Hi Bahtman, please let me know when you will be coming to BKK because I will schedule some time for your visit. Closer to the date I will email my mobile phone number so we can meet up. I have met six CH Members in one week and they are all cool guys. There are a lot of CH guys around. Are you to going to PI and then LOS?
By Bahtman on Wednesday, March 23, 2005 - 09:28 pm: Edit |
Thanks Dave the Rave, Ill email you my cell phone and schedule. Ill be in LOS first for about 4 days to get over the jet lag and then to Batam next for a week and then straight to PI for a week and then back to LOS for 2 more weeks. The CH members are the best. Every one has there own style but they all know how to get it done all over the world.

BM, it was great hanging with you in AC last week. I certainly can't compete pic-wise comparing our common models, but the above pic was a sample of my future offerings from this past trip.
Any chance you can make it again to either the PI or Indonesia in July? I hope so.

DM
Bahtman uses the Canon 20D with a 16-35 2.8L lens. The information is right in the metadata of every picture he's posted. I also use the same camera. We only differ on lenses used.
Patience is sometimes required with Bahtman because he's not a CH junkie like you and me signing in 20 times a day from work.

Its funny the first thing I do when I get the girls back to the room is nothing, just relax on the bed and watch TV and drink and talk. When the moments right Ill start playing with the girl and the camera. Jokerman I met DTR on my last night after hearing the news from Epi. Im glad he landed on his feet. Humnnnn... Very nice ideed. Although not a Nikon, exposure and skin tones are superb I'm still deliberating winging my n90 for a d70. Something no sane man would do, but then again I just paid 4 bucks for a 24 exposure roll to be developed + I gota keep the pics on the clean side of the fence unless I want to be reported.

I don't go by sales-- look at SLR sales for instance. Mass market doesn't = technology and quality. Nothing against Canon as they make some kick ass gear, but I've yet to see a detailed review that gives a clear nod to Canon DSLR vs Nikon's linup.
Also, people buy Nikon primary cuz of the lenses-- they are the clear leader in the lens dept. Now I ain't got a suitcase of f2.8's sitting around, put I do have a very nice 60Dmm marco, 8-200D, and a 28-105D-- all nikkor of course.

Jokerman, I am now using Adobe Photoshop CS2 to edit and add text to my photos. Its the latest version that just came out and it lets you preview all the fonts you've collected. I especially like that so I can choose the one that seems to fit the pic or my mood. Don Marco, I started out with a Nikon and they are some of the best pics I ever took. I think when you get ready to buy the expensive lenses then you gotta go one direction or the other. I don't know technically which one captures the best image. I will say that Digital has replaced film except in large commercial work for a lot of pros and it'll only take a couple more generations of evolution until its a digital world. Heres another AC dream

DM, I think all that time you've spent in the air has addled your brain. Vist DPreview.com for those clear reviews you claim you haven't seen. And if you think Nikon's glass is so superior, start hanging out on the boards on that site and see how many people are switching over to Canon from Nikon. There is also a reason why some 80% of the pro photographers you see at the major news/sporting events are using Canon. And it ain't because Nikon has better glass...
By Don Marco on Thursday, May 19, 2005 - 04:48 am: Edit |
Master saki,
The D70 easily beat out the 10D and although the 20D is a bit better in terms of res and performance it is also 50% more CASH-- not quite apples to apples... So, my point stands. As for glass, Canon's consum/prosumer line is childs play vs. Nikon--pass the lemonaide.

Tsk, tsk. It is sad to see such an un-informed posting, Mr. Marco. In your previous post, you were speaking in generalities, not in consumer class to consumer class comparisons. Yes, the D70 is the equivalent of a Canon Rebel. Nikon has no camera in it's lineup to match the 20D, a far superior camera.
And you simply said Nikon was the clear leader in the lense department, but now you're focusing on "consum/prosumer" lines. Even with your child's play point disputable, I find it quite interesting that you neglected to mention Canon's L series glass. There is no match.
By Laguy on Thursday, May 19, 2005 - 08:13 pm: Edit |
Bringing this discussion down a level (if that is possible), sometimes I need a pocket sized camera (with auto-assist beam) for some of my more intimate moments. My 20D won't fit in my pocket, nor in the palm of my hand, and therefore must be relegated to "serious" photography, e.g., photographs of naked ladies when I am not otherwise "busy." As my Canon S500 (elph) has gone semi-kaput (why is all my Canon consumer equipment doing this? portable printers, cameras, fax machines, etc.) I am considering the Canon SD500 (although am not sure I want to reward Canon for the limited durability of their products) and the Fujifilm F10. Any experiences with either of these, side-by-side comparisons, or other useful information (including recommended alternatives)? Thanks in advance for any comments, and here's hoping my innocent inquiry does not start another vicious flame war :-).

Saki--
I've a dry sense of humor... I'll be more explicit.
The first point I made was a serious one. I disagree with your point that the rebel is equiv to the D70 and that the 20D is far sup. My point was the D70 is much better than the rebel, and the 20D may be a BIT better body, but hardly worth the 50% pricetag.
The second point, which I though would be apparent to photographers, is that esch brand has devoted following and it's been argued back and forth for for many moons. There is no clear winner and is very "lense" specific. Each side sticks to their guns-- and why not, there is no reason to flip.
Here is a very well respected photographer that I met some time ago when I went to a Galen Rowell workshop in 1995 (unfort. died in 2002). His specialty is color and contrast if that matters.

I've only own two Sony's, both of which were built like a tank. The new Sony line-up is not quite as compact as Canons, but you may want to give 'em a look if durability is a concern.
I do like the SD300 quite a bit though in terms of quality and features. I personally wouldn't toss down the cash for the SD500, which is a snapshop camera.
By Don Marco on Friday, May 20, 2005 - 05:12 pm: Edit |

Since there will be no may/june trip for moi, I rewarded my hard work of late today with the SD400. $399 and free 256MB card.

Why do you call the SD500 just a snapshot camera then go out and buy the lesser version of the same camera ? Perhaps I misunderstood your meaning by snapshot cam.
I bought the SD500 - only paid $460 and I love it. Great quality pics.
The video quatity is much better than the SD300 was. I'll have to try to get some videos in the AC bars.

KM-- let me clarify. The snapshot comment wasn't a slap, but a comment about the lack of control over photographic elements (lenses, aperature, shutterspeed, DOF, etc)... The SD500 from everything I have read is EXCELLENT, in fact may warrant the extra 100 bucks over the SD400. Either way, 400-500 bucks is a LOT for a snapshot camera and one that we'll be looking at 99% of the pics on a computer screen.
My original thinking was get a SD200/300 for snapshots and sink the rest of the cash into DSLR for those more artsy/printable works of DM art.
I've really gotten used to smaller form factors tho and am reconsidering for now. As for the SD400, it is a try and buy== I've nothing to lose and wanted to take some pics this weekend I'll more than likely settle on an SD300 or possibly an SD500 myself.

Lemme recify the topic cat...
By Laguy on Saturday, May 21, 2005 - 11:23 am: Edit |
Well, I decided to order the SD500 over the Fujifilm F10. The main reason is I have some secure digital cards already stashed and none of the crazy assed cards used by the Fujifilm camera; also, the learning curve (which, however, is not that steep with these sorts of cameras) will be a bit less with the Canon, since I have used Canon Elphs since the time of the non-digital (film, yes such a thing was mainstream once) Elph. However, it looks like other than these considerations, the Fujifilm F10 probably is a better value, and the choice between the two was a close call.
Since I ordered it from Amazon (for less than $450, shipping included), where it is presently out of stock, I still may change my mind, particularly if the delay is more than a week. Once I get back to the States, if the camera is there fine; if not, I will at that time re-debate the SD500 versus F10 choice.
By Don Marco on Saturday, May 21, 2005 - 12:03 pm: Edit |
I think the SD is a great choice and the price of under 450 is great!

Portrait photography is my favorite and I do it with many girls I meet. Its different with every girl because its about finding what makes them unique and capturing it. My approach to portrait photography is more instinctive. For me its about spending enough time with the girl that she starts being herself. Taking time to have fun with her not trying to control or direct her, but recognizing those special moments as they come along.

Spent time with Porker and Bahtman in Angeles last April and had a BLAST with those two troublemakers. Yeah, that town gets me down after three or four days, but what a GLORIOUS three of four days those first ones can be.
Here's a few pics from that trip. This was the first time I used umbrellas and there was a few problems initially. My satin (NOT Satan) umbrella bled out a bit too much light to the room which returned a warmer glow then I wanted. Still, a few were salvageable.

The straight from the province girls sometimes have butt zits and odd scars but they soon learn how to take care of themselves but the great face and body is still there. Epi,
Thanks. Some of my pics still turned out WAAAAAAY too dark. I played around A LOT and many came out dark, but some turned out really well. I see what you meant about being more critical of photos now. These were some of the (IMHO) better ones. There is one photo set with an Indo lady (who was a lousy lay) that turned out REALLY well though. I had a lot of fun and think I learned a lot. Thanks again for all your help.
Merlin,
When Epi moves up to a 1D or 5D and sells me his 20D, you can have my Rebel!
By Don Marco on Thursday, December 01, 2005 - 07:27 pm: Edit |
Xen-- if your shooting in raw and depending on the lighting, DSLR's underpose pics to preserve highlights as you can easily recover shadow detail.
Also you may want to spot meter if matrix metering (or whatever canon calls it) is getting fooled by backlighting.
Once the 5d comes down a bit, you should see great clearance/rebates on the 20d. Same with the D200 and effect on the D70s. These are definetly fun days to be into photography. Nikon and Canon raise the bar substancially every year!
Welcome to the insanity ;)

Good shots, I recognize one of the girls and I think the last girl is a mamasan.
By Xenono on Saturday, December 03, 2005 - 08:41 am: Edit |
DM,
Not shooting in raw, just high resolution jpeg. I don't think my camera fully supports the flash I bought, but I could be wrong. I also changed up the position of the flash a lot. And when I shot down at the target versus straight I often forgot to re-position it. The next round on the next trip should be a lot better though.
Blazers,
The girl in photo two was the one from Welcome Inn we both did and that I posted a pic of earlier. She has an ultra tight body, but I was not use to seeing her with her hair down and it threw me off. Funny story, I walked into Welcome Inn on this last trip, spot her, want to do her and she is mensing. She and the mamasan are both like come back on Saturday. Then the mamasan was like, you have taken her before. And I was like, no I haven't. Never seen her before in my life. It wasn't until I went back Saturday and was having a drink with her. She asked where I was staying, I said Orange Lion, and she was like yeah, that was where you took me before. LOL! Then I finally realized it was the chick I posted in your thread. I am so bad when it comes to recognizing ladies I have already done. I've done ladies in TJ twice not knowing I had already done them as well. She has one of the tightest bodies I’ve ever felt though. Her waist and butt are just super firm. She is a great time.
The last lady was a dancer. I pulled her off the stage. But if you are saying she looks older, I agree. She claims 23 though.

Thanks Pinza. These were taken with a Nikon D50 and an SB600 flash. Just being able to aim the flash UP instead of directly at the subject makes a huge difference in how the pics come out.
