Joo Chiat Road, Singapore

Singapore has the reputation as cleanest and safest city in Asia, but as they say - you can never trust the quiet ones. Beneath the surface of this tiny Island State is a treasure trove of opportunities for the traveller in-the-know. Most reports you may read out of Singapore focus on the infamous Geylang district and Orchard Towers complex, but for something very special, you can't miss a trip to Joo Chiat Rd - one of 4 legal red light districts in the country, and until now, the best kept secret.

Joo Chiat is a narrow, 300m long road that runs through a predominantly residential area on Singapore's East Coast. On either side of the street are numerous Karoake and dark, airconditioned beer bars. Thanks to recent softening of club rules, many of these previously quiet pubs now feature table top dancing and loads of freelancers. The pubs are packed with girls predominantly from Vietnam, although there are also many Thai, Philipina and Mainland Chinese girls too. The Vietnamese girls seem to be aged 19-24 with above average to excellent looks.

Typically, you go in, take a seat in a room that seats 40-80 customers, then order a drink. The many girls, 40 or so ladies, will 'butterfly' around and offer very intimate company while you drink. After 15 minutes or so she'll move along before returning again in half an hour for more 'socialising'. Of course you can keep the company of as many ladies as you wish, and at the end of the night, each of your companions will expect a tip of between $20SGD and $50SGD. The girls can also be short timed (most bars are located beneath a budget hotel) for $100SGD, or $200SGD to take away long time. There is no barfine. Drinks are about $7SGD each. $1USD = $1.75SGD

Note, prostitution is legal in Singapore, but foreigners working on tourist visas are not. The girls in these places are not employed by the bars, they are merely very attractive tourists who enjoy the company of as many men as possible.

the table top dancing is nothing to write home abt. but there is a cute 19yr old cute singaporean girl called Rita dancing next door to the club called bunker.

as big kev said, its mostly vietnamese girls, along with mainland chinese.the pinoy ladies u find here are mostly old.

u can negotiate for a LT for 100 dollars but u need to wait till closing time.

during weekdays most clubs open at 4pm and close arnd 1. during the weekend and eve of a public holiday they stay open till 2-4 am.

the first club on ur rite as u enter the road is called snazzy, its in the same building as hotel Astro. its has nicely dressed chinese girls but if ur planing on spending time in there, bewarned, this is the most expensive club on the street. a jug of tiger beer is 30 + GST

after u walk past a cpl of eating houses u come to a cluster of bars. u really do not need to chk out each club as most of the girls go frm one club to another lookin for " dates ".

Last night Crazier, D'Art. and I went to check out a group of pubs on Joo Chiat (about 1 or 2 km from Geylang) that is supposed to be filled with Vietnamese freelancers. I though what we found was pretty damn good.

We went to a Pub called Blue Star or Blue Something right across the street from the Blue Star pub. From the outside I saw that the coffee shops and streets where filled with sexily clad fair skinned Vietnamese girls. Inside the pub was filled with small high tables and stools, and it was pretty packed with local guys, most of whom had rather attractive women draped all over them.

I was quickly impressed with the quality of girls here. Only saw a few true stunners but lots of pretty doable girls. The way it works is that the girls will butterfly by and will press up against you, talk to you, and do anything they can to get you to start groping on them. Once you start accepting high quality attention she will stick around anywhere from three to ten minutes. She will then excuse herself and go to a different customer and will return shortly. This is a butterfly system. It is aggressive but friendly and not antagonistic. My first thought was that this would be a place Epi would like a lot.

After a girl visits with you four of five times she will hit you up for a tip. The usual tip is Sin$10. She will bitch about wanting another ten. Hold your ground and she will give up quickly and will still treat you like a sweetheart and still come by to give you some good gropes on her rounds. One more thing a girl's rounds will include one or two other pubs. So you will constantly see girls entering and exiting the pub. Also you don't buy her a drink as she drinks from your beer.

Now the butterfly system sounds bad, but really it is a great chance for you to get one or two other girls in your rotation. The music is OK and there was some OK table top dancing. But I must say it was a lot of fun getting Little MX played with and feeling up and dirty dancing with some hot Vietnamese girls.

Many of the girls are available for ST or LT. If this is what you are after you should ask that question right away. When you are ready just say let's go to the Hotel and you go to a clean Hotel 81 room for $20Sin for two hours. The ST is $100 or whatever you negotiate and is only for one hour or so. However, this looked like a regulars scene and I am sure the regulars are getting more mileage for less dollars. All of the ST info is hearsay as I didn't do the deed but Crazier and D'art both did. I did find one girl who did tickle my fancy a lot and I will probably succumb later this week.

Also, along this stretch there are some great outdoor places to eat. It was a lot of fun to sit out here and shoot the shit, also with the girls butterflying between pubs the eye candy parade was awesome.

Overall, I found the scene to be a blast but it's still a bit pricey. However, I will probably put this into the social rotation and use it a a way to fluff for the evening and when I feel rich indulge myself with some "me so horny" Full Metal Jacket fantasy.

...I forgot to mention two things. The Joo Chiat scene closes up at 1AM and evidently there girls go to some disco in Marina South after that. This warrants further investigation. Also, the pitcher of beers were Sin$26 each.
