On my last trip to SEA I went to a Vegas-style show. Granted, all the talent needed to lip sync because they didn't know any English, but it was still amazing to watch!! Many interesting outfits coupled with intricate sets. Quite the evening.

The management had no problem with people bringing in camera equipment. Many of the Chinese tourists attending that evening brought their postage stamp-sized cameras. They wondering what was up when they saw me…

I did not want to disrupt the show by using flash. I knew this would disturb the performers and get them to look away. The stage lights are VERY strong and meant to compliment the makeup and outfits so I decided to shoot with existing light.

Doing this could cause a problem. If the shutter wasn’t fast enough, the images would be blurred and useless. If the ISO was set too high, all my pics would have too much “digital noise“. My solution for this was good, fast, telephoto lenses for my camera.

I used my Canon Rebel 300D, paired with their 70-200L F2.8 IS lens. The lens alone cost me more then my first trip to the PI!! Because the CMOS sensor on this camera is smaller then 35mm film it’s like adding a 1.6 multiplier onto the lens. This made EVERYTHING look close. I also had a front row seat, putting me even closer to the stage. My biggest problem was being TOO CLOSE for many of the shots. To make sure my shutter speed stayed high I emulated ISO 400 film. This gave me shutter speeds consistently at, or above, 1/100th. Finally, the Image Stabilization feature made some of the pics that SHOULD have been blurred, do to slow shutter speed and camera shake, look GOOD.

All told, I ended up taking roughly 500 pics. I already had some pics on my media card and so ended up changing cards roughly half way through the show. I shot in large/fine mode so that I could crop if I wanted to.

The pictures I sent to Hombre today have been resized dramatically so I could send more then 2 at a time. When the camera generates pics that average 3mb/pic, this can add up quick!! I also sorted through and am only sending along about 50 pics or so. If I come across more that I think are worth posting I will.

Concarne

The women in Thailand can be showstopping and you can find GGs that are VERY HOT!!

Some Thai women have strong features and this can be alarming for some. Do not be so afraid of the women there that you end up discarding some hottie pooying just because you think she's too hot to be a woman. And yes, sobriety can prove useful to the "selection" process.

The katoeys are getting so believeable now that even some pooying cannot tell the difference...

I actually saw a Khmer version of one of these lovelies at a bar in Phnom Penh yesterday, but an awful attempt. Maybe the lighting wasn't right. We have a similar show that tours here in the UK, however that is "The Ladyboys of Bangkok Show" very entertaining and incredibly popular.
