VIA VAI is a superb traditional Italian resturant which is located on Sukhumvit, Soi 8. Opposite the 7 ELEVEN shop is a little corner of Italy for sure. It's ran by two great Italiano amegos, Riccardo (a chef from Napole) and Georgio (F&B specialist from Roma). Beautifully furbished this classic Italian has excellent pizzas and pasta. The menu selection for Italian is the best I have ever seen. Absolutely the best Italian pizza and pasta I have ever tasted in Thailand, it will have you singing, "Santa Maria!"

A great selection of wines to be found here. House red or white (1 litre bottle) is 850 baht. The other wines range between 1,000 to 8,000 baht. Wine is an expensive luxury item in LOS.

Three CH guys who can confirm this is a great Italian resturant are Val, Mano and Jokerman. Very popular with Stickman who gave it an excellent resturant review.

Ok-- since I can't locate and get myself back to Big Mamma's, I'll have to give this place a go.

This is hand made/tossed dough-- correct?

Hi Don Marco, yes Val was impressed because they use fresh pasta. Val was pleasantly surprised how good the pizza and pasta was. Very reasonably priced too - Margherita Pizza 180 baht and a great Calzone Pizza at 240 baht. Minestrone Soup 160 baht (but it's authentic). Pasta dishes vary from 200-250 baht which is very reasonable for authentic Italian food. Also they have lovely Cappuccino Coffee at 80 baht.

This is an outstanding recommendation. I've eaten at Via Vai's four times, and was impressed on each occasion. They serve real Italian food, made by real Italians. I've probably been to at least 8 different Italian eateries in Bangkok, and this one is right at the top.

The main branch of Pomodoro's, located next to Tony Roma's, has a better selection of meat dishes. But for fresh pasta and actual brick-oven pizzas, I don't think Via Vai's can be beat. On top of which, it's a fair bit cheaper than Pomodoro's. Just to give you an idea of how good this place is, I took a relative there who used to be married to a Sicilian, and she thought it was great. It's rare to get this kind of authentic foreign cuisine in Thailand...particularly at these rates.

Hi Manos, Georgio and Riccardo are great guys, you really get the Italian hospitality here. Regarding wine a friend did crack open a bottle of red wine one night but I don't know much about wine here. Did you have the odd bottle or two? The house wine is 850 baht a bottle and then it's 1,000 baht upwards. Like you I think the prices are excellent value-for-money. Considering the staggering cost of wine in LOS these guys are giving you a good deal. I find that because of using all fresh incredients the flavour really jumps out at you. Via Vai is obviously a P&P "pizza & pasta" specialists. Fresh pasta choices include penne, fusilli, farfalle, fettuccine, casarecce, and even potato gnocchi. The house sauce Via Vai is absolutely delicious, I'm going back for more!

As a major fan and self proclaimed expert on Authentic Italian cuisine, I give Via Vai, the official seal of approval. It is Milanese for those who are followers of the regional distinction.

The dough of the Calzone was particularly impressive as it was very light and fluffy, the way it should be, and the ingredients were of uncommon quality for a place outside of Italy.

The Minestrone soup was particularly good.

1-10 scale.

Ambience: 6.5
Service: 8.5
Food Quality: 9.0
Wine selection: 6.5
Price: 6.0 (Above average for BKK)

It is however, one of the most pleasant little places I found in Thailand. The service was excellent and the food was exceptional. Great Place.

Dave the Rave & Valterreekian,

I agree Via Vai is a great place to eat. My Grand mother is from Southern Italy and man when I was growing up the food was great. Every Thursday and
Sunday our whole family would meet for dinner @ my Grand parents house and it was a feast. Ricardo & Georgio have for sure done what they can to produce authentic Italine cusine in Thailand and from what I am told this is no easy task. The wine list is also extremely good and priced vey reasonable for Thailand. All of this served to you with a high degree of service. I must say the next time in Bangkok Via Vai will be my dining destination more than once.

Hi Guys, I gave Via Vai there ultimate test recently when I took a huge Italian guy there. He really enjoyed the whole experience, spent a fortune and I have gained a friend for life! So if a street smart Italian is impressed then they have earned the seal of approval from Italy. My friend Victorio highly recommends the Calzone pizza and Georgio certainly knows his wines.
