little more expense but worth it for the quality. The Fuji one I bought in the states had very washed out colors and I was very disappointed. The Kodak one I bought at Agfa for 500p ($9.25) gave very good quality photos.
I'm not a photo buff like some, so I do not use digital yet. However, the cheap ones you can buy does make sense.
Putting it on a CD can be done at Rick's Cafe. Don't know the cost but go to his website and I am sure you can find out.

Wayne, thanks for the info. When's your next trip to AC?

The Vivitar Vivicam 3695 2 Megapixel digital camera is on sale at Frys again for $77 this week. Get one fast because they are $140 when not on sale. The biggest advantage of a digital is that you can show the lady her picture immediately. The AC girls LOVED seeing there picture in that little digital camera screen. In the bars I just showed one girl how to take a picture and play it back and then she would run around the bar and photograph all of her friends and they would all crowd around my table in a big giggling mob to see there pictures. It was pretty cool, and you could not get that response without a digital camera. Even out in the countryside kids were always following me around in the streets trying to get me to photograph them and then they would just get totally thrilled when they saw themselves on that tiny little screen. I had the same results in Thailand as well. The bargirls just love a digital camera. Turn it on, show on how to use it and they will go nuts.

Porker, wish I knew, just got back Oct. 27. Whatever it is, it is going to be too damn long. Good to be on this board with the rest of you.

Wayne, Sancho thanks for the info. After Wayne's posting, I was strongly tempted to take disposable cameras--with my luck, the digital camera gets ripped off with ALL my pictures on the last day of the trip. But I like what Sancho is saying--use the camera to get some pics AND as an icebreaker.
The too, some of us have to have something to do between rounds....

Wayne_acmap, I'm a little slow. I just now figured out you are the Wayne_acmap that is responsible for "Wayne's AC Map" (see how smart I am, I figured that all out on my own) I found your map invaluable on my first trip and printed it and carried it with me. I found your web site but did not know you were a CH member. Anyway, thanks for the map. It's a very nice and most helpful piece of work.

Atravel, a cheap digital camera is certainly worth it -- the pics will keep the warm and fuzzy feeling you get from such a trip for many months afterwards, and digital is soooo much easier than fooling with regular pics. You can upload the photos at a net cafe and press a CD if you're worried about losing the pics.

Thanks Porker--I'm assuming upload from the camera is pretty straightforward--either it hooks up with a cable or you put the chip into a pcm-cia adaptor and pop it into the slot--something like that? (Now that I think about it, "pop it into the slot" is something I hope to be doing a lot of).
This has probably already been done, but I'd like to thank Wayne for making, posting and keeping up to date his Very Fine Map. Whenever I read something about AC, I look it up and find it on that map--at the rate I'm going, it might be etched in my brain by the time I get to AC. Talk about deja-vu all over again....
atravel (damn! still have 38 days to go)

Thank you I am Sancho and Atravel. The map is done with the help of a couple of guys from Go2phil where I mostly hang out at. Jungle Jim is an expat who lives in AC and does the leg work as it were. Sends me the information that I put on the map. The Prophet is the Webmaster and gets everything up and runing. Blazer is a member now over at Go2phil and I think Porker might be also? Anyways thanks for the kudos hope to see all of you in AC someday.
