Surprised to see that this hotel not mentioned before as it is a popular choice with many mongers from other boards. I was coming out of an afternoon romp at Touch of Class bar and decided to poke my head into this place to see what it's about as I needed a room until the next morning as I was headed out to Manila to fly to Baguio.

From the outside this place looks kind of worn and run down but don't be deceived. The base of the front of the hotel has a long, narrow koi pond with some decent sized fish and a waterfall that runs behind it.

The lobby is loaded with comfy furniture, another koi pond with indoor waterfall and three huge fish tanks with fish as big as your average Filipina. Really well preserved. The staff is totally attentive and very friendly.

The pool is fairly large and has unique high-back cement seating all the way around, slong with typical pool furniture. The place is very unique because the lower rooms are in front of the pool without obstruction. Reminds me of the older Palm Springs hotels where the pool is placed where a courtyard normally is. You have to see it to believe it. The restaurant also has a view of the pool and the food is great.

The rooms are a little older but have a few bonus'. The standard rooms are nearly the size of the rooms at Apartelle Royale and include a desk, table and small couch. Has cable tv, powerful aircon, firm bed and a bathtub(rarity in PI). Room a little worn but very clean and nice.

Here is the best part...the large standard room next to the pool is 880 pisos. Probably the best value in Angeles IMHO.

AMERICA HOTEL, DON
JUICO AVE., CLARKVIEW, ANGELES CITY

This is the same as Fields Ave. The street just changes names as you go over the border into a diferrent suburb called Friendship. It is 4 blocks from the heart of the action.

I stayed in the America in early January. The deluxe 4th floor room was 1,300 pesos (< $24). It was a nice big room, well kept, although the stairs going up are shabby. The deluxe rooms have king beds, A/C, minibar, bathtubs and a veranda with a poor mountain view. The water takes about 5 minutes to get warm. There is a nice big pool on the ground floor..but the water was to cold to swim. The restaurant is nice which is a convenince since AC doesn't have the eating convenience of Thailand.

It would be better to stay in the 3rd floor deluxe rooms that are not on the street due to street noise. All of the 4th floor rooms face the street.

The hotel does a nice safety service in that they call your room to get your permission to let the girl leave as she passes through the lobby. There are no in-room safes only boxes at reception.

It is located right next to the Touch of Class bar which opens at 10:30 AM.

One unnerving thing is when you check in they make you sign a paper alerting you that the trike drivers in the area are prone to rob you. The staff then explained that you should only take trikes that have numbers on them and are in front of the bars or the hotel, not independant ones. I never had any problems with the numbered trikes on the 50 peso ride from the bars when I didn't feel like walking.

I was told by several girls that the rooms were twice as big as the rooms at the Orchid Inn and the price is 50%. It's like a 3-star hotel in the US. I'd stay there again.

Hey guys, any updates at all on the America? Specifically, have the rooms been updated?

I stopped by an looked at the rooms last month. About 1000 pesos for standard room so wasn't worth moving from Hana where I was. Well pleased with Hana for same price. Rooms bout the same but Americana a little closer to Fields area

I read that this place was subjected to a pretty serious armed robbery a couple of months back. You can read about it in the November 2006 Harry the Horse column.

Doesn't mean that it's not a safe place as any hotel could be targeted like this one. But, as always, it means that one needs to keep their wits about them when on the prowl.

Have been staying here for the past week and a half. Have no real complaints, other than I'm up on the third floor where the room overlooks the noisy street below. Other than that, reasonably quiet for the most part, just so many older guys with young Asian girls everywhere, not that I'm complaining or anything, but I hope when I'm eighty or ninety like these guys I keep seeing, I'll still have the appeal that seems to attract these ladies...or is it the checkbook?

I intended to return to the Sunset Garden Inn upon my return from a four-day stay in Butuan, but the Sunset Garden Inn had no vacancies. Still, America Hotel is okay as far as standard hotel rooms go. Full cable flat screen TV, AC, nice balcony overlooking SM shopping mall.

I took my lil' chubby girl for a swim, dinner, and drinks the other night. Had fun but the pool was a bit cold. Also, the food was decent, but not as good as I remembered.

Bigballs, are you here? Are you staying at America Hotel right now? I'm up in room 328. Call me or in box me here.

Speaking of the food here in America Hotel, I agree, it's not that great, but it's okay.

MB, I'm always in AC. Last time I left was to Subic for day back in June. Last time I left PI was June 2008 for an overnight visa run to Malasia.

Bud,

Have I met the little chubby girl or is this a new one in your stable?

EA, you haven't met her. I think MongerX is the only one from this board to have met her.

Ah, so it seems judging by these recent posts, am I to assume then that I'm not alone then in my quest and desire for seeking out the heavier female Asian species?

Good for you. I'll be there at the end of December. I'll expect that proper introductions will be in order.

And no, MB, we are not afflicted with the same disease that you have. Bud's idea of "chubby" is about 1 kilo over ideal weight.

See you soon,

This hotel has proven to be quite a disaster over the last week or so. Let me explain: Over the last few days, (I count six, as of this posting) there has been a catastrophe regarding water shut-off throughout the entire hotel.

I don't know what the story is and quite frankly I don't care, but it seems as if the staff has been instructed to "down play" the seriousness of the lack of running water. One or two days was bad enough, but then day in and day out of repeated requests in getting the staff to do something about repairing the water pipes, or whatever it is that seems to have disrupted the luxury of staying in this hotel is becoming annoying. The excuses are: 1) The main water pipe burst and 2) they are replacing the old water tanks (or so they say) Whatever the reason, I've seen a lot of pissed-off Germans and Australians demanding answers at the front desk and also demanding better service.

As of late, the water seems only to be working on the ground floor rooms, which gives the guests on the upper floors access to take a decent shower and clean up. If it wasn't a Third World country with expected Third World living conditions, it would seem embarrassing at best to bring a female guest back to one of the rooms when the water doesn't work.

Thanks for the hotel update. Now, how about a trip update. How's the whale hunt going? Harpooned any noteworthy ones?

LOL...will get back to you on that, as I'm still looking for the Mamasans which Metalboots and El Apodo alluded me to.

Well, certainly your doing something to kill the time in AC. What else is there to do but fuck?
