Based on some very recent info I've heard you do NOT want to stay at Dynasty in BKK. I repeat, do NOT stay at Dynasty BKK.
There has been some sort of shift with the management. This has resulted in surly staff attitudes. ZERO guest accommodation. And several VERY UNHAPPY reports coming out of this hotel. I also understand that they have installed some kind of plastic liner on all the beds which has illicited a NUMBER of unhappy comments about the beds.
I'd suggest looking at Majestic or the Omni Suites. Omni is really a serviced apartment rather than a hotel, but a very nice place, with a great location.

So now in addition to stealing your stuff they can be rude to you too?
Is the breakfast still good?

Plz confirm what`s written here,it`s URGENT coz i always stay there and it never happened that they complaint about guests!!,and i`ll be going there shortly so perhaps i got to e-mail them 1st to make sure that they still accept room guests!.

Ron,
Note the date on the re-post of Strike Eagles comments. I stayed there Nov. of 2002 and had NO problem with anything. Strike Eagle's post is WAY out of context as re-posted on this thread.

McDiJJ,
Thanks for clearing things out and perhaps i was taken by surprise when i read the post saying thier staff has been changed but now after i read ur msg,i feel somehow releaved coz i myself have stayed there last july and had no problem(to the extent that staff there give u the feeling that they dont exist!)and onething i like about that hotel is that u dont have to walk through reception with ur guest(the rooms building is separate from the main one).......lets hope everything still the same!.

Status Report as of 03/18/2003:
I arrived in Bangkok on 03/15/2003. I originally had reservations at the Nana Hotel, but it only had the standard room available. Nevertheless, I booked a room. I had some real doubts about their standard room since I had stayed in one back in 2000. The standard room's bed was two twin mattress pushed together. I was hoping that the Nana Hotel had since improved on their standard room. Well, I checked in, looked around my standard room, and walked out. The standard room hadn't changed from 2000. If their deluxe or suite was available, I would have stayed.
I walked across the street to the Dynasty. I had stayed their before and was satisfied. There's no comparison between the Dynasty's 950-baht standard room and the Nana's standard room. The Dynasty is far superior. I would recommend staying there.
I'm a little perplexed at the opening post about the Dynasty. I stayed there in 2001 or 2002 (I can't recall) and they've always been guest friendly. The staff has always been courtesy to me.
I recall someone on this board complained about plastic sheets on the bed. I never encountered that problem or heard of anyone else having that complaint. I can only speculate that perhaps that person had a bed-wetting or other personal hygiene problem and the plastic sheet was the hotel's solution.
In comparing apples-to-apples or standard room-to-standard room, the Dynasty wins. In comparing extras, the Nana wins if you're a big breakfast eater and want a swimming pool (although still under construction). The activity in the Nana's lobby and adjoining disco could also be a plus, but since the Dynasty is so close, it doesn't matter.
I agree with above post. I've stayed at the Dynasty numerous times and had no hassle. Friendly service and good food.
Tip for newbies, get a room with 4 digit number instead of 3 (older rooms).
Cheers,
Actually I'm enjoying the Superior Deluxe rooms waaaAAAAAAAaaaaay in the back. The rooms are HUGE and some have a nice view of the city. From my last room I had a nice view of the back of NEP (girls changing and flirting) and Bus Stop Beergarten. Best deal at reasonable rates...
Life is good.
E
By far the best bang for your buck in BKK. I stayed there for three nights for the first time last week and was very impressed with the new rooms. I had zero problems with bringing girls back, even two at a time. The only drawback is that the girls assume you only want short time as the hotel is so damn close to Nana.
"Girls assume you only want short time..." This is bad...? heheh
E
Now there's an idea Blazers! Get a cheap Dynasty room for short time Nana fun and a room at the Omni or Grand President for sleeping and/or the gf/wife.
drew
The only question is if Mrs. Drew has the place wired.
SE
I'm shocked SE. Shocked I tell ya'.
I would NEVER do such a thing MYSELF!
(and if I did, Mrs D would be in a serviced apt near Siam Plaza or somewhere else MUCH farther from Nana than Omni!).
T'was simply an idea that passed through the "old butterfly" portion of my brain.
Besides, my wife is too damned handy with a knife.
drew
Drew, I no longer have a gf. Her family does not want her to leave Thailand as she is the youngest girl and is expected to take care of her old mom. I am moving on to the Phillipines for a little while now.
BLazers,
I happen to know of a college educated large breasted suay mak Issan girl (daughter of a village headman) who is looking for a lau mak fan.
When the wife told me about her the first person I thought of was you!

Dynasty Inn was an insanely good value in an incredible location. The room was immaculate, brand new looking, not huge, but one of my standard rooms had a GREAT view. And a tad less than 1000 baht a night. I have no idea what led Strike Eagle to post that at the very beginning of this thread, but it sounds like complete bull to me. If there is a better decently priced option in BKK in a better location I'd loved to hear about it.

I've shopped around in the area and Dynasty seems the ultimate deal. I saw places that are 250B-300B less and they all were mildewed, ill-kept, had shoddier furniture -- that extra $7 makes a lot of difference. I checked a few places that are 250B-300B more, and they also seem inferior to Dynasty.
Take note of the beggars who line up outside of DI. They fight over the spots. Sometimes they show up early and hang around without begging, like workers waiting for their shift to begin.

Does this place have internal massage girls? If so, are all the extras avaliable and is it worth it - price, looks??
I'm arriving in a couple day here!!
I believe that there is non-sex Thai massage available in the hotel. However, there is no reason that you can't bring an outside massage girl to your room.

Traffic into town was light in the early afternoon and the worst part was going down Soi Nana Nua (3) to get to Sukhumvit Soi 4. Dynasty had my reservation, but didn’t have any rooms available in the back so I settled for one up front on the second floor. Oh well. No views of the city for me.

Just stayed here for a few days.
The good:
- price, about $23/day, in high season
- location, just a stone's throw from NEP
- clean
- everything worked
- free safety deposit boxes up front (they
give you one of the keys needed to open it)
The bad:
- small room (note that Porker's pic above
shows almost the whole room)
- my room had a nice view of the wall outside
- hard mattress, felt about like a piece of
sheetrock with a few blankets on top
- no in-room safe
Although I appreciate ole Ep's getting me a room when full, I wouldn't recommend this hotel unless your in one of the newer wings/buildings.
My room was cramped, run down, the hot water was very iffy, and the view terrible.
On the positive side, the breakfast was very good and the staff was very friendly and attentive.

I have only stayed in an older room at Dynasty once. It was merely OK, and actually had a GREAT view of Soi 4 and Melody UK across the street, as well as a bathtub. That being said, I also far preferred the new wing.
But I'm not sure I understand the negative comments here. 990 baht (high AND low season -- never varies) is a pretty frickin' good deal on an even DECENT hotel room in that location, and the place is very professionally run and offers decent amenities to boot. That Dynasty's new rooms are generally better than decent - GLEAMINGLY clean in the new wing - always has me shaking my head when I'm somehow still fortunate to get a room there. If there's a better option out there for that kind of money within spitting distance of ground zero in BKK I'd love to hear about it.
I paid 1200b/d. And while I totally agree the hotel has good service and amenities, I found the old wing rooms below my living standard. I think the new wing rooms are decent though. If they weren't available, I would much rather pony up more baht and stay elsewhere.
DM, You paid 1200b/d for Dynasty Inn Bangkok?!??!??? I've never heard of ANYONE paying more than 990b/d! And I've only stayed in the NEW wing.

I can go double check the bill, but I believe that was what was quoted.
The web site now shows their rates to be 1090 Bht a night.
By Porker on Friday, January 07, 2005 - 07:22 pm: Edit |
They have rooms that are bigger than the basic rooms that cost more. I've been in an 1100 baht room and I know Epi usually books one that I think is 1300 baht.
Re: 1090 baht, it's amazing that they haven't raised their rates before now.
Their charging 1200/night for regular rooms and 1400/night for the BIG rooms in the new wing. The big rooms will soon be increasing in price as well.
The older rooms do indeed suck fat ass. I've had a few and now will take my business elsewhere before staying in one of those pits. If they can't provide a decent room for that 1200, then I'll go to OMNI, pay double, and get a GREAT FUCKING ROOM!!
E
Exactly my point ep. I think I'm done with bkk for quite a while considering the number of venues on the plate.
By Porker on Saturday, January 08, 2005 - 04:47 pm: Edit |
My good fortune in getting a room apparently continues. Price in BKK is now supposedly 1090 baht as listed on the website.
I'm planning on staying at the Dynasty in both in BKK and Pattaya. How is the best way to book rooms here? On the internet? Over the phone? Through my US based travel agent? Are any of these methods likely to get me a beter rate?
The prices on the internet are the same prices you get when booking via telephone or internet. Personally, I just call the hotel and book that way, but most of the front office staff know me by my Thai name making it easier for me to book a room. If you give the email a try let me know how it works out for ya.
E
Epi-- I stayed in the new building the other night and it was like night and day. Great value, service, and location... Just stay away from the older rooms!
Your a bit of a celebrity here-- I got the usual "where's ******* when I walked in?!"
Lau?
So... my girls remember me. Do you remember WHICH one(s) asked for me?
When I first started going to DI they had a BUNCH of girls that were DEFINITELY worth fucking. In the last few years they've scattered to the wind... except for two of them - the HOTTEST two in my opinion. Looking to head back there soon for some more flirting...
E
Don't recall the name as she was a tad older and not hot.
Ahhh - 'nuff said.

Hi Guys:
I am booking into Dynasty Inn. Which kind of room should I ask for? New or old building(wing)?, Specifically ask for a Big room? I got an e-mail from them noting that the new wing has "only a bathtub". Don't know what it means. Have never stayed in Dynasty before. Any advice is appreciated.
New building does NOT have bathtub. Ask for rooms in the new building that end in 11-16. Personally, I like the 11 series rooms as they have a nice, big shower, even though the bed is only queensize. If you wanna be a pimp, roll with the 15 series rooms - MUCH bigger rooms/bathrooms/beds.
E
I have twice now reserved rooms in the new wing. The problem is that the first time, I had to argue on arrival because they were going to try to put me in the old wing alway. This trip, I could only get them to agree that they will "try" to get me a new wing room. Even under the threat of canceling entirely, I could not get them to gaurantee a room in the new wing.
DM, Epi, how do you guys always get these nice rooms? Is it just because you have been there so many times you have seniority or something?
I just call one of the many front office staff that know me and they set it up for me. I've been there waaAAAAAaaaaay too many times to have them say "no".
Actually, yesterday afternoon, on the way to PP airport, I called DI Bangkok and they opened a room for me in the new wing that afternoon. They know I prefer the X11 series rooms when I'm staying in the standard rooms and they delivered...

Epi, Me thinks you spent wwwaaaAAAAAAAaaaay to much time in Cambo. Cant wait to hear all about it. In case anyone dont want to read the whole thread stay in the back building at Dynasty and plan as far ahead as possible unless you are living there over half your life like someone then I think they should name the back building the " Epi Wing "
Val-- between the pints of ice cream he bribes front desk girls and the hundreds of nights spent there, Epi certainly get a good room.
I, on the otherhand, make darn sure that I specifically request the new wing-- especially after I took it for granted one stay and was stuck in the old wing. That won't happen again.
Just got an email from Dynasty Front Desk saying that the rate is 1280 Baht. Is this the going rate for a standard room? What should I expect to pay for a larger room in the new wing?
SALover
By Bangkok's prices these days that is a reasonable rate. Dynasty Inn was fairly recently renovated and IMHO I think it looks quite nice.
Dynasty Grande on Soi 6 is very impressive and worth paying more for the excellent standards.
By Porker on Saturday, May 26, 2007 - 08:53 am: Edit |
Let's see, 990 baht 2 years ago when the baht was 41 to the dollar = ~24 USD per night. 1280 baht at 32 to the USD = 40 USD. Not nearly the 'bargain' it once was.
All that being said, Dynasty in the past may have been too much of a bargain. Not sure what Nana Hotel and Majestic are charging for basic rooms these days, but absolutely can't beat the location for any of those three.
BTW, Dave, Dynasty's newer wing was in no need of renovation last time I was there. I also thought the streetside rooms in the old wing were decent. If renovated, would make a quite nice room.
I guess the REAL problem is the USD in the crapper!
Asiarooms is quoting $82 USD for Majestic Grande.
ive just returned from bkk and stayed 1 night in the dynasty inn,the hotel has been recently refurbished, though my opinion was the standard rooms and bathrooms are not big enough, also this is just personal preference i guess but i hated the wooden walls,i checked out my room at 4am because i just couldnt get to sleep and checked into dynasty grande where i have stayed many times before and find it amazing value, thought i would try dynasty inn this time but for me never again,i figured the only time id be lying down with wood all around me would be in my coffin,i was wrong for the sleep in a coffin effect you can stay at dynasty inn.
maybe im being a bit harsh as there was no real other problems i.e room was clean enough, staff were frendly checking in,but quite the oppisite when checking out early at 4am,
not a bad hotel in bkk for its money just too small for me.
I agree the Dynasty Grande is far superior to its Older sister hotel and a good deal and about 55.00 USD PER NIGHT. I used to stay at the Dynasty in Pattaya on Soi 13, but recently found the Areca Lodge to be a better hotel with more amenities for the same price range. Mojo
Stayed at the Grande during my last trip to BKK and loved it. Only problem is that its a bit much of a walk. (I'm lazy, I admit it) Will try the regular Dynasty and see what happens. (Though i hate the wood paneling)
