Planning My Cherry Trip to PI

So i've got my tickets and I'll be there from May 9th. I'm thinking of staying in AC for the week until I find a nice Honeyko to take with me to another island, maybe boracay or bohol. Any last minute words of advice or warnings? I've been reading most of the board, just wondering if anyone's got something specific about my situation.

Also, I'm looking at this place on perimeter road that's 29 dollars a night for what seems like a pretty nice room. Is that a little steep or about right for this time of year? I was a little suspicious when the guy I emailed offered me the delux room at standard price, so maybe what they're advertising is already inflated.

Here's the url

http://www.aseplace.com/home.htm

Also, what's currently the best way to get there from Manilla at around midnight on a weekday?

Looking at the map it's not really on perimeter road but even out past Clark airbase. That's a hell of a trike or jeepney ride just to get to any of the action. No way I would ever stay there.

Being unique is not an advantageous hotel picking strategy.

Plenty has been written about where to stay in AC-- read it.

By Warmole93 on Tuesday, May 03, 2005 - 12:02 am:  Edit

how much should a jeepney or trike ride cost from there to the main action?

I read about all the hotels on here, but none of the seemed to have very nice rooms in comparison or didn't have a pool.

By Mongerx on Tuesday, May 03, 2005 - 01:21 am:  Edit

I would be leery of this place. This is not Perimeter road, it looks like it almost back at the expressway. My guess it is a five minute trike ride only in the middle of the night with no traffic. Taking trike rides in heavy AC traffic, with horrible exhaust fumes and the current blistering heat - Not Good. I am no expert on how much a trike is gonna cost from out there. Min. 50 but I wouldn't be surprised if it was 70. Plus do you really want to be taking trikes through a far off part of town not in the main tourist drag late at night? I also wouldn't be surprised if your Bar Fines were a little leary of going to some house turned into a hotel they have never heard of. Where the hell are you gonna eat out there? You gonna want to eat the local filipinno food in the shack cafes?

Also, right now the heat is brutal and there have been prolonged brown outs in the afternoon. Is this "Bed and Breakfast" gonna have a back-up generator (and one that is stong enough) to keep the aircon going during a brown out?

Plus other than the VIP room, the rooms look tiny and dated in their design. There certainly is a shortage of pictures to give me a good idea. Hell look at those tiny TV's mounted right at the ceilings. Who is gonna enjoy watching that?

It's your first trip, why don't you want to be located right near the action where it will be easy to get your bearings and all the rides of disneyland are outside your front door? If a pool is that important to you with a good room, try Orchid Inn in the middle of the Fields Ave. Action. If you want to be out in the Perimeter Road area (which will be quiet and private) and want a good room with a pool in the same price range check out Phoenix Hotel, Oasis Hotel, and Clarkton. You will still be taking trikes to Fields but it is a straight shot, there are still bars and Go Gos around, girls will all know and love to go back to these hotels, there will be tourist class restaurants, and you will not feel isolated at these. Trikes will always be 50 pesos out here, plus you can catch a Jeepney for 5.5 pesos as well. If you don't want to be near any nightlife places then why not consider Holiday Inn on the base, or Woodland Parks resort?

Thanx guys, I think I'll just pack light and go in sans reservation and see what's available on fields. There should be plenty of vacancies at this time of year, right? Just me, a backpack full of condoms, and a digital camera.

By Mongerx on Tuesday, May 03, 2005 - 06:21 am:  Edit

Actually, if you want to stay on Fields in a a decent hotel, I wouldn't just show up without a reservation These hotels seldom have vacancies and are operating at full occupancy even in the off season. Without a reservation you are likely to end up at the Blue Nile hotel at $60US a night.

Here's an email response I got from that guy, does it sound good to you. I think it's just on the opposite side of field from perimeter rd.

quote:

I will try and answer your questions, one at a time, ok;

1. Do you have a backup generator in case of brown outs?
A: Yes we have a large back-up Generator ( but haven't had
to use it much, since we are not too far from the main power
into Angeles City (1 block).

2. What are the inner dimensions of the safe?
A: It's a small fireproof safe, with dimensions of€ 5 x 8 x 12.
This type of safe is normally used for money, document, jewelry, etc.
But not big enough to hold a lap-top PC. We also have a larger safe
in our office than could hold a laptop.

3. How far are you from the main action on Field avenue?
A: We are 5 mins away by motor-trike or car.
I've walked the distance in 12 mins before, and jogged it in 6 mins
Note: We provide rides too Fields Ave area, up til about 9pm
at night. Most men are out and about by then. That means,
all you have to do is find your way back.

4. Why is the TV mounted above the door ?
A: Because, that is a door to the comfort room. Not the entry
door to€ the room, and it faces the bed better in that location, and
is out of the way better.

5. How much is a typical jeepney and trike ride to the main entertainment area?
A: 12 pesos to Fields Ave., and the beginning of the night club district.

6. Is there a lot of traffic?
A: I guess that depends on the time of day, There is traffic, but this is
Angeles City. There's traffic everywhere. I'd say because of our location,
we are able to avoid the real bad traffic on Mac Arthur Hi way.
So, not so bad where we are.

7. Are you located in a safe part of town ?
A: Many foreigners live in this area, because the crime rate is very low,
or in our case non-existent. At least so far anyway, in 5 straight yrs.
Yes, I consider ASEP very safe.

8.€ Are there any nearby clubs that are in short walking distance?
A: There are a couple of clubs in walking distance, but not the ones you
probably mean. That's why we consider this a sort of hide-away.
The girls do love it here, and are always very impressed.
I don't know of anyone that has stayed here that wasn't completely
happy about their choice. But maybe it's not for everyone ?
I suppose that is up to the individual, right.

Why not try it for a night, and your not happy, then we'll help you
find another. I have offered this alternative to many, but so far....
I've never had to do that even once. That must mean something ?

Hope I did OK, as I tried my best to give you the derails you asked for.
If you have any further questions, Pls don't hesitate to ask !

Maybe you should know this....
We started ASEP 5 yrs ago as a Luxury corporate re-treat.
That means at times we would have 6 or 7 men staying here.
All of them just loved the location, amenities, life style, etc.
Trust me, this is far and away nicer than most anything else available,
even remotely close to the price we charge. But only you could
determine if I'm right or wrong about that.

anyway, just lets us know if we can be of any further help to you.

Respectfully, J. Banning

The key answer he gave you was that the jeepney ride was 12 pisos.....if you have been to Angeles you know that's a far away hotel because jeepney rides are 5.5 pisos and a 12 piso ride means that you are actually transferring jeepneys..not fun.

Looking at their website, I'm not very impressed with anything short of their VIP room, but that one does look nice. And the guy was nice enough to spend considerable time answering all those questions.

I looked at their map, and related it to an AC map I picked up recently while there. This place appears to be roughly 1 km (over half a mile) from the east end of Fields Ave where all the bars begin. But Don Gueco Ave is just across McArthur Highway from the end of Fields, and their place does seem to be a straight shot east out Don Gueco Ave, so it shouldn't be difficult to get there *IF* you know where everything is.

In all, I would not recommend this to a first timer who has no clue where anything is. Their VIP room might be a nice change of pace if you like something a little nicer, removed from the noise and bustle. But if you want to be in the center of the action - or want to be able to walk to and from your hotel - this ain't the place.

By Warmole93 on Wednesday, May 04, 2005 - 10:31 am:  Edit

so it's probably, what, 50-70 for a trike? Half a mile doesn't sound too bad to walk, although it probably sucks in the heat.

I'm pretty good with maps and have a good sense of direction so I'm not concerned about that, but is it a pain to cross the highway on foot? Is there an under or overpass?

By Khun_mor on Wednesday, May 04, 2005 - 12:39 pm:  Edit

Highway ????? HAHAHAHAHA

Sorry couldn't resist. I think you are getting pretty much 100% negative vibes from everyone who has ever been to AC. Why are you still even considering this place- Does he have a non refundable deposit from you ??

A trike from Fields bar area to Nifty's is usually 50 pesos. You're going at least twice that far if not more. I think this dude is BSing you.
Sounds like a freaking college dorm with a common living area and seperate bedrooms. Good luck !!
If you do stay there let us all know how it was. Sure does not sound like my cup of tea though.

If you don't mind staying a 50 peso trike ride from the action, I highly recommend the Oasis. Clean, awesome pool, good food, friendly staff and the girls LOVE it.
