Reminder:

As for all you other gents, I'm all for taking a few days off anytime and head out on the open Thai road. Perhaps we could pack pooying for the ride, perhaps eat on the road... Either way, it sounds like a great way to mix up the schedule while in pattaya.

I'll open a new topic list tomorrow under LoS and we can try to coordinate the ride/keep the topic alive.

This intent of this thread is twofold:

1)To facilitate the meeting and deployment of a contingent of Hombre bikers* in LoS.

2) Exchange information regarding the logistic of bike** renting in LoS.

* Hombre bikers is defined as anyone who is so inclined to do an extended group ride in LoS/Pattaya in 2005.

** The classificaiton of "bike" for purposes of this discussion is any two wheeled motor vehicle that can ) fit your ass on it 2) keep up with highway traffic and 3) be comfortable/safe enough to tour on.

Sounds good DM - I guess our 1st thing would be for one of us to locate a Harley rental location!
Anyone in Pattay could check it out?
As i said i did see a place in the Hard Rock ... and on the way to Jomtien called (V2 i think)

At 250lb you could not get me to even look at a motorbike ...i need a Harley or Cruiser
I did here of Jesters & Renegades Motercycle Club doing charity rides: info # (7)036-2897

It didn't take a lot of web searching to find this: http://www.customharleyrental.com/. Although their rates seem pretty outrageous for Thailand.

Also found this: http://www.a2zpattaya.com/index.htm?main=m0616.htm

I found this little snippet interesting "No motorcycle rental will include insurance, despite claims by the operator, as the insurance companies simply will not insure a motorcycle in Thailand. ... If the motorbike is stolen you are responsible for replacement value...".

3,000 baht per week does not sound too outrageous although the Harleys in question are certainly " mature". One would wonder about reliability on a long distance run. The thought of a LBFM on the back of my Harley as we tour the countryside in a pack is very intriguing. I'm up for this in a big way if we can get it off the ground.

Might better look again KM. I'm pretty sure they mean it's 3000 baht/day, if you rent for a "week" (4+ days). Note that their rates "go down" as the time period increases.

Ya, that's pretty steep price. It's nearly the same price as going down to my local HD dealer and renting.

I'll figure out some places to rent when I arrive in LoS and report back.

Nasty: I sold my harley (dyna glide sport) a few years back when I purchased a new home. I've always loved both sportbikes and harleys, but I even shocked myself when I picked up a new hayabusa last year.

I've made some minor performance and sport touring mods to it and it is actually one quite comfy. I regularly do 500+ mile days on it. Of course, I'm still a bit smitten with the 185 or so HP my baby pumps out... You may get by comfortably by renting a sport tourer as well, which may be easier to find.

PS. I was thinking of adding a new Dyna Sport back in stable of bikes, but these darn SEA trips keep burning a hole in my pocket :-)

Although all bike are welcome to join us, let's strive for keeping 100% hog underneath us. I think the idea of having a bunch of us rumbling through LoS on various hogs paints quite a compelling picture!

Khun mor... thats 3000 baht a day if you rent 4+ days.. a bit high for a 92 fatboy
Last 2 trips i rented this Honda Shadow for 500 baht a day.. rides good but no big vibration for the LBFM on the back!

(I was thinking of adding a new Dyna Sport back in stable of bikes, but these darn SEA trips keep burning a hole in my pocket )

Funny you would say that... just got a call tonight from my travel buddy...crying that everyone in town has a harley but him & me! Told him none of the others been to Thailand 5 times in 14 months .. At $4000 USD per trip min :-( (eva deluxe) we could have both got new bikes.. then i thought long and hard .....
I'd rather ride them LBFM and rent my Harley's a few weekends a year!!!

Wishful thinking I guess.

Yeah -- a bit on the expensive side , but not likely to get much lower rates for a Harley. I would be surprised if anyone finds anything better.

Nasty

...smart man. When having to make any choice involving X vs LBFM, stick with the LBFM and you'll be happy.

well one thing we need to agree one is a time of year to hold the rumble.

I vote for either early-mid march or late oct/early november. Nothnig special bout those dates cept airfare is usually quite reasonable during those periods and ther weather is also OK.

It goes without saying, anytime in LoS is a good time tho.

By Khun_mor on Sunday, December 12, 2004 - 08:52 pm:  Edit

My trips this year--tentative except Feb trip-- first 3 weeks February. Middle 2 weeks of June (the June in Joon tour) and the last two weeks of October, first week of November. If we can get off the ground at any of those times count me in .

BTW

I just bit the dust on my Harley Friday night for the first time in 25 years of riding.Friggin old lady cut me off and jumped on her brakes. I had to lay the bike down or rear end her - I could see myself flying over her car or thru rear window. As it is I have dislocated shoulder- 2 broken ribs and road burns galore-- hurts like a MFer !! As soon as my ride is fixed though I'm back on it.

By Phoenixguy on Sunday, December 12, 2004 - 09:31 pm:  Edit

Thank goodness no serious head trauma. Hope you heal quickly KM.

By Don Marco on Sunday, December 12, 2004 - 09:43 pm:  Edit

I'm glad your ok !!! I've laid down a bike twice going around 40MPH over the last 20 years and lets just say I don't leave home without full protection except the occasion blue jeans. There is no IF only WHEN...

You should be healed and my slush recharged by June... Anyone else want to chime in- June cool?

They should load you up on painkillers between the ribs and shoulder no? Ribs are no fun at all...

By Khun_mor on Sunday, December 12, 2004 - 09:49 pm:  Edit

Thanks for the sympathy. No pain killers unfortunately. I'm on call this weekend and couldn't get anyone to cover me. Can't get all Viked up and go make rounds. The ribs only hurt when I breathe or move. Sneezing is a BITCH !! LOL

By Don Marco on Sunday, December 12, 2004 - 10:08 pm:  Edit

BTW- how's the bike??

By Nastyworld on Sunday, December 12, 2004 - 11:26 pm:  Edit

Hope your OK KM...your luck
my dates look like:
Feb 8th - 16
March 21 - 29 tour with 3 newbies
Oct the whole month

i never been to LoS in June, As i wanted to see about buying a bar.Is the weather OK?
I would love to go there when we have all the Girls/hotels/Roads to our self's its low season!?
I could sneak away on June 10th for 2 weeks just would need to bring my 14 year old son (would trip him out) but then i guess for me i would see the unseen Thailand, if i had my LiL Partner in Crime, I will know around New year...
I heard Air fare is also high?! how much are air tickets? are you sure its no storms/rain/heat...as i said i only visited feb, march, sept,Oct so March count me in! June in JOON .. 80% I'm there!!
